  1. Sound files, someone please test them

I am getting a lot of creating buffer and source errors. When I go to DP via boat I get: [15:35:15] Got invalid sound number [15:35:15] Error creating a source 0: Invalid Operation Also, rain sound will cutout after standing around for a bit, although the walking sound (every other movement) continues to play. Thunder also seems to still play. I can leave the map and come back to regain rain sound. At least rain errors no longer kill all audio or freeze it on a continuous rain sound loop (pre-patch problems). Walking sound is active for "Environment Only" and "+General Character" in addition to "+Walking". These could be OS X (and its implementation of OpenAL) issues but are unlikely endian since I am using a i386 Mac. I will test it with a different OpenAL compile.
  2. Sound files, someone please test them

Okay, I was making a dumb mistake. I am getting Torg to make a small OS X specific change to his patch. Thoughts: Well, actions do not match up with the timing of the sounds, but I guess this is just because they are preliminary sounds. Plus, it seems like every other walk is silent. The walk sound file loops fine when it actually works. Of course, walking across grass should not sound like walking on stone, but I think that would have to be dealt with by modifying maps too. In all, I think these are pretty good changes, but I will have to do a lot more testing to search for issues.
  3. Sound files, someone please test them

So I am a little confused right now. What code should we be checking/testing? [edit] not sure why I cannot apply that patch from Torg. What command are you using?
  4. EL for mac [SOLVED]

Just in case someone stumbles upon this this thread, EL is available for Mac OS X. I am supporting both the PowerPC and Intel architectures. See this thread for more information. The EL downloads page links to the Mac client.
  5. OS X client specific bugs and To Do

Following linux conventions, all the configuration files are stored in ~/.elc/ including the chatlog chat_log.txt. You need to be familiar with the linux/unix filesystem structure and terminal commands to get to the .elc directory since Spotlight and the regular Find command apparently do not search hidden directories. One of my ToDo projects is to get this data into a more friendly, Apple Human Interface happy location. Until then, learn some linux.
  6. People who worked on this update

Eek! I forgot to mention Octane too. He definitely needs credit for the awesome job on the mac port. Thanks for the kind words. My other (little) contribution to the current CVS would be widescreen support.
  7. Make Sound / No sound option live

Agreed. It would also make my sound debugging a bit easier.
  8. Out of game chat?

Couple threads on this topic already. See here.
  9. new weather effects in cvs without rain

Yes, the new weather is not finished yet. No rain will appear for anyone. Be patient, or help code it.
  10. OS X client specific bugs and To Do

Thanks for the kind words. I have not compiled in png_screenshot, partly because it would grow the size of the executable, partly because I am trying to fix other stuff. You can always do a regular screenshot with Apple-shift-3.
  11. Good to hear. It would make my life easier (probably) to stick with ncurses since it is already available on OS X, at least in 10.4.
  12. Do you have links for elchat and pdchat? Is the source available? [edit] nevermind, found it at http://segv.antiroot.homedns.org/index.php...le=details&id=1 previous thread here: http://www.eternal-lands.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=12168 Still, gaim plugin would be sweet.
  13. I think this a fantastic idea. I have suggested it to Awn before. Also, if you are at work and want to chat, your boss does not need to see you playing a game. Integration with GAIM or other IM programs would make it even better, but a simple terminal interface would be nice for a start.
  14. OS X client specific bugs and To Do

I see you came over to the darkside freeone3000. Please include some hardware information and OS version with posts so I know whether to look at PPC or i386 code. I am completely lost regarding your question/problem. I guess you are running EL and Terminal at the same time. Are you executing EL from the terminal (ie ~/el_osx.app/Contents/MacOS/el_osx) which is not recommended? [edit] after in-game discussion I got a better handle on this. The terminal stuff is still odd, and I will need some other people to try running EL with the terminal open. The Icon thing is known, but I don't really call it a bug. If EL is the active application, and you take the mouse off the bottom of the screen, the inventory/atttack/spell/... buttons will depress (but not activate). This is a SDL issue.
  15. OS X client specific bugs and To Do

While I cannot be sure, that is one of the dumbest replies I have heard (from that company, not you). All the sub-releases are mostly bug fixes. It does not make sense to me. IIRC, the Tiger PPC build of EL was built under 10.4.5...maybe .6 (I am not infront of that computer). I thought you were only having issues between maps loading.
  16. Well, I take exception to these comments. I have worked quite hard to get EL just to run on Macs, and I think the current version works nearly as well as Windoz and Linux clients, IMHO. Most of the problems are only with PowerPC hardware. lorddeath202, I have a intel/universal binary version of EL available. Go here to download it (as Atlantis suggested). I am running it on my MacBook Pro without many issues. Yes, I have had the game freeze a few times. Yes, it is not as polished as the Windoz and Linux clients. Then again, the OS X development of EL has only really been around for about 1 year. Besides, that BootCamp program for running windows on a mac is a little buggy too. Forum threads on this topic: http://www.eternal-lands.com/forum/index.p...=ST&f=6&t=18673 and http://www.eternal-lands.com/forum/index.p...=ST&f=4&t=22115
  17. OS X client specific bugs and To Do

Okay, I was able to verify this. As far as I can tell, it is only happening on the 0.3c universal binary with PPC hardware. Although it is annoying, it is not a show stopper. I will take a look at the code or how I built the Tiger PPC version.
  18. OS X client specific bugs and To Do

Hmmm.... That is going to be a tough "fix". I don't have access to a iMac G5 right now to try and verify your problem. Then again, all of you are my testers. =)
  19. Macintosh OS X port interest?

Well, that really depends on your graphics card and monitor. On a dual G5 with 20" widescreen apple display(at work), I can do the 1680x1050 fullscreen, but not 1440x900. Some resolutions work and others don't depending on your hardware. Go to Apple's website to see the supported resolutions for your hardware. Sorry, but I do not follow other threads too closely. As I have mentioned before (and on my website, and in the Readme_osx.txt that comes with the game) the bugs thread lists known issues. Audio is a work in progress, as is the rest of the game. Sound from weather works, but does not always quit when changing maps. Music is a little lower on my list of priorities since it is an optional download anyhow. Then again, my real job is higher on my list of priorities too. [edit] Just for some pimping. Screenshot illustrates EL on MacBook Pro with Dock icon and Disk image (w/background graphic):
  20. Macintosh OS X port interest?

Okay folks. I have a universal binary (UB) now available for Tiger users, and I have updated the Panther version too. The UB was tested on my MacBook Pro and a G5 iMac both running the latest Tiger. I also uploaded the Panther version recently. Both include fixes for resolutions > 1024x768, and my new widescreen resolution work is also included. While a restart is required after activating, perspective view now works for both PPC and i386 in the UB. However, perspective view is still broken for Panther users. Please PM me if you cannot get the UB to run (after deleting ~/.elc/el.ini if necessary). I obviously have all the libraries necessary on my systems, but I could have made another absent-minded mistake. In the future I will be providing a much easier upgrade path (rather than downloading 30MB each time). This information will be posted on My Webpage in the future. As usual, bugs go to the bugs thread.
  21. OS X client specific bugs and To Do

Stupid me. I forgot to package in SDL and SDL_net. I compiled these myself on i386, so everything should be native. I am now uploading a fixed version (0.3b) that includes higher resolution support and widescreen support. It should be available ~4:30AM EST. [edit] available, with Universal binary for Tiger users. I have tested it (UB) on MacBook Pro and G5 iMac.
  22. 16:10 Resolution

Well, since we have the official blessing, I would just like someone to compile in the patch on a Windoz client to ensure that it works fine there too. So, anyone have windoz dev experience?
  23. 16:10 Resolution

Just an update to let people know that I have not forgotten about this topic. I have made a patch that allows for 1280x800, 1440x900, and 1680x1050 resolutions. I must say that it looks pretty sweet on a 20" Apple display at 1680x1050. I have tested it on my Mac ports, and drakos7 is being kind enough to test it on Linux, although he cannot check all these resolutions. I am uploading the patch today. Use against the latest CVS. Warning: Remember that patches create non-official clients. Use of these modified clients on the main server is a bannable offense. If you want to play around with this patch, do so on the test server. Hopefully enough people will test it so that we can get a thumbs up for general release. Please post positive and negative feedback. Note: I have made the non-fullscreen, windowed resolutions so that they display nicely on Macs (with the menu bar at top and Dock at bottom). This might leave a little more space at the top and bottom than Windoz or Linux users would like, but hey, I am the Mac developer. Patch ID 000984
  24. OS X client specific bugs and To Do

Good to hear. That "boot" you talked about sounded like you upset a moderator pretty bad, but who is to say. Yeah, I mentioned it somewhere else, but there is a PPC bug in the pseudo-universal version, and already changed the website to reflect the i386-only nature of that version. I had not thought about application switching. Hmmm.... Well, it will go on the to-do list. I honestly never play at full screen. I want to get the >1024x768 resolutions working first for Macs. Thanks for everyones' patience on all of this.
  25. Macintosh OS X port interest?

Thx gizz. Bugs should go over to the bugs thread. Yeah, i made a mistake on the PPC side of the universal binary. sry folks. And I appreciate you giving that version a test for me since I do not have a PPC with 10.4. Anyone else try wearing something that they know they cannot use? This might be another endian server message problem. More searching through code....
