  1. Current CVS errors

Found this bug after compiling the mac client yesterday, and mistakenly posted it in the Mac bug reports thread. Oops. Also, noticed its appearance on both a G4 and an Intel Mac.
  2. Macintosh OS X client 1.8.0 bugs thread

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to post this, but I did a universal CVS build of the mac client today and noticed a kind of major bug. Basically, bags do not appear. If you create a bag, the bag window will show but no bag graphic will appear onscreen and if you close that window, you will not have access to what you put in the bag. Also, I did a build on October 5th, and this bug was not present then. Just letting you all know...
  3. Removal Stones - where did you find one?

Physique Removal on coal in WS diamond cave.
  4. Removal Stones - where did you find one?

    Reasoning Removal on WS cotton.
  5. Here are book prices for all the plate armors available in game: Book of Iron Plate Mail: 20kgc Book of Steel Plate Armor: 6kgc Book of Titanium Plate Armor: 6kgc Book of Bronze Plate Armor: 20kgc Book of Red Dragon Mail: 20kgc Book of Black Dragon Mail: 20kgc Book of Ice Dragon Mail: 20kgc So, anyone else find it odd that the Iron Plate Mail book costs over 3 times as much as the Steel and Titanium books and the same amount as the Dragon armor books? Given that Iron Plate Mail is supposed to be the low end plate mail, maybe this book price can be lowered...
  6. Macintosh OS X client 1.8.0 bugs thread

Found a major, Mac-specific, crash the game bug with one of the new quests. I'm going to be purposely vague, as completely describing how to reproduce the bug involves major quest spoilers. Anyway, in one of the new quests, you are to fetch something in a certain school for an NPC named Aurora. When I found this object, and used the Use icon, my client crashed. Furthermore, I was completely unable to log back in. I'd put in my char name and password, the blue progress bar would get to the end, and then the game would freeze. Reinstalling the client, and even starting it from a different user account with no saved info failed to work. Finally, I grabbed my wife's PC laptop and was able to log in successfully. However, I noticed that there was an empty space on the shelf where the quest item I had grabbed earlier had been. Figuring the problem might be with this particular animation trick, I used a Votd ring to get myself far away from the room I was in, and then attempted to log back in on my Mac. This time I logged in successfully, leading me to believe that the problem is with the animation specific to this quest. I am now very scared to re-enter this particular room on my Mac client... I'm on a 1.5GHz Powerbook G4, 1.25GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 with 64MB of VRAM.
  7. C2 Population

For the most part I train on C2, and do most everything else on C1. Though recently one of the new quests forced me to get up off my lazy butt, dust off the MM cape, and do a lot of C2 exploring that I'd always meant to do, and kept putting off. There are some very interesting places and secrets on C2. It is certainly worth wandering around from time to time.
  8. Selling

    I'll take the 39 make rare/fails for 1.2k.
  9. So, I've been thinking about the recent removal of Speed Hax potions, due to Ent's frustration about their lack of use. As to why this was the case, I think the main issue was simply cost. There simply weren't too many people out there who were willing to shell out 2-3kgc to run around for a little while, especially when much more inexpensive travel options such as rings and the portal room already existed in game. Anyway, if running is ever reimplemented, I think it should be done in such a manner that anyone, including newbies still hunting rabbits on IP, can afford to at least try it out. Here are a couple ideas I've had for making that work: Solution 1: Multiple levels of Speed Hax potions. For example, have a weak potion that maybe uses fox fur, a medium level potion that uses leopard or black panther fur, and a high level potion that uses good old Lenny fur. The weak potion could require double or triple the food consumption rate of the old potion, and stop working at food level 0. While this would make it fairly useless for most players (just like minor healing and mana pots), it would still be cheap and allow a new player with a pile of veggies in the inventory to at least try sprinting across IP or maybe even to WS storage. The medium and high level potions, of course, would then require less food consumption and have a lower stop point. Solution 2: Simply get rid of the potion all together, and make running an innate ability that still consumes a ton of food. It could then be toggled on and off, just like most other MMO's out there. Besides, it can't really be overpowered if everyone can do it, right? If that sounds too easy, exhaustion damage could also be added. Maybe a point of damage every 5-10 steps. Also, if running becomes universal, maybe a few fast spawns or invasion creatures can be added to keep things interesting. Alright, just my thoughts on the subject. My last couple of suggestions have been torn to shreds within a couple posts, so have fun ripping me a new one!
  10. Depletable Resources Poll

Having slept on this, and thought it through a bit more, I've voted no. My big concern is for new players. For example, what happens when a newbie decides they want to start alchemy by making FEs, follows the instructions in the Skills tab, and then finds the sulfur depleted in the Crystal Caverns? As far as I know, there are no other sulfur deposits in the game that can be safely accessed without MM or a def level of at least 26, and a 7kgc MM cape is an awfully big expense for a newbie.
  11. Depletable resources and multiplaying

Well, my knee-jerk reaction is that depletable resources are a bad idea, given the sheer amount of harvestables needed in this game to level most non-combat related skills. That being said, I had a similar reaction to the mini-events, and honestly, after dealing with them for a while, I've found that they aren't all that bad, especially after the rate drop in the last update. So, yeah, I expect that I'll be annoyed at first, but learn to adapt eventually, once the kinks get worked out. As for multiplaying, I am actually more against the idea with depletable resources than I would be without them, for many of the same hogging and hoarding concerns already mentioned about a dozen times in this thread.

  14. Removal Stones - where did you find one?

Instinct Removal on DP cotton a while back.
  15. Game freeze in votd caves

So, every single time I have gone to train on Female Orcs in the VotD gold mine, I have been able to count on the game freezing at least twice per training session. I usually end up having to opt/alt-x out of the game, quickly log back in, and hope I'm not dead. This has consistently happened, without fail, whenever I go down there. These freezes haven't occurred anywhere else in the game, just in the mine... As far as system info goes, I'm running the MacOSX version of the client on a 1.5GHz Powerbook G4. Video card is an NVIDIA GeForce FX, with 64mb of VRAM.
  16. Dethroned

I'm harving and bored, so here's a negative perk idea: Dethroned - negative 5-7pps - 20-60kgc - Crowns of Life and Mana cannot be worn. Just might give people some incentive to use all those helms that are usually ignored.
  17. Dethroned

Heh. Fair enough. Guess this would've been a better suggestion before the instances came out. Oh well, just trying to come up with a way to make helms more useful.
  18. Unequip all

So, I really like the "Store All" and "Drop All" buttons that have been added to the inventory window in the 1.8 RC. What would go really well with these is an "Unequip All" button that simply unequips all worn/wielded items, throwing them back into the inventory. I think this would be really handy at storage, basically allowing you to store everything you have in a matter of 4 clicks.
  19. RC2 Windows binary and Linux/OSX data

I did a CVS update and compiled the MacOS X client last night. So far, it seems to be looking good. I like some of the new art. Also, a big thank you to whoever updated the Xcode project this time around. It was nice not to have to add in a bunch of missing files, like I had to do when the 1.7 RC came out.
  20. fruit cooldown on login bug

So, with 12 feasting potions and one piece of fruit in my inventory, whenever I login I have a full cooldown on the fruit. Other, possibly irrelevant stuff in my inventory at the time included some energy essences, a pile of energy ess ingredients, a couple of pickaxes, and an excavator's cloak. If I wait the one minute for the cooldown to expire, logout, and then log back in, I once again have a full cooldown in effect on that one piece of fruit. I've logged in and logged out about 5 times in a row now to test this and the cooldown has returned each time. Also, I'm using the MacOs version of the client.
  21. fruit cooldown on login bug

Just for fun, try reversing their order in your inventory and test it again, see if you get any different behavior. Just tried that. With 7 feasting potions in the first inventory slot, and 1 fruit in the second, the same thing happened. However, when I switch them around, there was only a small 1-2 second cooldown that occurred each time I logged in. Interesting...
  22. PL Manu School

Made 4 sets of warm fur gloves in the PL manu school, and got normal exp and kept the product. Also made a pile of leather helms, fox scarves, and fur hats in the same session, and got double exp and product loss as normal for these. I guess the school considered fur gloves to be in the remedial class...
  23. PL Manu School

*sigh*. My mistake. Feel free to delete this one, mods. Oops.
  24. Macintosh OS X client 1.7.0

Thanks for the client. Currently using it, and it seems to work great. Only odd thing I noticed is, that with reflections turned off, all the water becomes this very sky bluish color. It looks normal, though, with the reflections on. Other than that, I haven't run into any real problems. Great job!
