sirdan Report post Posted July 14, 2006 ok so supposably if you put salt on your skin and put a ice cube on it and hold it there for a while you get this wierd burn witch is supposably frostbite or something... the video of it in action can anyone exsplain how this works and what exactly its doing? ttlanhil Report post Posted July 14, 2006 well... adding salt to water(bear with me) changes some chemical properties... such as the temperature the water freezes and boils at (which is why you may add a pinch of salt to a pot of water when cooking). in the case of ice, ice melts on contact with your skin, at least at the edge, giving the layer of water to make it slippery... the salt, however, would make the ice melt sooner, so you have colder water (since it melts at a lower temperature), and more of it, in contact with your skin. water is a better conductor of temperature than ice is, so the salt means you'll lose heat to the ice faster than usual Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
