  1. Cal version

Looks like there is a competing thread over here: http://www.eternal-lands.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=37182 I guess we are moving (as you note in your edit). Probably should close this thread and use the other one?
  2. Current CVS errors

I do not have time to check this right now, but can you add refcounted.h to the framework's Headers/cal3d folder and see if that makes a difference? I am pretty sure I left a number of unused headers out of the framework when I created it many moons ago.
  3. Update in November

OS X development here as always. RL (and my triathlon training) have been keeping me busy lately. My race is on September 23, so I should have more time to devote to EL after that. I imagine that with Florian's help, we can get the OS X client in shape for a November release. If all the ingredients that you want for 1.5 are currently present, why not feature freeze right now? This would give us more time to work out current issues and not have to worry about random new code appearing. BTW, it might be helpful to include in the first post links to all the goings on for 1.5. New model thread, landmine thread, sounds thread ....
  4. mac bugs

First, I will quote the rules for this forum: Before posting: 1. Do a search or read previous threads BEFORE making a post in this forum! "Bug Reports" that are repeats, already being worked on, or are already ingame WILL be deleted. - Read Eternal Lands forum rules. - Read "pinned" threads at the top of this forum. You must follow these rules when posting. This forum is not for general chat, its used to give the developers a common place for bug listings and discussion. If you dont have a bug to report, or cannot contribute properly - please don't post. Second, your thread title is not informative at all. I accidentally came upon it. Third, I will point out the Mac specific bugs thread, http://www.eternal-lands.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=34629, and the README that came with the OS X client. They list current limitations of the OS X EL client. If you can use "@" and "//", them maybe your buddies are not online. If you cannot use those keys, in all likelihood, you are using an international keyboard (read "non-US"). Is this true?
  5. Macintosh User Group [MUG] Client 1.3 Poll

Copy & Paste does not work in the Mac client yet. I think I have this listed on my website. BTW, we have a specific thread for Mac bugs if you find any other problems. http://www.eternal-lands.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=34629
  6. Support a good cause & win big prizes

Thanks again to the participants! Thanks to Awn for helping with the drawing. Most people know their ticket numbers, but I will be forum PMing the winners in order so that they can choose their prize(s).
  7. Support a good cause & win big prizes

The final tally was $2135! That is 427 tickets! Thank you all so very much! So, I have sent all participants their ticket numbers via forum PM (or e-mail for 1 person). If you have not received this information, please contact me before the contest. Again, the drawing is today, Friday August 3 at 9PM Eastern time USA. I am pretty sure that is GMT+5.
  8. Support a good cause & win big prizes

Yes, there were a few last minute donations (both of money and prizes). Well, the contest is over, and you all helped raise over $2000!!! I am waiting to hear about a "check in the mail" before I put up the final numbers. Everyone watch their forum inboxes for a PM from me with your ticket numbers. You will get this information before the drawing, Friday August 3 at 9PM Eastern time USA. There is no need to send me a PM (especially since my inbox is 92% full, holding all the donation info).
  9. Support a good cause & win big prizes

The same number cannot be drawn more than once. So, in the unlikely chance that it did happen, the duplicate would be thrown out. However, the numbers are completely random. There is an equal probability that 91204, -1276204, and 204 will be drawn (again, only the first would count). I will look into your concern though (and pester Awn about it). So, slight modification to make everything more clear. Picking of winners Taking the short integer from Qrand (plus 1), dividing by the maximum value of a short int (plus 1), multiplying by the number of tickets and always rounding up would give an individual ticket number. Signed short ints are usually between 0 and 65535, but we will make sure for the OS we are running on. The "plus 1" is to prevent a zero ticket. If the number of tickets, T=400 (which it currently does), and Qrand spits out 0: 0+1 = 1 1/65536 = 0.000015 0.000015*400 = 0.006 -> rounds to ticket 1 Other examples: Qrand -> 65535, ((65535+1)/65536)*400 = 400 -> rounds to 400 Qrand -> 1238, ((1238+1)/65536)*400 = 7.617 -> rounds to 8 Again, duplicates will be removed. I think this is completely fair, and remember that this is a charity event anyhow. I will send each person a PM with their ticket numbers once the total number of tickets has been determined.
  10. Support a good cause & win big prizes

Yes, ,still accepting prizes. Donations are still coming in, so just PM me if you want to donate a prize or $$. I forgot to list a time for the event to end, so I will set it at 9 PM Eastern US time, today, August 1. Since there are so many tickets, and the fact Awn/Drakos7 and I are programming geeks (well, he is the geek), we will use a random number generator to pick numbers, where each ticket is given a number. If we can figure out the technical aspects, we might webcast the "drawing". Of course, the webcast would be pretty boring watching me (or maybe one of our kids) hit the "rand" button on a calculator. If the webcast does not work (and maybe if it even does), we are thinking about calling out the numbers at the WSC town-hall. Of course, people do not have to be present to win. For those more technically inclined: Let T=#tickets bought, P=#prizes. To calculate the winning numbers we will use the publicly available Quantum Random Bit Generator Service http://random.irb.hr/index.php QRand Command-line Utility [v0.2, 2007-07-17]. We will generate an appropriate amount of "winners" (P) as short integers, convert them to positive integers, and take the last three digits that are within the range [0-T] (similar to using a random number table in a statistics book). Example for T=300 and P=4: . if the first four results are: 5913, -13808, 2401, 12204 . abs() -> 5913, 13808, 2401, 12204 . strip -> 13, 8, 1, 204 See post 55 below.
  11. Support a good cause & win big prizes

Sorry, but I do have a deadline on the contest (there are intermediate deadlines on my fundraising). Maybe someone you know can spot you. Prizes have definitely helped get people to donate, but it is pretty late in the game (so to speak). If you want to donate something, I see a "Magic Removal Stone" in your siggy.
  12. Support a good cause & win big prizes

Thanks for the silver ore, Jumpy! One day left to contribute.
  13. Support a good cause & win big prizes

Of course, thanks to all who are participating and spreading news of the event. Can you believe that we are nearing $2000 from EL players! Amazing! They do seem to pick a random % to strip from all transactions. A lot of variables. Thanks for your donations!
  14. Support a good cause & win big prizes

I did not really intend this thread to be a commentary on drug companies. I too am not a big fan of Big Pharma, but they have produced some great drugs. The big problem (in the USA) is the health care system in general. The chances of getting the government to legislate universal health care is slim-to-none due to the gigantic health insurance industry and lobby. I think the health insurance industry is more interested in keeping their jobs (and money) than the general welfare of the whole country. That is my two cents, but shall we get back on topic? Donations continue to be strong. 129 donations so far from people all over the globe! I want to provide some more information about the cause. As a Team in Training member, we participate in these endurance and fundraising events for an "honored teammate". My honored teammate is an eight year old girl who lives in a neighboring town. She has had leukemia since she was 3, which started as a fever that would not go away. She is currently in remission, but she still waits to here the words, "you are cured". She is currently in grade school, and she loves cheerleading, reading books, and riding her bike. By-the-way, as I discussed with Entropy before he allowed this contest, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society supports academic research. This means that if a cure comes out of an academic institution, it will be in the public domain, and the academics will patent it before Big Pharma can do so.

    Read post number 8. =)
  16. Support a good cause & win big prizes

Well, I think exeus101 was referring to the fact that transfers using existing funds (rather than a credit card) do not incur the same fees from paypal. Therefore, more money winds up going to the charity. But yes, Paypal is accepted. =) There has been a bunch of activity lately. We are now up to 21 people!
  17. Macintosh User Group [MUG] Client 1.3 Poll

Sorry, but EL does not run like other Mac applications. EL runs using some cross-platform code called SDL. SDL on Macs (unfortunately) does not behave as Mac users would expect. Normal Apple+? key combos are not recognized. A long term goal/dream is to make EL native on Macs (i.e. stop using the SDL), but that requires time I do not have right now.
  18. Support a good cause & win big prizes

Well, I thought that might be an incentive to participate in the event. Apparently not, since so far only 13 people have donated. I was not too keen on doing a "winner take all" lottery. I considered having the order of prizes above match the order in which names were drawn, but what if you got #15 and could not get to the caustic storage (lots of hobgoblins around one of them) or had no desire to pursue engineering? I thought being able to choose would be a nice perk. Of course, if the last remaining prize is the dung, well, you are stuck with a big bag of it. Unless someone wants to remain anonymous (PM me if that is the case) I will just post a winners list. Then I will contact those people in order, note what they want in this thread (on said list), and move on to the next person. Should not take all that long since we would not have to be online at the same time. I will probably use some trusted individuals to help distribute the spoils. If you donate and don't get drawn for one of the above prizes, I will probably put together a consolation prize (consisting of some stuff remaining in my storage). This depend on how many people finally donate.

It is unfortunate that many of us know someone affected by cancer, be it leukemia, lymphoma, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer,.... Actually, it is great what all of you are doing. Yes, I am fundraising, but you are making the donations to help the cause too. The prize list continues to grow with LabRat donating additional capes and an anonymous Dragon Torso Armor! Just a little over a week to go.
  20. My client is crashing

This problem seems to be a bit more widespread. One of the Mac client users recently contacted me regarding his inability to join the game or create a new character. Here is his error_log.txt: Log started at 2007-07-17 10:55:42 localtime (EAT) [10:55:43] Error: Can't open file "quest.log" [10:55:43] Error: Can't open file "commands.lst" [10:56:11] Bad light (number 0) when loading './maps/newcharactermap.elm'; co-ords [277116301511919403008.000000 4306482138230070181888.000000 274039735486251008.000000] colour [71547309178549094580224.000000 4742886487500329025650168954880.000000 215906350033743069948630007808.000000] [10:57:39] Client closed Cannot really update drivers on a Mac all that easily.
  21. Support a good cause & win big prizes

Correct, as far as the list on that website is concerned. Some of the people listed currently are old friends, some are EL players. However, Ghrae is the sixth contributor in this event/contest. Still looking like a few people will get a number of prizes. Odds are that each person will get at least one.
  22. Intel or AMD?

Well, since Macintosh OS X does not run on AMD, I guess I have to vote for intel. But, you left out SPARC, PowerPC, MIPS, ....
  23. Macintosh User Group [MUG] Client 1.3 Poll

They all go into the same place. =)
  24. Macintosh User Group [MUG] Client 1.3 Poll

The Mac EL client is like any other Mac application. You just double-click it to run. Preferences (i.e. all the stuff in your ~/.elc) go into ~/Library/Application Support/Eternal Lands/. Do not copy your el.ini file. It is better to have the game create it for you the first time. Cheers.
  25. Support a good cause & win big prizes

I figured that would be the best way of doing things. That way, you do not necessarily get stuck with a pile of dung (thanks again to Learner). Okay, I setup a Paypal donation link: Paypal link They want me to register as a business (with all the additional fees) and all sorts of other requirements in order to claim non-profit status. So, unfortunately, Paypal is going to take a cut of your donations. If you can donate using existing funds, they take less away. You will still get 1 ticket per $5 US donated, but if at all possible, donate through http://www.active.com/donate/tntsoh/JeffWilson instead (since the whole donation goes to the cause).
