What is your political compass score?

Recommended Posts

And yes, it's funny that most of the people seem to 'gravitate' around me. I guess my political views are somewhat reflected in the game?
or maybe it's the game in general?

socialism (communism is an idealised version that's approximated but never reached, from what I've read) works better in smaller communities. think about how well it works (barring personallity conflicts, etc, which isn't the point) in a marriage. very small, and there's an interest in helping the other person. scale it up to the family, and there's still usually a lot of willingness to help other people instead of compete in large family systems and small towns. move it up to big cities and countries, and people are less and less likely to work for the common good instead of their own (though there are, of course, exceptions in all stages)

EL is still, generally, a small community. most of the regulars at least know the name of most of the others, and will chat with those they meet. the very idea of playing a multiplayer game instead of a single player one is the interaction, and competition isn't usually the bigest factor in that

as for individual freedom vs state control... most people want freedom for themselves, but controls in place to stop others hurting them.

in a game, where the consequences aren't as severe (you went to the underworld and lost some plate, vs being really and permenantly dead), the need for control is a lot lower.

also, in a smaller community, the playerbase is somewhat self-regulating, lessening the need for a controlling authority

and in the dev environment around EL, you see the same things. people are involved in the development to various degrees, input from players about decisions and ideas is usually listened to (even if it doesn't get the result they want), there's an ability for the individual to have some control themselves. open source is also a socialist idea, in that many people working together can get a lot done (the people who call open source communist as a bad thing have reason to fear socialism. they have a lot of power and possessions, more than they usually need, and socialism would mean they have to accept that they're not as wonderful as they think)

however, if EL becomes a lot bigger/populated, these biases (of the group in general) will probably lessen... these days there are more and more unknown names about, more people from other places where they learnt not to use manners, more mod actions, and keeping up with the community in regards to development and such will likely get harder (even if the people involved in development increase at the same or a greater rate. consider the diminishing gains of having more people on a job. more communication, organisation, control, time... )

Wow, really cool graph! Can you update it tomorrow, maybe, when more people post their score?

Updated graph is up at http://www.eternal-lands.com/forum/index.p...ndpost&p=278368

I find the positions of the mods interesting - none are in the bunch of ultra-leftists.

For the record, can you define ultra-leftists? As someone mentioned on another forum, the average person appears strikingly out in left field compared to almost all of today's elected leaders.

EDIT: Actually, judging from the mean and median, it's startling EL's economy doesn't have any formal regulation in place. (Also, interestingly enough, Zaer is closet to average according to the median, followed by radu - that's a bit of a weird trend.)

in a way, the NPCs act as a "regulator" on the economy setting a minumum price for most items sold in market. granted they have a very low price on the majority of items they will buy from you.

That was me too. I wasn't trying to make a scientific point about the mods, just saying that they are not especially left-wing compared to other EL players. Of course, EL players as a whole are very left wing.

Absolutely --- guaranteed sale price to protect producers and guaranteed buy price to protect producers. Market channel price wars are banned which is an anti-competition measure. Most item production has an associated tax (feasting potions). And... the best way to make money is to sit down and pick flowers all day. Sure sounds like France to me.

Economic Left/Right: -1.25

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 1.03

I didn't like some of the answers also. Almost left a few blank.

I think a wider range of questions would be nice too. I know the issues I feel very strongly about like abortion and race equality kinda canceled out. I guess I have my own views and would not fit well in any hard line party of either side.

I wish their was a way to explain your answer...but that would probably be more trouble than it's worth, and would probably turn into one of those quiz's where you have to PAY to figure it out-hmmmm who do I vote for? Let me refer to my "political compus"

But hey, it will be the new evolution on lazy...just like microwave cake-those are good though :)

You could find my opinion about politics by doing cat /dev/null or using the command ":" in linux ;)

But I really hate any radical thing, and politics is not an exception. For me the politics have a circular structure, and if you go to the left too much, you appear in the extreme right :P

Your political compass

Economic Left/Right: -4.25

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.64

Rather interesting - I know that as I have got older I have move from top right to bottom left (maybe a sign of maturity). I am just surprised how far to the bottom left I have slid.

Oh well im in good company (the Dalai and I must be brothers) - I am also surprised that the majority that play are in a similar position.

Ummm......

Quite surprising for those who know that I have an MBA from an American university !! But it's nice to be told that you are somewhere between Gandhi and the Dalai Lama ;-)

Interesting 'test' anyway !
