The Awakening

"Crato!!!" his mother yelled to him. Crato could not hear her though for he had gone into the forest as he was all ways told not to do because he could be attacked by the lone chimera that wandered the old woods. Crato was jumping from rock to rock across a stream trying to be careful not to fall in. As he climbed up the riverbank across the stream he thought he saw something moving through the bushes. Then he thought oh it must be the wind for he had been in this same situation many times before. He walked a small bit farther down the trail and happened apon the ruins of a once thriving town. He looked through all the ran down buildings like he did everytime he journeyed there. Then he heard a growl from behind him. There was the Chimera that he thought to not exist he picked up a stone and threw it at it but it stood there unphased. Then it started to approach him. He cowered and was screaming to every god he could think of.

At this moment The Watchman entered sight of the boy and the Chimera. The boy had climbed onto a roof and was batting at the Chimera with a stick. The Chimera to intent on getting a quick meal on the boy did not hear The Watchman approach. The Watchman then said "Do not fear anything child, this beast will cause no harm to you." The Chimera then turned suddenly and started to charge The Watchman. In an old dead tongue The Watchman recited "Del Toris Bok." The Chimera imediatly stopped its charge and came whimpering to The Watchman. He then leaned over and pet the beast and said some other strange things and the Chimera was off. "So boy where are your parents do they know where you are, said The Watchman?" "No sir Im..... Im not supposed to be in the woods sir, said the boy." I'd better not tell him that he would just be reborn though his parents may shelter him... "Take me to your home son I havent had a good meal in 3 days."

When they approached the stream the boy stated "Somethings not right." The Watchman then said what is it son. The boy then said," I dont know somethings different, its like something suddenly came over me that told me not to go back home."

Chuckling, The Watchman pated the boy on the head, "Don't worry lad, I know these woods like the moon knows the sky, we will be plenty safe." Crato, would question the man, but seeing how he just saved him, just kept walking. Crato kept getting a cold chill, he KNEW something was wrong, but everytime he looked up at The Watchman, he would only wink down at him.

Slowly, they walked through the woods, asking each other questions. Getting a feel for friendship, The Watchman smiled...Then stopped. "Do you smell that?" The Watchman asked. "Smell...what?" "I'm not too sure." The Watchman replied, "You live in that direction, correct?" He asked, pointing to the north-east. "Yes, why?" Crato replied. "It's li...Yes, something's burning." The Watchman said, then noding to a hill, said, "Let's get up there and have a look."

Crato, why were you late?

Mom...

Don't 'mom' me. I told you to get home, and you ran off anyways.

I, umm, didn't hear you.

Either way, you're not going to play with Jay tomarrow.

MOM!!!

Maybe if you would listen, you could play.

But, I swear Jay, I didn't mean to run.

Now Jay, don't give me that.

Jay, what are you doing?

...Jay.

JAY!!!

With glassed over eyes, Crato looks up at The Watchman, "...What hapened?" "You took a good stumble on that log there." Rubbing his neck, Crato asked, "Why did you call me Jay?" "I didn't call you Jay, child, you must have dremt it." Confused, Crato said, "I don't even know a Jay!" With one eyebrow raised, The Watchman gasped, and said..."I do."

Watching the strange two boys(yet he was unknown to them), was a man in black clothing. He had an archaic face and a strange bronze helmet, a feirce fire burned in his eyes. The mark of his master upon him. The man had two bronze plates (armor squares not real plates!) and his armor was leather. Resting at his side was a long sword and a dagger on the other. He watched the two figures in the forest with cotempt. Perhaps the younger one will join me, but the older one knows too much, I would have to kill that one. A tingle of both pleasing his master and corrupting the youth went through him. I will stay close behind them for now, I will strike later. Turning around he spoke to the pale black haired man behing him. "Stay away Fergah, one of them might sense you if you try to read their minds." Fergah glared at his master. " As you wish, I suppose you would like to keep the mercs?" The man with the strange helm replied " Yes, I may need to use them, hurry back to mortos before he gets impatient. Also make sure you don't tell the others about this plan, they wish to overthrow me and they might get in the way. As do you..." With that fergah made his slow travels back to his god. The man with the strange helm spoke, as if to himself (he is quite lonely). " Soon they will bow down to me and not mortos. This is but the beginining". He made sure his book was still there before motioning to the mercanaries to follow him......

( I wont be in the story that much, but be on your gaurd. Also i think this is a pretty good rp thread)

Working his way through the thick brush of the Nordflaq Woods, Fergah, knowing he had a long journey to Mortos, stopped near the river for a quick drink. Resting on his knees, he heared chuckling in the woods. With a panic look in his face he thought. Is that those two humans? No... they coulden't have made it this far." Slowly he peaked above the brush to see who it was. No, it's not them... He squinted to spot the mark of Mortos on on of the humans neck. Allies! He thought to himself. "Laq nalm!" He shouted in a friendly voice. Startled, the three strangers drew their weapons. "Who are you?!~" One of them shouted. "I am Fergah, friend of Mortos!" The tree men asked him to show his mark or Mortos. Shaken, Fergah said, "I can't. I only have the mark of my master..." The three men stood u, and started walking toward him, armed, and armored. "Stop, I aam not lying!" Fergah protested. One of the men started to charge at him. Not wanting to kill a follower of Mortos, Fergah hesiteted, but yelled. "Del Toris mij na!" The charging man stopped in his tracks. "It's a spell!" Shouted one of the men, "KILL HIM!" The frozen man shook out of the spell, and all 3 attacked Fergah. Fergah drew his dagger, and with stealth and speed, left all 3 men, face down, dead, in the solid earth.

Thinking of his master, and of Mortos, Fergah ws frightened. "I...killed a follower of Mortos." His lungs began to feel tight. "I had to!" He yelled at the ground, "I can't go back!" Gasping for air, and thinking of what tourture he will be going through, if anyone found out what he did. Slowly fell to his knees, then his stomach, whispering strange words to himself as his body began shaking fiercly. Trying to not faint. he grabbed his neck to focus, but felt a blade in his right shoulder. Knowing he would die if he went back to mortos, and would die if he stayed in the woods, stopped struggling for cauntiosness, and fainted.

At Crato's home his mother pulled him inside.

"Tell me what have you really been doing Crato, said his mother, and where did you get that ragged man in the warn fur?"

"Mom I told you, I was in the woods which I should have stayed out of in the first place... I was expploring the ruins in the northern part of the woods, and I was attacked by a Chimera."

"Dont spit lies to me Crato!!"

"But mom...."

"But nothing!!! Now invite that man in he looks terrible tell him if he wants he can eat here tonight and sleep in the barn.

"Yes mom...."

The Watchman was standing, staring blankly into the woods. He then thought to himself, Mortos..... He has decided to come for the child. I cannot let him try to manipulate him as he did I. The mark on his neck was still apparent and it burned like it hadn't in ages. He has sent his followers for the boy. I must get him out of here before sunrise for if Mortos got a hold of him.... He would return.... I also sense there are other forces in play here, but that is not yet a threat.

"Hey, Crato broke The Watchmans concentration."

"Oh sorry, I was thinking about something."

"My mom said you can come in for dinner mister and sleep in the barn tonight."

"That would be most appreciated, thank you."

"By the way mister, whats your name and how did you get that Chimera to back down?"

"You can call me The Watchman my name is unimportant, and you will find out what happned there in due time."

Crato thought to himself. This man is different then any man I have ever met. Theres something about him.... he makes me feel strange as if I know him....."

The two then walked in and sat at the table.

"Hello sir, said Crato's mother."

"Hello, your son here is very lucky I happened apon him when i did. He was in a very dire situation..."

"I was just going to ask you, Cratos mom interjected, so what exactly happened out there."

"Your son was exploring the ruins of an ancient elven city and he was attacked by a Chimera. I ...."

"He told me this, she interjected again, but I dont see how this is possible."

"It is a complicated matter Auriza you will just have to trust me he is safe and that is all that matters."

"How did you know my name, said Auriza in all most a whisper?"

"The Watchman chuckled, if you do not mind I would like to finish my venison before I go into the details of why I am here, it is not an accident, it is fate."

"Comfortable?" Crato asked The Watchman.

"I'm used to mud, so this combonation of hay and sacks are wonderful."

"Okay" Crato says as he walkes out the door.

Crato comes to a stop, turns around, and with a confused look asks, "Who's Mortos?"

"Noone, child. You need not worry about him."

Curious for answers, Crato continues, "Who's Jay?"

With a depresed look, The Watchman says, "Jay...He was an old friend of mine, killed by a follower of this, 'Mortos'. So I tell you child, Mortos is bad, he is evil. If you even as much as see one of his followers, run."

"How do I know what a Mortos follower looks like?" Crato asked.

The Watchman slightly pulls down on the color of his shirt.

Crato starts to stumble, then quickly sits down.

"Shake it off child. I you have that feeling again, run."

"B..But that t...that means you are...a..."

"Shush child. I was taken as a child. Similar to your age. Life has been horrible since then."

"Was that Chimeran a Mortos?"

"No." The Watchman starts to chuckle, "that was just bad luck."

"But will a Mortos come for me too?"

"Mortos is an evil god. It's his followers we need to worry about. If I tell you something, will you promiss not to discuss it with your mother?"

"Yes." Crato starts to panic.

Deciding to come forward, The Watchman spills everything. "You have a man after you, one of Mortos' highest ranked followers. We need to get out of here at dawn."

"I can't leave my mom!"

"Auriza will be fine! We will tell her that Chimeran hurt you, and we need to see a medicinal expert."

"Auriza, can I see you privatly for a second?"

"Ok." Auriza agrees, "Ok girls, stay ut, I will talk to...what did you say your name was?"

"That is of no imortants."

"Ooohhhkayyy...." Auriza says with a confused look.

The two walk outside of the hut.

"What do you need?"

"Crato got hurt by that Chimeran, and...I need him to see Nazure."

"It's that serious? Ok. BUT! If you do not come back tomarrow, I will make sure that you are found."

"Okay, I will get him now."

"NO! He is in his room, you can go tomarrow."

"Fine." The Watchman wobbles off to the barn and Auriza goes back to creating quilts with her daughters.

"Crato, let's go."

Crato peaks around a post. "She bought it?"

"Yes. Now I will escort you out of here. now."

"Now?? ...fine. Where are we going?"

"You remember that Jay we mentioned? I belive Aluwen, the god is telling us to go to where he died."

"Aww, i'm sorry, how'd he die?"

With a sigh, The Watchman says: "Two of Mortos' followers came stalked us. They took me, but Jay resisted, they took him behind a cliff, and... Killed my best friend."

"Come now, we go to Jay's resting place."

"Oh my! Come in, lay down. I will heal you."

"Thank you!" Fergah says, "What's your name?"

"Nazure."

"Oh, the famous medecinist." ((OOC: Is that a word?))

"They used to call me 'Jay' but noone needs to know that."

The Watchman and Crato walked down a small dirt path in a forest that had a strage eerie feel to it.

"I dont like this place, Crato said shivering."

"Why is that my child asked The Watchman?"

"I cant exactly explain it its weird its as if we are being watched."

"Very perceptive of you, The Watchman said."

As The Watchman finished his sentance a man leaped from the bushes scaring Crato. The man held a dull colored dagger and yelled,"Give me the boy!!!" The man had a very blank expression with a fire burning in his eyes.

The Watchman then said to Crato,"He is a follower of Mortos."

The man then charged at The Watchman stabbing toward his chest, but The Watchman pulled out a wooden staff blocked the shot spun around and hit the man in the head. Shocked the man tried to regain his footing. As he regained some of his composure the man went after the boy knocking him to the ground but then was pulled off by The Watchman. The Watchman then yelled to the man,"Look what your.... The man then turned round and yelled at The Watchman in a language that Crato could not understand,"The boy will be mine. Stop your one man crusade and follow me as you once did."

"Never!!, The Watchman yelled, the first bit of emotion that Crato had seen from him." He then seemed to go into a blind furry hitting the man over and over with his staff faster then Crato could comprehend still laying against the earth. He then stopped and rested his staff on the ground precisly when he hit the ground. A bead of sweat fell from The Watchmans face. The mans body soon dissapeared and Crato was astonished.

"Wha, where did he go, Crato said not believing everything that had just happened?"

"He has gone to The Underworld, The Watchman said slightly panting."

"The Underworld?"

"Yes, theres a lot your mother has not told you. Like the fact that your father is not dead."

"How do you know about my father, and who are you?"

The Watchman chuckled,"In due time in due time, and then he started walking toward the sunrise."
