  1. first game you ever played?

Definitely an Atari 2600 game, but I don't remember which one. Maybe Pong, Adventure, Outlaw, or some other game that came out before 1983.
  2. New Summoning Creatures Elementars

    I like this idea.
  3. Take back the market!

    Please don't feed the trolls.
  4. #Lottery command

    Sounds like a good idea.
  5. New Market System

The bot EternalBroker already gives EL a function similar to the one suggested in the original post. Let's start using it more.
  6. Selling Degraded Items to NPC

If the npc charges more than players for shields, than players would just take the gc and buy a new shield from another player.
  7. Loudness war

This thread is to find out what people think of the loudness war. Read the wikipedia article to find out everything about it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war Personally, I prefer cds that maintain the dynamic range of the original recordings and are quiet enough to not clip. Recent cds sound very harsh and give me a headache unless I listen to them at very low volume. I have some cds from the early 90s that sound great at all volume levels. As a result of the loudness war, I always try to buy old cds instead of new ones. I just bought a cd of an album that was originally released in 1974. I had a choice of the current 2003 release, a used copy of the 1994 pressing and a used copy of the 1990 pressing. I bought the 1990 pressing. There are some albums that I want to buy but won't because they've been mastered too loud, which makes them sound unnatural due to reduced dynamic range and distorted due to clipping. What does everyone else think?
  8. Loudness war

Volume isn't the problem. The problem is that newer cds are mastered so loud that the volume ceiling of a cd is not just reached, but often passed. That causes clipping, which is audible as distortion. The other problem is that compressing songs to reduce dynamic range makes music sound unnatural.
  9. landmines

So landmines are ok as long as we don't call them landmines? They still do the same thing. Would not a rose, by any other name, smell as sweet? EL is not real life. Some people have difficulty distinguishing fantasy from reality, but that doesn't mean the rest of the world needs to change their habits to accommodate the overly sensitive. EL isn't real. The landmines in EL aren't real. If you're offended by aspects of EL, there are plenty of children's games available to play.
  10. Loudness war

All radio stations compress all the songs they play for just that purpose: to make all the parts of the songs easier to hear over car and road noise. That's fine. I don't expect top quality sound from FM radio and I appreciate being able to hear when I'm driving. That doesn't mean cds have to be compressed as well. Here's an idea. If record companies are trying to make their products more appealing to those who listen on portable mp3 players, compress the mp3 versions of songs and leave cds alone. Teenagers don't buy cds these days, anyway. Also, Death Magnetic is much louder than And Justice for All. If I want it louder, I'll turn the volume up.
  11. Loudness war

Many of the external links at the bottom of the wikipedia article are about Death Magnetic. It's one of the loudest albums ever. There is no dynamic range and audible clipping throughout. Interestingly, the Guitar Hero version of the album sounds fine because it was delivered to the game developer in single instrument tracks. They had to master it themselves, so they made it sound as good as they could. You can refer to this database to see just how loud cds are before you buy them. http://www.dr.loudness-war.info/
  12. Crafting god, make it 20% xp-bonus too

I see no reason to not make Zarin offer a 20% bonus like the other gods. Also, att/def are fighting skills while manu and crafting are mixing skills. Not the same thing.
  13. Guess the player name!

    Sorry, no.
  14. I'll take your word for it since I've never played Rusescape, but I think the article I saw on Slashdot was referring to some things that happened in the past. More on topic, I hope EL never gets that limitation. It could get very annoying.
  15. Earlier this year, I read on Slashdot that Runescape started banning players that sold in game currency. They lost half their subscribers when they started doing that. Also, a quick search shows that currency selling in Runescape still happens. I don't think any game company has yet found a workable way to prevent gc selling. I also don't think gc selling is a big problem.
  16. Rings

How about we get a ring for each map?
  17. Guess the player name!

Sorry. I forgot to I had guessed. This one needs a clue. Flip one of the letters to get the name.
  18. Guess the player name!

    piscator
  19. So a token is a gift certificate to the EL shop? That would make a nice gift.
  20. Astrology

Astrology means almost nothing to me. I do what I want regardless of fail rates. I haven't taken skeptic, though. I probably should have mentioned that my alch level is high enough that I don't have to worry about fail rates even when I have bad astro. Most people aren't in that position, so skeptic may help. But remember, your levels will increase with time, but skeptic is permanent. Even a reset won't remove it.
  21. I don't see why he would treat banks any differently.
  22. new command for flushing the client memory

How much memory is the client supposed to use? I'm using linux and EL is using 200 megs of RAM after running for 5 hours and 14 minutes.
  23. More realistic temperatures

New engineering item. Thermometer 1 mercury 2 vials 10 FE random chance to break I don't expect this to make it into the game, but we already have the ings, so it seemed natural.
  24. We already have banks. They're called storage.
  25. Item creation change

Slim's prediction: This thread will become a meaningless flamewar very soon. While I'm posting, I may as well give my opinion. I don't like the idea of forcing players to do things they very much don't want to do. That includes making peaceful mixers go to dangerous areas.
