Jammy2003 Report post Posted January 18, 2005 this is probly gonna make some people angry but i think that the length of the books and the number of the books is pointless... i mean half the books u read to start with all do nothing besides let u read others. i understand it would be too easy if it was really quick (instentanious) but just make them more expensive and lower the time or the ammount needed to do a simple thing like making life essence. to make life essence u need to read.... biology, botanics, biochemistry, and then finally life essence this is a total of 3000 reaserch points (i may be wrong i not sure what needed for botanics) reply if u agree or disagree with me
Dent Report post Posted January 18, 2005 I actually like the number of books and the research required. I find that my skills are progressing at a rate close to, but slightly in advance of the research done. this allows me to set a pace of advancement in the different areas in order to make a well rounded character. After almost 2 months of play, I can just about make everything I need to be a moderately equipped n00b. If the books went too quickly, or the research time was reduced, many players would be able to instant a lot of things that would wind up flooding the markets. as it is, newer players have to pick and chose a direction to advance. This helps to keep trade alive and keeps the number of high-level items reasonable. Reducing monster drops is, of course, the next step to raising prices and rarity of high level items. The highest level of manufacturable items should not be dropped at all, forcing fighters to trade things like capes, books and gold to the manu crowd. Pardon me if that is the case. I am still struggling to make steel chain If anything, I would like to see more research required to do things. Make it worthwhile to pick a trade and specialise. I gotta master the art of the one line post. My fingers just get too tired...
Jammy2003 Report post Posted January 18, 2005 this is a good point but it still is tiredsome that some of the books do absolutely nothing besides let u read more books if they dropped them and added the reasearch time to the other books i would be happy or even gave the first books a purpose other than to annoy theni would like it more

Ormus Report post Posted January 18, 2005 (edited) I've been given rare summoning book (Garg), steel/ Iron Axe books (ok so I can't use the axe ones yet but still got them) and Orc fighting, not to mention the several medallions and rings I was given all this was given to me free over about 2 weeks by 4 different players. If your having trouble with reading the books then raise your will and utilise the rationality it increases, effectively it greatly shortens the time. even if you not happy later with the will you can always reset your character and start to get your OA again (faster then previously, because your skills are carried over) and you keep your read books. I see no problem with the book lengths at all, its not like your limited to sitting and doing nothing while reading them, your still free to fight, harvest, Alchemy..etc. Edited January 18, 2005 by Ormus

Jammy2003 Report post Posted January 18, 2005 (edited) well then you have met some decent player then i have been stuck in DP mines when i a newbie and not 1 person who even tell me which direction the stupid exit was in! oh and as for the number of books i would like more books too but the fact that the first few are completely useless just annoys me Edited January 18, 2005 by Jammy2003

goatsgomoo Report post Posted January 18, 2005 Jammy, I find it hard to believe that no NHs gave you directions... And keep the books that are only used as prequisites, except maybe have them give you a boost in XP, except for the real general ones...

A lot of nice level people give away stuff to new players if they act nice. Like asking relevant questions and not begging. I think a lot of players got their first armour or god quest items from high level players without asking for it.
