  1. I am a somewhat noob to EL( in comparison, see stats below), but a veteran to MMORPG's and have done test work for SOE back in the day. I know my stuff COUGH 8P lol I just think that mixture is bit too costly, bot selling or not. At minimum it will cost you: 2 Blue quartz 2 Cinnebar 1 Energy Essence 8 titanium ore 7 FE's 3 coal 1 meade This potion costs like a level 50+potion but is only Level 32. Magic potion and poison antidote are higher level potions but do not cost nearly as much to make. Think about it, Mercury and a Titanium bar! I don't even think titanium is used for crafting, so there no reason why a crafter would mine it. Thats why i suggested silver instead, because silver bars are used, and heavily. My stats: Overall: 48/49 Attack: 33/33 Defense: 36/36 Magic: 24/24 Harvest: 31/31 Manufacture: 14/14 Alchemy: 26/26 Potion: 21/21 Summoning: 14/14 Crafting: 24/24 Engineering: 0/0 Tailoring: 0/0 Ranging: 16/16 Gods: Aluwen (top rank) Zarin (top rank)
  2. I propose a slight change to potion of crafting. Nobody is selling, Nobody is making. A Titanium bar for a mid-level potion, for such a temporary boost, seems like such a waste. I know I wouldn't waste a titanium bar to, if successful, make a potion of crafting. Perhaps change to 1-5 titanium ore, or a silver bar? I haven't been playing EL for all that long, but I have yet to see a bot sell this potion. Which tells me nobody is making it. A titanium bar is a very steep price, valuable to so many other areas, especially when mercury is also a part of the mix. If you have the skill to spare titanium bars, and make mercury you probably are not going to need a 5point boost to crafting. Just a thought?
  3. I think a spell (between lvl 30-40) or a craftable/drop item, even a perk would be sort of a cannabalism spell or item. Where is would take off something like 50 health and give 25 mana for example. This would be a great in a tight spot, but can never be abused. Cost of healing prevents abuse plus takes away much of the mana gained. IF used as a perk, it can be attached to harm to spell. cast on yourself for the effect. great motivation to level up. Also perhaps rare drop only item with a zero cooldown would be great as well. Just a thought.
  4. Magic insight worth considering

I can remeote heal someone for 90+ hit points. The cost for that at the moment is fair imo I Was really referring to the amount of essences needed for some spells and experience given for spells. For example, I'm a level 20 caster and did quest for 20k magic exp points(but cost me 5kgc for poison antidotes needed, if I waited to make antidotes the 20k magic exp gained is near worthless). I need 7k exp to get to level 21 for restoration and about 30k to get to level 24 and portal room spell. After level 24 magic most spells i will not need for a while( and dont care about right now), so that a great cutoff point for this example. For me to get level 24 I need to cast shield 800 times or Restoration 350 times. Now I can make ME's for shield, but that is still a lot of ME's, for restoration spell i cant make HE's so it would cost me 4kgc. I know 4k doesn't seem like a lot but it only get worse and worse as u get a higher level. Now I'm sure if you been playing a long time, gc isn't an issue, but for a 1 month player it is. If I had not done quest, It would take about month longer. Plus on top of this it costs ethreal points!! I can only cast shield 4 times then i have to wait 48 minutes to cast another 4. because of this I bought a regen cloak so now 15 mins, but cost a pretty pennt for a noob....plus factor in costs of spirit potions at 15gc a pop. As it stands it much more cost effective to buy Body potions and spirit potions, but once I get restoration spell that is no longer the case because of magic exp gained by using spells plus restoration will only cost me 28gc for about a 100 point heal(I think since rationality is lvl 10 and mag Even according to Economics guide at wiki, MAgic is one of the worst cost per XP ratio. something like 2.6XP per gold coin using shield, not factoring in cape. That means it going to cost me about 50kgc at best to get to level 24 at best since i started playing. It need a slight tweak, especially for lower levels. Added: IMHO EL is all about exp, pickpoints and gc. Combat is 7x more for efficient than magic, you would be nuts as a noob not to spend most of your pickpoints towards combat attributes plus u can carry more stuff for harvesting. I think u need to be about oa 50 before you focus pickpoints on magic attributes. otherwise until then, its just a couple here and there. The ability to heal myself for 100points and use the portal room is vital to me, so I'm doing it as fast as i can without compromising my ability to fight and harvest efficiently.
  5. I have thought about this, but first a little background on me. I have't been EL very long, but played EQ for a long time, starting when first released as beta as beta in the late 90's. I had helped their dev teams with ideas on several occasions. Was a top wizard, on SH server. When it comes to EL and selling of items and GC for cash, I was dead set against it and couldn't believe it was allowed.....BUT: The more I played the game and thought about it, the more and more sense it makes. 1. Kudos to the dev team for making EL such a great game, and it's free. So if they want to sell items and GC more power to them, as it is a great way for income. The more income they have, the more improvements to the game are made. After playing this game a while, I'm hooked and can only pray they do not close shop because they cannot afford to support the game. Especially in this economy. 2. I was taken by surprise on how GC oriented this game is, and takes a long time to advance.....10x more so without GC, if much time is spent harvesting. It almost deterred me from continuing to play...the fact that I'm between jobs right now (yes I got laid off last month), was really the only reason I continued to play and had the time to do the mundane tasks needed. This is important. I'm now hooked. I can easily so how noobs can stop playing after a short time, if they do not have the personal time to invest in the game. The selling of items from the dev team is vital here too, because not only of revenue stream mentioned above, but because more people will continue to play the game. It allows peeps who dont have lots of time to play to have fun. I have no problem at all if someone buys lots of GC or any other item for this reason. Plus the more players who play the better it is for everyone, especially the dev team. People who have done the work the hard way, please don't be jealous or hold it against people for buying stuff with cash if done in a responsible way. Personally I feel this option is great....plus If I do get a job soon, I can keep up with my friends more easily if need be. I can understand the frustration from some peeps, but it's no big deal when you think about it. Even more so in EL when things can break in an instant. Added: I remeber in EQ, there was a guy trying to get my guild who bought his toon, yes his toon...for 3kUSD. This infuriated me at the time, and I denied him an opportunity to join. Needless to say this person joined a rival guild, and played for years and was a thorn in my side. Was this ethical? I almost reported him to SOE to get him booted, but I didn't knowing this would cause problems if anyone learned of it, because he/she was so valuable to their guild. Sony got years of revenue from him, guild got a solid player and everyone liked him/her. Looking back on it now, it really was no big deal, in fact was a positive in the long run. We are all in EL together whether we like it or not, and the more the merrier IMHO. Who cares of someone buys 1 million GC, a good sword, Rostogol stones, etc. It affects me none in a bad way (other than a bit of jealousy), but my bot will certainly appreciate another toon with a million GC! Think about this too, even a noob with a million GC, that a lot of money to invest in the game. I know I'd stick around and play to make good use of the coin. Thanks Rob
  6. Ubuntu 9.10, EL crashing at startup...please help

Actually, I will delete that, because the new nvidia 190.42(deemed stable) drivers work as well. http://www.ubuntugeek.com/install-nvidia-g...repidhardy.html fopr Karmic you have change apt lines manually, from "jaunty main" to "karmic main". Follow instructions and it will even be added to System>Administration>HardwareDrivers menu.

  8. Ubuntu 9.10, EL crashing at startup...please help

I am using the 1.8.0 client, installed with the ubuntu gui tools .sh package. I was using the el.x86.linux.bin on 9.04 install and it load 1 time, but then the exact same issue. I am forced to play with my Win7 RC1 dual boot, but will expire soon. When i start the game, sometimes it will crash immed and sometimes it will almost make it to the "click screen to continue", it random...but always cashes. BTW Im using 9.10 KArmic and using nvidia 185 driver(recommended driver) and is activated. always the same error log.
  9. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 w/ an Nvidia 7900 GT/GTO with linux driver version 185. Everytime I start EL it crashes after choosing a server from the launcher window. I have updated sound and music files, but still the same result. Here is the error log: When I type "eternallands" in the terminal..this is what i get: rob@rob-desktop:~$ eternallands /usr/games/eternallands: line 149: 3318 Segmentation fault /usr/games/el.x86.linux.bin $config $* &>~/.elc/terminal_log.txt game output: Log started at 2009-11-18 20:58:14 localtime (EST) [20:58:14] Using the server profile: main [20:58:14] Window size adjusted to 1014x713 [20:58:14] GL_ARB_multitexture extension found, using it. 10. This is my first post in this forum. I just want to start by saying that I have been playing EL for a few weeks now, but I'm hooked. My A/D is 32/35. I played Everquest for years when it was first released, and helped the dev along the way from time to time. I think magic should less costly in terms of essences. This is my only complaint. In return, I think researching a spell should be more time consuming. Magic is magic afterall, and 1-2 essences of each type per spell is more than enough. It's much less costly to use potions and that shouldn't be. Here's what I suggest: 1. Every Spell has at least one book, and should you decide to learn it, this is where the GCoin and time should go. 2. Higher level Sigils (above level 20) should be dropped or made only. 3. Essences cost less, and the time and money spent in learned in research/making the spell is rewarded to caster and faster to level up..and/or essences made much easily and at lower levels as needed for lvl matching spells. 4. This also re-enforces a choice that every toon owner has in where his/her time spent more evenly. 5. Reduce the EPoints used per spell slightly is not a bad idea either. Possibly the higher your magic level and reasoning level, the lower the cost on some/all spells. I just can't afford to 30GC for a 12 point remote heal at my level and is almost silly, especially when a potion is more effective and cheaper. This is my only real gripe on a totally awesome game....but please less essences to cast a spell. I understand that one can make essences and I do make matter essences, but I cant make a HE's and HE's are required for 2 of the 1st three spells one can learn. With these changes I think the game a bit more balanced. Thanks for listening. Rob (gor)
