#cls crashes client

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

After some time in the game "#cls"-command makes my client crash.

For some reason i does not crash when it's just started.

Same problem in past version.

(win32)

has been reported before. have attempted to fix it. didn't work. more attempts will happen later. for now the answer is "don't do that then"

For now, don't #cls when in console mode (F1), and don't go to console while it's still empty.

(That works for me without crashing; official client @ Win2k.)

So from that I assume you can make #cls work by doing it from the graphics window (non-console) and then doing anything (like a #time) to generate some text?

Yes, for me #cls works without crashing in game mode (non-console mode), but crashes when I bring up the console while it's still empty.

When I wait for someone saying something on a channel, or "generate" some text like you said (I "eye" myself for that ;)) I can safely bring up the console.

It doesn't have to do with being in console mode or not, directly. There just has to be a line of chat before you go to console mode. So if you are in regular mode, #cls, and get some line of chat, then you can go to console.

eeenteresting. based on that, I was trying to fix the wrong part.

so now I think I've found (and fixed) the problem (in CVS shortly if nothing else crops up)... unfortunately, I can't reproduce it myself.

I only get the crash with ent's clients, not my own. so I can't test to see if it really is fixed

ed: done. is there anybody out there who gets the #cls-crash bug with their own builds who can test the latest CVS?

I can do #cls whenever I feel with no ill effects - and do regularly when I hit the 5k line bug.

I can #cls in console, on the map window, game window (all verified while I was typing this post out).

could you before the change?

all of my builds were immune to the #cls crash bug. ent's were not.

Me too, I don't think I have ever had a problem with #cls

Just for clarification:

The circumstances are:

 - the official release of the client (v1.3.3) @ Win2k

 - chat history has reached the 5k limit (symptoms: old chat lines flashing in game mode; session's first lines disappear)

Under these circumstances, my client always crashes when either:

#cls'ing in console mode, or

#cls'ing in game mode and going back to console when it's still empty.

I'm pretty sure ttlanhil and LabRat didn't need this clarification.

But mauriciom, with "Since the update" do you mean the 1.3.3 official release? Or is that "since the update of the cvs" (as ttlanhil and LabRat are talking about cvs), or do you have a custom client?

And Chosen, are you aware of the condition that the chat history must've reached the 5k limit?
