Guest shackleton

i am pretty non-computer literate, and although i did pretty much what was said, it doesnt seem to work.....

i got this,,,,,,

shackleton@shackleton:~$ chmod +x el.x86.linux.bin

chmod: cannot access `el.x86.linux.bin': No such file or directory

shackleton@shackleton:~$

could anybody give me a foolproof (literally foolproof) instructions on how to play.....

fiddling around i found that el-132.x86.linux.static seemed to work, but closed with no warning when i tried to make a character.

not all people who run linux are computer geniuses..... some of us are just cheapskates

That looks like that you are in your $HOME directory and not in the directory where you installed EternalLands.

So, go there with "cd directoryname-where-el-is-installed" and try it again. Do a

"ls -l el.x86.linux.bin"

to find out if youre in the right place. Then try "el.x86.linux.bin" again. if that doesnt work, type "./el.x86.linux.bin", but that depends on your Linux configuration.

Post the content of the error_log.txt here. It is located in $HOME./elc, so type

"cd $HOME/.elc" to go there.

there is no el.x86.linux.bin, so i tried el-132.x86.linux.bin

now i get

shackleton@shackleton:~$ /home/shackleton/EL/el-132.x86.linux.bin

/home/shackleton/EL/el-132.x86.linux.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL_net-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

oh...and my error log (minus about a million : "./tiles/tile1.bmp"Error: Problems loading texture: ./tiles/tile1.bmp) says

[17:28:21] Error: Can't open file "el.ini"

[17:28:21] Failure reading el.ini

Weird....

Yes, the game is looking for the files in the wrong place.

There should be a file, in home/your_account/.elc/el.ini

in there, modify the data directory to point where the game is located.

To clarify, it's the #data_dir configuration; ensure that's pointing to the base (e.g. /home/yourname/eternallands/) of the EL installation directory.

if ya dont feel like getting all the libs for hours and finding the correct versions, try executing the el-132.x86.linux.static apparently its all built into it and i can say that it runs fine without having to compile a thing hehe
