Shields

How about in combat you use a shield to strike your opponent and stun then for a short time 5 seconds maybe. In the time that your enemy is stunned you it cannot attack or defend itself and you can cause more damage and kill it or when your enemy is stunned you could escape. This would put more use into shield which dont previde much defence and would help save people who stumbled into a dangerous place. It would also help people to get away from pkers when doing a quest that requires going into a pk area.

Id like to hear lots of feedback. :(

And how about the PK'rs that are uwsing shields to stun you?

i donno about this idea, its sound as it would be very hard to put into the game but if this approves i can see the game like interactive fighting (a,a,a,a "oh no hes too strong" d,home,d,home,d,home):lol:

Do you mean the spell or the item 'shield'?

 

For the spell -- A 'stun' spell would be quite distinct from a 'shield' spell.

 

For the item -- Hitting your opponent with your shield is a time-honored attack, at least with the smaller shields (like the round ones in EL):

  • Either a bash or barge with the face of the shield, to knock your opponent back or off balance, or to close to nose-to-nose distance (especially useful if you have a short weapon like a dagger).
  • Or a swipe with the edge of the shield.

I tend to assume that these are wrapped up into the existing damage allocations though.

 

Having 'stunning' as a result of an attack can work well -- the opponent can only defend for the next round, so you throw everything into attach. This worked well in ICE's 'RoleMaster' system, and we had some very tactical fights using it. There 'stun' worked because you could choose to split your fighting ability between offence and defence; so against a stronger foe you would be all defense until a lucky hit stunned them, then all attack to take advantage. ...and hope that the reverse did not happen.

 

However in EL, stunning could be viewed as part of the critical hit system. And don't forget, if you can stun your opponent, they can stun you as well!

Sounds cool, being able to stun a big monstor (like the chance to critical hit) would be good. Means you can bash some enimies and then hit them with everything you got.. Be great if you could stun them then do a critical hit.
