  1. What would you do to "fix" KF?

    I basically see two kinds of PK-ers: - those that want to test their skills against a human opponent, not just the programmed monsters; - those that just want to have a large number of kills for whatever reason. Adding resources to a PK map only benefits the second group, the first group doesn't need any lures. And the players that feel they need to go into a PK map due to that added resource will indeed go in naked or with the absolute minimum gear needed. For the first group, maps with different kinds of limitations are probably much more interesting.

You have been told several times already that you need to talk to the game owner, radu (entropy here on forums), for any access to the server (except for playing the game with the official client, of course). And don't expect him to contact you. Given the number of people who currently have any other kind of access (all of them involved with the game since a long time, over 15 years), I think your chance is very small. So if you need a game where you are free to hack (in the positive sense of the term), I don't think EL is for you (or your class).
  4. First off, forget about fixing bugs like the one you described, they are not client side... Second, I have no problems compiling the Git client, certainly no need to modify any cmake files. You do need some extra header files for the nlohman_json, for me that's a package in the standard distribution repository (nlohmann_json-devel for openSUSE)

    Forget about those Wiki pages: it's not an official EL site, and the only person that has the required access rights seems unable or unwilling to correct the problem

    If they follow the instructions, usually rather quickly. If they don't, it can take a very long time... Speaking as a moderator, I have to point out that you need permission from the game owner (radu) before you can use a modified client to connect to the game. This is in addition to the game rules (specifically rule 23) and bot rules which limit what any bot can do. Also note that a bot has to be approved as well as paid for (20 $/year basic fee).

    Just for completeness, this only concerns the EL client. The server is completely separate, and any access to that code would have to come from the game owner (don't bother :P).

    While that sounds completely reasonable (just like an option to have your bot ignore players or bots), you might have a better chance of success proposing that to your bot coder/hoster. Or switch hoster, or code your own bot and host it yourself (not realistic in many cases) There is no way the EL client can take care of that, and no (reasonable) way for the server to do it, either. Keep in mind that bot code has basically nothing to do with the client code (other than that it's easier to grab some functions you need anyway from the client instead of reinventing the wheel) Basically all that can be done from the EL side is locking a troublesome bot or banning the hosting IP (and think of the effect that would have against an El-services bot...).

    I tried a boot to see if that restarts the bot, it looks like it might have. If that works, fine. I'd rather not kill a bot that has been paid for without a very good reason. Otherwise, perhaps you can get your bots to ignore Rraisa (yes, I know that makes her less useful, so does locking her). Oh, and just to be crystal clear, the above does not mean I am (or want to be) in any way responsible for Rraisa. This was just a stopgap to alleviate the problem.

  13. Colored Bot PM's

    As far as I know, that would require server support to be really correct. While your suggestion would work, it is a hack, as bots can come online and go away at any moment. And anyway, bots aren't supposed to PM you on their initiative, you have to PM them first (e.g. you have to ask for Mercator notifications), so is this really a problem in practice?

    Erm, no. The stats Maxine showed are the stats for the only "greenganjaking" character currently in game (capitalisation doesn't matter), there cannot be another one. And to be complete, once a character is deleted, you cannot recover the stats (at least not through the link Maxine used). So better make sure you give radu the correct name of the character you want to recover (or pay another 5$). Oh, and you'll have to convince him you are the owner of the character.

    Not sure if it is related, but I've noticed something similar with teleports on harvesting: I added a sound alert on "you stop harvesting"; on a teleport event, the sound starts, and then gets cut short by the actual teleport

    As I see it, AFK training becomes a problem if training spawns are occupied an unreasonable amount of time by AFK trainers. Even then, an active player should be able to work around it, as the AFK trainer can't pursuit monsters(*). And just a fyi, ignore levels on skeletons and goblins, have been changed already from the quoted 26 and 21 def (in 2017, iirc they are based on combat level now, see the posts in the "updates" forum section). (*: unless by using a macro or modified client, which would be against game rules, but that's not the subject here)

    And what if perks are just a flag, toggled when you put on or remove an item giving that perk? It's not when you start wearing the item that troubles occur, but when you remove the item (in this scenario): - when putting on an item you check if you should toggle the perk, easy, no problems; - when taking off such an item, what was the original state? Of course, this can be coded around (several ways to do it come to mind). But at the moment, you can't wear an item giving a perk if you already have that perk; perhaps something to take into consideration when discussing a suggestion?

    It also makes gatherer medallion unusable for players having taken the MM perk. And I suspect perks are coded in a way that makes it impossible to allow wearing an item with a perk if you already have that perk (be it through an item or by a visit to the wraith). And keep in mind that taking the perk for 3PP and buying the removal is not such a bad choice for beginners when MM cloaks are rare and expensive
  20. @Burn: you are not attacked here. Some parts of your suggestion were not appreciated, that does not mean any criticism is aimed at you. Specifically, my last post here was to Nogrod, about his desire to have every detail hammered in stone. Which is what made me (and others) reluctant to see the "safe spots" made official in maps or rules...
  21. You already got "safe from invasions" for indoor storages. Are Mel, Iscal, Glac outside storages? Are you not safe from invisible (or shy) rats? And are you surprised "the mods" aren't particularly in favour of making this policy explicit?

  24. There are already some known safe areas, just not in an official list. That you may not have time to go there is a completely different matter. Basically, what you request comes down to "don't invade any area where someone is AFK". Going AFK in a random house: obliging the invasion mods to check every single house they plan to invade for AFKers means they won't invade such places, as it basically doubles the time needed to prepare and start such an invasion. That is not to say most won't make a reasonable effort to avoid places with someone AFK. Going AFK outside: no mod is going to check a whole map for AFK'ers. In addition, what are you going to do about "acid rain" or "solare flares", they should be removed as well? The situation you describe about not invading certain spots had some context: it was about maps where we know players are e.g. AFK training, or not actively playing, not about situations where someone might be AFK. In other words, we are not supposed to target players (e.g. AFK trainers in VotD gold mine), which is reasonable. This kind of thing, in combination with the continuous hassle with overcappers (and the whining if you request them to respect the rules...), constant requests for invasions (or demands! and not always the most polite either, making invasion is not a duty for any moderator), and complaints when some parts were more difficult than expected, made me stop trying to (learn how to) make invasions. And nothing I see here helps to revise that decision.
