Go to the folder you installed EL in (default for Windows is C:\Program Files\Eternal Lands\). Open Error_log.txt and see what it says. Post everything you see (cut multiple lines, some things repeat over and over) here, and that might help us help you.

I had that crash problem too before.. creating new characters and all (test server). I think my problem was that I didn't have the newcharactermap.elm in my map folder. Do you have that file?

I have the exact same problem - more than 50% of the time I try to start the client, it crashes, and like Rilder, I get a very long log, with a lot of repeated lines. The main lines:

Log started at 2005-10-05 14:41:51

Error: Can't open file "./textures/fontv.bmp"

No Anim: ./animations/player_slash1.caf

My system:

AXP 2000+

Radeon 9000 Pro

768MB

WinXP SP1

I believe my video card's driver is only a month or two old, but I will update them anyway just to see if this solve the problem.

One more thing - I think this problem started when I set the client to start in full screen mode (1024 X 768 32 bit I believe).

Updating those drivers is the first thing I would do. It could solve a lot.

It could, but it doesn't - I have updated the video drivers to the latest version, but it still doesn't help.

Here are the pictures of the error I get:

http://www.geocities.com/smalul/EL-Crash1.PNG

http://www.geocities.com/smalul/EL-Crash2.PNG

The log is still very very long (there must be a bug in the error log generator), and still showning the same errors.

Oh, and my firewall is NIS 2005 (I don't think it has something to do with this problem, just with the "BD Insane 4.0" attack warning).

Your second screen shot is fingering atioglx.dll, which is part of your drivers for your video board. Have you tried updating your windows drivers as have been suggested?

Not only have I updated my drivers to the lastest version, I have done a clean removal of the previous version (safe mode, removal tool).

fontv.bmp isn't important, just the third font.

animations/player_slash1.caf IS physically there, right? Same with animations/canine_pain.caf?

The "unable to add command" junk is probably what caused it. They're the actor commands, I think, but I don't remember which one is which.

Just to make sure. Do you have Catalyst 5.9 installed now?

205759[/snapback]

Yes. I must note that with those drivers the crashes seems more frequent - now I have to start the client 2 or 3 times before I can play, while before the first time I tried to run the client it crashes, and the second time it worked.

One more thing - the crashes only happen after I try to log in (after I enter my username/pass and press enter) - not before.

Ummmm . . . I can play the game with no crashes (running Linux using a CVS compiled after Grum fixed my segfault problem). My error log also contains the messages:

No Anim: ./animations/player_slash1.caf

No Anim: ./animations/canine_pain.caf

I do not have the canine_pain.caf file but I do have a canine_pain1.caf file.

I do have the player_slash1.caf file.

I would like to see the cause of these messages resolved but they do not cause me to crash.

The cause is that there are missing/faulty files. Hopefully this will be fixed in the next update.

smalul, this clearly indicates that you didn't get the correct installation of your ATi drivers. Get the uninstall tool ad reinstall the graphicsdrivers again.

For WinXP this paricular driver set is called: 5-9_xp-2k_dd_cp_wdm_26409.exe

And the catalyst uninstaller, you find here: https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9448/1m/dlm...uninstaller.exe

You're running a 64-bit, right? You might wanna try compiling CVS. That might help some, at the least it'll run faster. I think you may have to add a flag to the makefile, though.
