fishing maybe?

Recommended Posts

Be careful what you ask for - knowing Radu, as soon as you start fishing you'll hook a water bulangiu ! :pickaxe:

Fishing is present in many mmorpg's and it is hard to come up with something new that was not already implemented elsewhere (like pulling MiB's, sea serpents, treasures, rings, magic fishes of various abilities etc).

I'd say the way fishing could be introduced to EL is simply to allow use of harvest cursor on the fishing poles that exist in game already. In order to fish you would need to have bread in your inventory. For each "cast" one loaf would be consumed. ... that's poor man solution :-P

For elite anglers, fly fishing would be better - each "cast" would consume one cocka feather and "the catch" would be substantially better :)

Thread necromancy rules at times since it makes us look back upon the past which we may or may not have been around the game for at the time.

I have always liked the idea of fishing and I think that we just need the specifics figured out.

Oh....and for random events....

"your pole slipped and fell into the water"

"You just pissed off the local merman"

"You you hooked an octopus and it is not happy about it"

"Who threw out this pair of boots?"

"You just hooked yourself while casting out the line. Congrats, you caught a loon."

"You snagged your line and it snapped"

"Along comes a hungry bear...good luck running"

Why not if you harvest fish use it for penguine and bear bait.Or a stink bomb when it goes off around a area it teleports people away from where they were standing.Or put a walrus in the game to make some kind of oil for making a special item and use the fish to make a bait along with other hooks to bait them.It just seems strange to have a bunch of water and no fishing.while fishing they also can get stung by a jelly fish or or atacked by a shark.I do think bfore the fish can be used for anything it should be cooked 1st.Then we must also have clam digging where we have to do something with the shells and Oyster harvesting to get pearls.then a special knife to open them.So we put in crabs to make knifes to open shells make them killer crabs for high lvl fighting. So that the people who are fishing clam digging or oyster harvesting get attacked by them.while your at it we can make fish traps and nets .Crab pots use the fish as bait for them also.Too much to think about. :icon4:

Some fish like to eat other fish, so you'd have to use your bucket to try to catch minnows. But they die too easily, so you can't stick those in storage.

Sometimes you'd be reeling in sunken branches and seaweed (counts as a vegetable?). ...Just not the One Ring of Power...

A new "sea map" or two (or more) with a ship in it, for catching the bigger game. You'd walk onto or "use" a row boat (there are plenty of those lying around) to get there. But you'd have to beware of the hapless whale coming by, which might bump the ship, sending everyone overboard and drowning them. Or maybe you have a chance of grabbing hold of something before slipping overboard, depending on your dexterity...

Don't forget those exotic fish, which -- if you don't cook them properly -- will poison you.

... Just adding my two brainstorming cents worth.

just a quick thought on this one, maybe it could be a money sink, you are not able to make the rod, but instead gather the ingreeds, then take them to a fish pole maker, pay him to make the rod, so you can go fishing, the fishing can only be done in certain designated areas, a new item or two can be made from certain magic fish, so people will pay to try to get the item, but the chances obviously are varied to get the fish you want depending on the strength of the item, eg you can have a fish scale hat, which reduces magic effects, so 3 x fish A. Fish A 1:1000 to catch
