Things to check:

-The connection is up (well, I suppose that the answer is yes...)

- Your firewall settings (disable it, run the game, if you can connect, learn how to use a firewall before enabling it again)

-ISP, check that your isp does not automatically block ports or something

Knowing a bit more about your OS and firewall setting could help as well, since we lost our telepathic powers after the great cataclism in Draia

A short FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) by Cicero:

...

I can't connect to the server

If the error message says something about DNS, try replacing "#server_address = eternal-lands.solexine.fr" with "#server_address = 62.93.225.26" in your el.ini file

See if you can view the "players online" page on the main web site:

http://eternal-lands.solexine.fr/~radu/online_players.htm

If you can view that page, but can't connect to the server in the game, then you have a problem with your firewall settings. Ways to configure firewalls vary greatly, but you need to allow connections through port 2000.

If you cannot view that page, then there is a problem with your ISP preventing you from connecting. Try again later, or complain to your ISP.

...

Sometimes help faqs are there for a reason :P
