bonsai kittens

Recommended Posts

not usually one to post here but i got this disgusting mail of a friend about a guy in new york, a japanese guy that is putting kittens into small glass bottles and such to create a race of

BONSAI KITTENS

now its not like i always have alot of sympathy for pets etc.. but this actually got to me and i think it horrible putting those small cats in glass containers.. the method is to put them in those containers when they're young because there bones are still soft and easily changed of forms..

check here for more info www.bonsaikitten.com also i got a mail that holds protest against this and if you'd like your name on that list pm me your name or email on the forum here and i'll send it to you so this can stop...

I have to tell you, that mail has circulated for years, (recieved it myself the first time about 2-3 years ago and again earlier this year) and it's fake - can't remember where I saw/heard/read it, but it is...

Just thought I'd inform people 'bout it.

Well, if it were true, it'd be horrible.

However, the clues are evident that things aren't real - I mean, who has ever heard of the US sanctioning bonsai kitticulture (especially with our animal cruelty laws)? Not to mention that the Siamese used in one of the examples is most obviously NOT a kitten (or, at least it isn't a newborn kitten).

One of the best run fakes out there.

Read the fan / hate mail. It has people playing along and writing in for customer support / appreciation as well as threats to call the SPCA.

The whole thing is a hoax. It is not so much funny in the product (which I assume was designed to disgust people) but in how elaborate it is and the responses it got from around the world.

actually this allthough not real is not illegal. i refer to the dread scott case where the supreme court defined property as having no rights. pets to my knowledge are defined as property...

Bonsai Kittens Causing Worldwide Uproar

Web Site Prompting Investigations

CLEVELAND, 7:37 p.m. EDT July 23, 2001 -- The United States Humane Society

said that it is aggressively investigating a Web site that's outraging pet

owners across the country.

And the Humane Society is not alone. The FBI also reportedly launched its

own probe.

NewsChannel5 first heard about the Web site "Bonsai Kitten" from a

concerned viewer. After investigating, the station learned that animal

lovers in the Cleveland area and worldwide don't know whether the Web site

is real or not.

In Monday night's Special Assignment, NewsChannel5's Jodi Brooks reports

that you shouldn't always believe what you see.

"That's just not right," Ryan Mezinger, who's adopting a cat, said. "(It)

kind of makes me mad. How could they do that to a cat?"

"That's disgusting," Teri Cannon, who's also adopting a kitten, said.

"That's animal abuse, really."

The Web site bonsai kitten.com shows a kitten halfway in a glass jar,

forced inside by a hand and a shoehorn. The site also shows an up-close

picture of a kitten's face pressed against the bottom of apparently the

same jar.

The idea, supposedly, is to physically constrain the growth of a kitten and

to sculpt it by rearing it in a small space.

Cat lover Sandee Robertson saw the Web site and thought that it was true.

"I'm sure it must be; they've got a Web site for it," she said. "There must

be an interest for it. It's disgusting and it's sick, but there are people

out there (who) would do things like that."

The Animal Protective League in Cleveland has received hundreds of e-mails,

letters and phone calls about the Bonsai Kitten Web site. The good news is

that according to the APL, there is no indication that someone has actually

tried to do that. But the APL does admit that it is fearful.

"Even though this site appears to be a spoof and everyone says it is, some

young people are going to take it seriously," Jeff Kocian, executive

director of the APL, said.

The Web site promises to deliver 3-month-old kittens raised in a jar, and

offers Bonsai Kitten products that you can do yourself.

But when NewsChannel5 tried to order the products online, it didn't work.

The Web site creator is apparently a student at MIT in Massachusetts. He's

jumped from server to server, and faces no criminal charges.

"No animals were actually harmed in the making of it," Stephanie Shain of

the Humane Society said. "It was computer imaging. (Because) no laws are

being broken, legally nothing can be done."

Bonsai Kitten is protected under freedom of speech.

College student Josh Keslar is adopting a kitten and has words for the Web

masters.

"I'd put them in jail," he said. "I'd put them in a little jar like that

and see how they like, rearrange their bone structure."

The Humane Society said that it will continue to monitor the site. For now,

it wants pet owners to know that it's a cruel joke that no one is finding

funny.

Ohhh... this one's good :P

And it actually hits what this is about just perfectly! - they've got a Web site for it, ergo it must be real?!? Riiiight.... :)

Don't we all just love our good old web? :hiya:

How the hell can someone even consider that that site is not a joke

. I've seen it for the first time like... 8 years ago and it is pretty evident that it is a joke. I mean, FFS people, learn some basic biology things.

A.) servers are not worldwide - though they can be accessed/"viewed" worldwide. They could be prosecuted by the laws of the nation they are located in.

B.) users are not worldwide - though they can be all over the world. They can be prosecuted under the laws of the nation they are in when they access the internet.

C.) International law...
