specific Defensive shields

Recommended Posts

I am thinking about special shields that are made for a specific sword..

example:

Defensive Shield of Titanium Serpent Sword Of Fire

When worn it halves the damage that TSSOF does.

Warning:The shield is weak against all other swords and if used against a different sword then TSSOF it will make twice as damage against you.(edit:to make it clear if when ur wearing this and someone uses a titanium serpent sword of thermal the thermal sword will do x2 damage to you/and another thing. This shield will never break as long as its used against the sword its made for..)

Materials Needed:

1 modable titanium serpent sword

10 fire essence

5 enriched fire essence

2 titanium shields

-------------------------------

Required nexuses:

Artificial:8

Magic:8

------------------------------

tools required:

hammer

-----------------------------

Knowledge Required:

Defensive shield of titanium serpent sword of fire

------------------------------

Skills required:

manufacture:60

-----------------------------

Food Subtracted:40

-----------------------------

15 emu

----------------------------

Hows that?

EDIT:and another thing is that this shield does these effects to the opponents sword that he uses not the one you wear :)

Let me count: modable serpent (umm, 80k?), 10 EFE (25k), 2 titanium shields (66k), in total (170k+).

So, shield for 170kgc+ with single protection against one sword and drawbacks against other?

....how the **** do you come to the conclusion that a modable serpent sword is only worth 80k.. 1-2 persons needed cash and they sold it for that much so you go ahead and assume its only worth 80k? or did i miss something huge on the forums?

What are you trying to say? it's more expensive? Then the price for this shield is even more wasted :P And don't be so aggresive, he was just estimating its price ;)

Sure, look at that question mark behind price.

However it's not the point, the ingreds are clearly exaggerated even without that modable sword IMO.

It's a high price to pay for a shield that only has one use only, and not to say the PPs ppl have to put in nexies.

It would be better if it could resist all of the magic swords and lower the blows or something from em not only 1 specific sword.

Why inventing something overpowered with protection against everything? It would unbalance combat system IMO. If you wish something powerful, it should have have some weak spots.

Stone>scissors>paper system as once trollson said is for a reason.

Once again, I find my reply deviating from the original subject; but thats the beauty of forum threads, discussion of an original idea, from which new ideas emerge...

Too specific?

One thing that puts me off this idea is that it is just too specific; shields which protect only against a specific weapon? Its only value is in PvP, and while their "added value" is only effective against a specific weapon, the weapon's added value is (nearly) always effective.

...of course, defense is always harder to implement than offense.

Elemental Shields anyone?

Before going so specialised, consider slightly more general take:

Shields of protection against different
"elemental"
damage
types;
magic, fire, thermal, cold, and radiation
.

These offering slightly better properties than their regular counterparts, but with a non-trivial bonus against the pecific elemental damage.

They may even have a penality against the opposite element if one exists (at the moment this would just be fire vs. cold), in exchange for greater protection.

These would be effective against any weapon which inflicts additional damage of the matching type, as well as against any monster or natural force which does similar.

Of course, we are not limited to shields; other armours could be enhanced (any with a modable form).

Why not have all manufactured items be either embeddable or have rare modifiable forms? Modable leather pants anyone? Some embeddable ingredients could then be rare finds and monster drops. I am being serious, though it sounds like the server design makes adding new items a lot of work...

Also, can anyone think of other types of damage (besides physical)? Where would asphyxiation fit, if we do underwater sections in maps? It isn't affected by normal armour.

Monsters with elemental forces

Why do we not have more monsters which deliver elemental damage? Probably because there isn't much corresponding protection available to the characters, so it would be rather unfair.

Similarly, they would have more protection against elemental forces. So, no point going in against a Fire Giant with your flaming sword; he'll just love it!

Or, and this gets rather interesting; monsters effectively immune to physicial damage (eg., 99 armour points). Why should a non-corporeal ghost care that you are swinging a metal stick through it? Unless you are doing magic damage it aint going to feel a thing (in so much as the dead feel...). How dangerous does that creature suddenly become?

And spells to...

Just as a little footnote; more spells with different forms of protection and offense would then become more important; to those without big glowy weapons, and to the second ranks in a battle. We have a couple already, but I am sure more will come...

OH come on it will need modable weapons if its against a magical sword..but for normal weapons itll be like this.

Defensive Shield of Titanium Serpent Sword

When worn it halves the damage that TSS does.

Warning:The shield is weak against all other swords and if used against a different sword then TSS it will make twice as damage against you.

Materials Needed:

1 titanium serpent sword

10 fire essence

1 enriched fire essence

1 titanium shield

-------------------------------

Required nexuses:

Artificial:6

Magic:6

------------------------------

tools required:

hammer

-----------------------------

Knowledge Required:

Defensive shield of titanium serpent sword

------------------------------

Skills required:

manufacture:45

-----------------------------

Food Subtracted:30

-----------------------------

15 emu

----------------------------

and another thing if the weapon its used against is made of titanium itll need a titanium shield

if its steel itll need steel shield

if its iron itll need iron shield...

Although this specific shield idea is not bad in general at all, I'd rather see spell or amulet way of protection (which I think it's beign prepared as we speak).

i think i read somewhere that there wont ever be elementual wepons....

What are all those swords of fire, ice, then?

Although when I used the term "elemental" I was refering more to elemental forces than the classical elements; to include magic and radiation, hence the quotes. The two concepts are closely related though.
