  4. First PSP Post

They just came out w/ the update that includes the browser...but it is really slow. Slower than typing on your cell fone. but internet on like nothing
  5. problems...nothing but

I just bought a new computer, seeing as my old one died, just got my internet up this morning, and downloaded EL. I installed it fine, opened it, and everything works fine. I type in my User Name/Passy, and then click login. I login, see a glimpse of the rat house, where I was last, and then my monitor goes blank and says No signal. I have a Ati Xtreme 200 or something like that graphics card...
  6. problems...nothing but

So free...basically new video card...or no EL, correct? Maybe I should try updating my drivers
  7. problems...nothing but

Errr, what led you to that conclusion? All of my hardware works fine...my drivers work fine in other games...if anything is the problem, ITS SOMETHING TO DO WITH ETERNAL-LANDS....not major hardware/driver problems...... -_- <_< -_-
  8. problems...nothing but

Heres my error log, if this helps: Error: Problems loading texture: ./textures/fontv.bmp Error: Problems loading texture: ./textures/particle5.bmp Error: Problems loading texture: ./textures/particle6.bmp Error: Problems loading texture: ./textures/particle7.bmp I'm pretty sure this isn't the problem though, I have no problem with the textures...just...my monitor gives me a no signal response..
  9. problems...nothing but

I didn't have it in fullscreen mode, I always play windowed.
  10. problems...nothing but

I believe that its a 128, and yes, its an "ATI RADEON Xpress 200 series" according to my device manager. As far as I know, programs shouldn't be able to cause a no signal message either... but in this case, something is making my monitor do this when I open sign on to EL Hmm, when I used the TC client on my old computer, there was an added command something like Ati something workaround or something like that. maybe this could be part of it. Just throwing up ideas.
  11. problems...nothing but

Changed the video mode, opened EL, logged in, opened the forums to tell you thanks and that it worked....got the "no signal" message from my monitor, Also, I think that my keyboard stops responding after this happens. I tried to turn off computer using keyboard, didn't work, tried opening my DVD+RW drive with my keyboard, didn't work either.
  12. problems...nothing but

I'm pretty sure its not a connection problem, because my monitor works fine, I can leave it on for hours and nothing happens, its only AFTER I log in to EL that it stops. Also, this computer and video card is less than 2 days old...so I doupt my video card is "giving up" However, you know more than me, so is there anything I can do?
  13. Race secpific Items

Hmmm...this seems a little bit unfair, I chose to be a human, just cuz I like humans...and this seems to tip the balance in favor towards the other races. It doesn't make sense that every other race gets great weapons, spells, but humans get....dirt....I mean, nobody's ever going to use those things..... This would make the humans have to buy all of the "good" items from other races, while making no profits selling their own race specific items.

The fall of the Forest of Shadows: Authors Note: In this publication, you will find my collection of research on the fall of the great Elven city that once inhabited the region now know as Morcraven Marsh. At the time, this region was called the Forest of Shadows, and is supposed to be the birthplace of the elves. I would advise you to make your own evaluations of the historical evidence. I: Governor Playno Goldenleaf’s personal diary Wednesday, December 13th, 700 B.G.W.: Dear diary, today my council voted to expand the exploration of the massive cave system that runs throughout my domain. I tried to reason that it was highly unlikely that anything of importance would be discovered, but the council persisted, saying that it would be important information to add to our libraries. I think that this is a pile of rabbit dung, but in the end, I gave into their nagging and allowed them to select a team of explorers to sail into the massive underground lake and see if they can find anything new. One of the chosen elves is my secretary, Lisadar Oakflower! How dare they take my secretary from me, all for the purpose of “research I will be glad when this whole ordeal is over and I can concentrate on how much profit our traders are making. Monday, December 18th, 700 B.G.W.: Dear diary, today the exploration team reported finding an ancient tunnel. They claimed that the walls were covered with ancient runes and writings. The group is going to return tomorrow to obtain the supplies that are needed to further explore this passageway, as they have run out.. The team also reported finding thousands of small tunnels that criss-cross underneath our great forest! They are not quite sure what these are for, but they say that the forest is safe, as the tunnels have existed for ages. Also, today my son, Nakirii Goldenleaf, told me of his plans to take a small group of elves and build a small colony in a small part of northeastern Whitestone. Although I don’t entirely approve of his plan, a new elven colony will greatly add to our trading profit!

Edit on the story: Since its been a while, I took matters into my own hands and changed the "creatures" into dwarves. The storylines forum seems kinda dead now..so heres my attempt to give it life again.

  17. Food Chain!

Ok, imagine if smaller animals like beavers, rabbits, and rats (racoons and skunks) were hunted by larger animals such as wolves, foxes, or bears. Not only will this add realism to the game, but it also would add a challange. Imagine newbs in WS chasing rabbits only for the rabbit to be decimated by a bear. Further, if an animal kills another animal, the bag doesn't appear, because the carcass is eaten. This way, new players can't just let animals kill and steal their bags. Comments? Suggestions?
  18. Food Chain!

Oh, learner...make me mad...I wanna play Other-Life real bad, but the cost is killing me. And ...did you plan this before or after reading my post?
  19. OMG!

Ok, in the past 2 days, I've had a mirror cape, 3 pairs of leather boots, 3 steel shields, a tit long, and 2 pairs of pants break......is it normal to have that much equiptment break in 2 days!?!?! If so, it needs to change to like 2 items per day, because after my last steel shield break...I was so mad that I stopped playing EL cuz it was getting seriously unfun. Edit: started training again...another pair of boots broke...
  20. Been wondering for a while...

For the past month or so, when I click on my map, I don't see the blue and red X's that should be there. This isn't a huge problem, but it is annoying, and I finally thought to post on the forums. I'm using the (TC) client, but on other computers with the same client, I can see the X's fine.

Although I don’t entirely approve of his plan, a new elven colony will greatly add to our trading profit! Friday, December 22nd, 700 B.G.W.: Dear diary, the exploration team today reported that continued exploration of the newly discovered tunnel has revealed that at one time, a small community of dwarves had lived in the tunnel. The writings on the tunnel walls are believed to have been created 300 years ago, so they believe that the dwarves have long since died out. This has intrigued many of the scholars in The Forest, as they believe that there is knowledge to be gained from further researching the dwarves. However, there are those that say nothing good can come from exploring the dwarve's lives further; after all, the dwarves did die out unexplainably. I for one think that these dwarves could have developed mining techniques that we could sell to the other races of the land, and this far outweighs the so called danger by far. So I, Playno Goldenleaf will personally fund the further excavation of the discovered tunnel. Note: After this entry in the governor’s diary, the entries became illegible, and I could only find seemingly random words that survived the ages. II: Letter that was found in the tunnel, written by Lisadar Oakflower Please, anyone who finds this letter, please save us from the horrible fate that we have been doomed to! They will find us soon, and then the unthinkable will happen, just as it happened to the remaining members of our team. I might as well start from the beginning, in order to give you an idea of the Hell that we are living with. It all started when the Grand Council of our Forest called me to the stand before them. I arrived, wondering what honor, or punishment, I was going to receive. However, the Council gave me neither. Instead, they asked me if I would be willing to participate in an excavation project to discover more about the caverns that riddle the ground beneath our Forest. I accepted eagerly, for I was getting frustrated with our governor for his apparent obsession with making the elves the richest race in the world, and anything to escape his endless scheming to make money sounded good at the time. Now, the group gathered by one of the known entrances to the caverns, and upon entering, we trekked to the well known underground lake. We then clambered into the boats that we had brought with us and cast off in search for a new cavern. After days of searching, we found a small patch of land with a tunnel entrance. We set up camp on the land and started to explore the tunnel. At first, it seemed to be a natural tunnel, but soon we discovered ancient dwarven writings on the walls. We were sent a runner to tell the Council, and before further exploration was possible, we needed to stock up on supplies. When we returned to the mysterious tunnel, we found evidence that supported that dwarves had created a small community inside the tunnel. However, we soon came to the conclusion that the dwarves had died out a while ago. We reported this dutifully to the Council and they asked us to search for any technology that the dwarvesmight’ve left behind. We explored the tunnel to its end, at which we found a small opening in the rock wall. Through the other side, we could hear the sounds of squabbling, yelling, and fighting. Me and one other team member peered around the corner, and to our horror, discovered a terrible secret. Thousands upon thousands of goblins filled a great cavern beyond the crack. They were sleeping, eating, fighting, and breeding, all a disgusting sight to behold. Then, a few of the goblins closest to us alerted to our presence, turned and sniffed towards our direction. We fled, and called upon the other team members to help cave in the crack, making it impossible for the goblins to attack us. After carefully retelling every detail to the other team members, we hypothesized that the goblins had discovered a tunnel leading to the cavern that they inhabited in the land to the south of our beautiful forest, Naralik. They had used the cavern as a shelter, and now the majority of the goblin population of Naralik lived in the cavern. We also presumed that the dwarves we had discovered had been excavating their tunnel, and discovered the goblin cavern. To their dismay, the goblins had swarmed through the crack and attacked the creatures. From that point on, earthquakes had reduced the crack to a hard to spot hole, and the goblins had forgotten about it. While we had been deducing what had happened here long ago, the goblins had been busily excavating the tunnel. We were standing in small groups, discussing what our next move should be, when we heard the harsh, guttural voices of the goblin war cries. Being the farthest group from the crack in the wall, we ran and hid behind a large boulder as the other groups were torn apart by the horde of goblins. And so I sit, writing this, hoping that one day we will be remembered. Next to me are Ilossa Featherflier, and Marim Purewater, great elves both. They are coming! They have our scent! I’m telling Marim and Ilossa to run and warn the Forest, and I see the goblins cut down Marim. Note: After this, the parchment becomes stained with blood and nothing more is written. III: Personal Account of Ealwen Tallgrass, citizen of The Forest of Shadows Terrible news has reached the citizens of the Forest, Ilossa Featherflier was seen yesterday, limping towards the council. Apparently, there has been a horde of goblins that have burst from their cavern and are flooding the tunnels underneath us. The governor has been sent into exile by the council, seeing as he is in charge of our safety, and with a horde of goblins beneath us, we are hardly safe. Patrols have been sent to the know cavern exits and entrances, and they have been holding the goblins at bay. My neighbors have fled the Forest already, seeking safety with the humans. The council is supposedly coming up with a plan to destroy the goblins, but the citizens don’t trust the Council anymore. A small group of elves, including myself have come up with a plan. We are telling all of the elves who will listen to flee into Whitestone and seek safety, in the meantime, we are perfecting our plan. We have discovered many tunnels that extend under the ocean. Our plan is to dive beneath the water and destroy the tunnels, and flood the caverns beneath. We will carry out our plan tonight, in a final effort to destroy this plague that threatens to destroy us. IV: Letter from Playno Goldenleaf to Nakirii Goldenleaf Dear my beloved son, Today, I have been cast into exile by my own people, told to roam the lands until I die. I have decided to stick around and see how the treacherous Council will deal with the crisis. Yesterday, I saw something that I hope I will never see again. I looked back at my beloved home, and the trees seemed to sink into the ground. Today, the trees have started to fall, and sea seems to be rushing into our home. The stench of dead goblins fills the air, but it has come at a great price, our home has been destroyed. -Playno Goldenleaf Summary: The plan carried out by the loyal elves of The Forest of Shadows succeeded, the goblin threat was destroyed, but the home of the elves would fall as well. In time, the great trees would fall into the stagnant water, and over the years, the wood decomposed, and the tunnels beneath the once great forest collapsed. Finally, the area had turned into a swamp, and Morcraven Marsh was born. As the years passed, humans tried to settle the marsh, however, the two forts that they built soon became abandoned as goblins migrated north from Naralik.

  23. The Tale of Mori_Ranmaru

This is the tale of Mori, of the Ranmaru clan: Prologue: A long time ago, on a distant continent, two families settled on the bank of a beautiful river. The families were the Ranmaru family and the Date family. Soon, more settlers, fleeing the troubled lands to the south, joined the two families and soon a town was formed. The town grew and soon became a safe haven for those seeking protection. One day, the river ran the color of blood, and became undrinkable. The townsfolk murmured and discussed what this could mean. The people who had come from the south said that a similar effect had happened to their rivers, and in a year or two, the monsters would attack. However, most of the townsfolk decided that this was foolishness and disregarded it. Only the two original families heeded this warning. In the meantime, the water had to be purified, and one of my ancestors, a great scholar and mage, created a spell that rid the water of all taints, making it pure. This spell was only taught to members of my family, the Ranmaru family. As the years passed, the town grew as always, but soon the houses to the outside of the town reported seeing fire in the distance and seemed troubled. My family and the Date family both recalled the warning about monsters and constructed a boat each, in preparation to flee if the monsters should come. One day, a horde of monsters appeared on the other side of the river, Orcs, Goblins, Trolls, and Cyclops were there. Chimaran Wolves hungered for blood, and Ogres eagerly awaited the massacre. The town was shocked. What shall we do? How will we survive? What will happen to our children? The Ranmaru and Date families told the citizens to flee and seek the safe haven of the great elven cities of the North. The families loaded up their boats and prepared to depart, leaving the doomed village behind. For days they traveled on the river yearning to reach the open sea. Armed with fishing rods, and the spell to purify water, they said goodbye to their home. When they reached the sea, they decided to make their life on the ocean, never again to set foot on the troubled lands. At first life was hard, and many died. There were pirate attacks, and seasons where the fish seemed to disappear. However, life grew better, and their dream was realized as the two boats slowing turned into a small floating island of wood. As the years passed, the small floating island grew into a floating fortress, with forges, kitchens, bedrooms, and everything that the Families needed to survive. Young children were trained at a young age, taught the water purification spell, and well learned in the art of fighting with the Katana to defend our home from the scum of the sea, pirates,. I was one such child, the floating fortress was the only home that I had ever known, the birds were my friends, and the fish were my food. This is where my story begins. Part One, Childhood: When I was young, when I was carefree, when my only worries were whether or not my friends would be able to play that night, those were the best days of my life. I attended the small school that taught the children of the Fortress, and slowly grew strong with the Katana. When I had gotten to fifth grade, I had already mastered the Water Purification spell, and was learning advanced magic that was normally not taught until adulthood. One night, I heard shouts and jumped out of bed, forgetting to grab my sword. I ran outside my room and ran to my parent’s room, to see what was going on, as I approached, I realized that the door was cracked, My parents always made sure that the door was shut. I peered through the door and saw my parents kneeling on the floor. An unknown voice cackled and taunted my parents. Sounds of fighting drifted from the outside part of the fortress. I realized that it must be a pirate attack. Suddenly, my body filled with anger as I watched a hand reach out and grab my mother. Simultaneously, I heard a voice utter a command in a language that I didn’t know. I watched as an old cutlass descended on my father’s neck. I watched in horror as the blood started to flow. I didn’t have time to get my katana, so I prepared one of the most advanced spells that I had been taught, and pulled open the door. The pirates glanced up at me, probably dismissing me as child, who couldn’t do anything. I concentrated and uttered the words for the spell. The pirates froze where they were; I held them with bonds of air and created a box of air around them. Then I summoned water from the ocean and filled the box with water. The water slowly filled the box of air; the pirates realized what I was doing and started to struggle against the invisible bonds. When the water reached the top of the box, I watched in a grim satisfaction as the fire inside the pirates slowly spluttered and went out. I cast a small lightning spell, making sure that the pirates were finished. Then I sat by my father’s body and wept for hours. When the Elders discovered me, I was punching the pirates’ bodies over and over again, not even realizing what I was doing in my grief. From that day on, my mother was a different woman; she was seldom seen outside of her room. She never said a word to me, and when I was fifteen, she passed away, it wasn’t worth living to her anymore… Part Two, The task: I had grown a lot since the night my father had perished at the hand of the pirates, and was turning into the strongest warrior that the fortress had seen since its creation. The elders charged me with the education of all the children on The Fortress. I dutifully taught the children, hoping that when the time came, they would have the strength to do what I was training them for. Our existence on The Fortress remained unknown to the rest of the world. One day, the Elders called me to a meeting. They wanted to see how the outside world has advanced since the two families had fled their town centuries ago. They wanted someone to travel the oceans and see if the world has changed enough for the Ranmaru and Date clans to reveal themselves. They had chosen me to research for them and bring back new knowledge that would influence the decisions that the Elders would make in the Future. I was grateful of their decision, as my job teaching had become dull, I needed some adventure. They said that I would have one month for me to prepare for my trip. I gathered food, polished my armor and Katana, and created a list of the things that I needed to find. First, I would have to see if the monsters had been defeated or if they had pillaged and burned across The Lands. Then I was to gain knowledge, spells, weapons, cooking, anything that I thought would better The Fortress. When the time came, I cast off in my ship, looked back at the only home that I had known, and set sail to complete my task. After many weeks of sailing, I came across an Island that seemed to be infested with small furred creatures and many people. I learned from a woman named Lasud that I had arrived on Isla Prima, part of the continent of Seridia. My quest has begun……… This is the first story related to Eternal Lands that I've made, so tell me what you think =) I'm not quite sure if this is where to post this though Edit: I added the paragraphs (Let me know if I divided it up at a bad place), some small grammer, capitilization corrections.
  24. The Tale of Mori_Ranmaru

I was kind of hoping that the Katana (could be renamed, but the basic concept), and samurai, could be native to the "Distant continent" perhaps to be implemented later. For example, Samurai (again, could be renamed) armor and weapons could only be purchased on this continent. This also opens opportunities for new building models, NPC quests ect. ect. ect.
  25. Imagine this; you equipt a weapon and if you attack something with it, you have a chance (Say one out of every one hundred attacks) of doing a weapon specific attack (WPA). For example, you could be wielding a halberd and then if you get a WPA, you could plant the halberd pole, jump up, swing the halberd and decapitate your opponent. Or if you have a katana, you could hit the enemy multiple times (5-7 attacks) for lesser damage in the time it takes for the opponent to attack you once. Although i'm not sure if this would be possible with the current attack/defense experience system, but I think that this would an interesting experience that would stop training from being as boring as it is currently. To balance out the experience loss, you could boost the experience gain for WPA's only, perhaps get 250 to 300 exp instead of 20-30 for each sucessful WPA. Tell me what you guys think.
