idea for books

Recommended Posts

as there are many ppl stockpiling dozens of books like summoning-pots without having any use for it.

how about making books readabale up to 10 times (i mean reading ten books of summoning-pot). when u read a book for the first time u will get the normal effect as it is by now and u get a lvl 1. each book could lvl it up until lvl 10.

examples:

- human-fight lvl is basic +5 , each other lvl raises by another +1 until lvl 10.

(that would be also possible for other fight-books.)

- damage-ring, lvl 2-10 raises it chance of successful builidng or even build-time.

(also expanding on other jewelry)

- summoning-books will lower the amount of mana needed

- potion-books could lower aswell time/failing

- manufacture-books same

- etc.

this are only my alpha-version-ideas, but it would get books back to game and new fun getting the books.

i think getting 10 human-elf-dwarf-fight books would also be a quite a challenge for Don aswell :(:D

that certainly is a good idea, i think i can expand on it a bit

the max level on a book you can get should be something like your rationality/2 and since it starts off at 4 i guess the minimum max (lol) would be level 2

its a bad idea probably, but how about "forgetting" books if you dont read them for a while  lol nvm i know that's crap :D

Humm, have you ever read a BIG book, like Fluffy/Chimera Summoning, I would not want to read it more than once :D But I understand where your comming from.

im summoner, so im used to read tiny books like chimera :-)

but for real; i havent read a book for about 2 month and im defenitely not the only one beeing in this situation, so i have very much time for reading left anyways.

and also there is a nice effect going with my idea. as it takes alot of time to read a book 10 times there will be more specifications in characters, as u cant read all books 10 times !! :D

This isn't such a bad idea...we'll think about expanding on it. We're also thinking about making the knowledge forgettable-for the things you haven't used much in a while.

That is not so fun.

The idea of making you able to read a book more than once, as per Bofred's post is a good one tho

maybe combining those two idees is good, for example:

if you read a book once you forget it if you don't use the skill in something like 1 month if you read a book 2ce you will forget it in 1.5 months and let this go up.

to be honest;

i think the emotion u get by serching books for filling up 10 lvls looks like this :D

and the emotion for searching to replace foigotten books is :)

so forget the loss of knowledge and make books-lvls

:P

forgetting books? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

seriously though, I think that some people jsut like to read all the books, and some people will never get the chance to build a serp sword, or summon a fluffy rabbit. besides, rare books like general axe construction will be constantly read, and it's no fun buying multiples of a 50k book.

I love the idea of being able to read books multiple times! It would allow people to specialise more, make books a little more valuable (there seem to be lots around at the mo), and there are many people who have read all the current books...

I don't like the idea of forgetting things though... and think any rate of loss should be very slow - you don't want to find you've forgotten all your research too quickly!!!

Also, maybe some kind of warning before a book you've read expires? For example, shown in research window in red?

Lets see it that way: an old dog won't learn new tricks, but he will never forget what he learnt so far. Cryptic, isn't it?

If you make book lvls, you can see it that way that you will forget the most details of the book, but you won`t forget the main thread, the main story and the most basics. So why not have some books (not all) to have book lvls so that you can learn additional points for fighting or manu or even spells, but if you don't fight for example the gobs any more or use this additional knowledge for some time, you will draw back to lvl 1 (the most basics)?

Ohh, I like that! Set a...Proficiency on the skill/book you have read. such as: "Your knowledge of fluffy summoning is Level 3" being the highest, but if you do not summon a fluffy for a while it will decrease back to the basics. lvl 1. I like his idea. Also you could have varying limits in the levels. summoning for example doesnt need many levels. however something like Goblin fighting should have many. Crafting should have many. It would show specialties in people. I know we are not creating this game in a class system but this would set up specialties. Good idea XenFugasi!

Note: Forgetting books entirely would bite. like, some of the crafting skills are 3-4 books in, if they were to all die. you would need days to get back to the ability to use it.
