  2. Novac quest gives no reward

    I have been doing novac's quest where you have to kill a Brownie, a Wood Sprite, a Boar, a Brown Snake and a Rat for a long long time. So long that I forgot which ones I still needed for the quest, so yesterday or the day before I went to ask novac and he told me under "Second mission current objective?" that I still needed to get the Boar. Today I was lucky and got the Boar in PV and got a message saying something like "Congrats you got the novac Boar" and a message appeared in the quest log: <None>: You got the boar, good job! I did not get any reward but figured I had to go back to novac for the reward. When I talked to novac there were no congratulations or rewards and nothing new is written in the quest log. When I ask novac about "Second mission current objective?" the answer is "You got everything..". Isnt the quest supposed to give some kind of reward ?

    Today I accidentally found a rat in Ida killed it and got the popup and msg in quest log "You killed the rat, good job!" Going back to Novac he now had the option "Second batch done" and I could finish the quest. It thus seems that Novac's reporting does indeed have a bug in reporting all done when the rat is still missing.

    No, I did not click on "Second batch done" and I just went back to novac to check if I could do it, but no such option is available. Is it at all possible that I am still missing one or more of the mobs ? I did some grepping in my quest log and could not find a line about the snake, but it might be because I have been playing from two different computers. Thanks for helping.

    Maybe some "Feed the monster" quests that appeal to different levels. Examples could be: "Feed the goblins" - causing goblins to be peacefull thus allowing new players to roam PL or go for books in Naralik "Feed the chickens" - causing cockatrices to drop slightly more or perhaps drop other items than usual "Feed Lenny" - making C2 night travel safe for low levels

  10. Haidir quests bug

    I was doing both Haidir quests at the same time, both the ordinary one and the daily one. In the normal one I reached the kill the black bears in nc cave point and as the daily quest i had to kill armed skellies also in the nc cave. In the cave I managed to get the bears first and got a message about this. I then killed a few more armed skellies and got a popup "All the bears are dead!". Haidir accepted that I killed the required bears, but Druppel does not accept that I killed the armed skellies. I tried killing another batch of 30 armed skellies but still no luck. Updated: After waiting 24 hours and trying again i managed to finish the quest by talking to Druppel again and killing another batch of skellies.

    I though I had fixed it. What is the date of the binary you are using? I uploaded one dated May 2 @ 10:40AM, and I can get all the buttons to be square. My bad. Had the Apr 29 binary. May 2 binary is fanfabutastic!

    I have been using the test build for around 15 hours now and have been unable to get it to crash unless I open the statistics window on the counters tab where there are still rounded buttons, so a definite thumbs up from here. Should we keep it this way or implement a fix that handles the counters window as well ?

    I think all it would take would be to modify widgets.c around line 786 where: I have started looking into it. Might make a button option in the options dialog for it if this truly is the culprit. Stay tuned. Okay, I have made a quick hack for the MacBook users. Download only for MacBook users with integrated Intel Graphics Download the above file and unzip it. Find your original EternalLands app, right-click on it, and select Show Package Contents.... Then, place the new EternalLands binary into the old Contents/MacOS folder. If this works, then I will look into making a cleaner build (having rounded buttons as a working option). Initial testing (on wife's MacBook) is promising. I tried this version for around 4 hours and so far have been unable to make it crash - except when having the statistics - counters window open. But since this window still has rounded buttons this looks really good from my point of view. So maybe a toggle that switches the draw_smooth_button between drawing square and rounded buttons would be a reasonable fix. Thanks for working on this.

    This is a bug that has been plaguing MacBooks (that have integrated Intel graphics) since the 10.5.5 update and EL 1.7. I have looked into the problem a bit, and I don't think there is much we can do. It seems to be entirely related to an update in the graphics drivers that occurred at 10.5.5. Florian and Fedora, care to weigh in on this? Just wondering if there are any news on that one? It's bugging me too... But fortunately I still have an iBook for mixing I have been playing on a macbook for quite a while and I think I understand the problem now. The Intel integrated graphics openGL driver has a bug that causes this crash when certain features are used at the same time. Most applications dont do this and thus there is no problem, and this is probably also the reason why Apple and/or Intel havent provided a fix yet. The EL client normally does not use the problematic features, except when drawing the rounded buttons like the ones that are on the manufacture window, the spell window, the statistics-counters window etc. So as long as you dont have any of these windows open the client works like a charm - open any of them and the client will crash sooner or later. I had a look at the source code and it seems to be quite simple to make a quick-n-dirty patch by having the "rounded button" routine do the normal square buttons instead, but I am currently unable to verify this as I do not have the development environment set up. If someone with a devel environment would care to give this a whirl I would be happy to hear from you.

Inspired by the recent discussions about too little RL income for Radu i had the following idea: Allow players to pay to obtain advantages, and at the same time allow players to pay to remove other players advantages - level the playing field so to speak. So how would this work ? First the advantage side - the more you pay the larger your advantage. This should probably not be linear, but with cost going up exponentially and some kind of cap. The advantages could be any or all of the advantages discussed in the gold membership thread. Next the remove advantage side - someone pays and everybodys advantages are lowered accordingly. Thus if someone is stinking rich they would first pay to remove all advantages for everybody and then pay even more to raise their own advantage to the max. I know a lot of people dont like the idea that RL money gives you an advantage in EL, but this is already taking place and this scheme actually makes it possibly for ppl who like a level playing field to pay to keep it level. It also has the advantage that the RL money people spend will actually go to the ppl deserving the money and not to those exploiting Radu's good work for their own profit.
  24. In RL these two things getting an advantage for yourself and taking away the advantage of others are linked. If a company spends a lot of money on advertizing they are likely to increase their market share thus gaining an advantage and removing somebody else's advantage since the market is often of nearly fixed size. This is in no way a crime in RL and even if it was this has no bearing on EL - you dont get charged with manslaughter after PK-ing... Also you dont go to jail for thinking about things....

GoodDay2Die: Hmm, thats what I call highly informational and constructive criticism - NOT RunTime: I do not mean that you spend 5$ to get an advantage and I can then spend 5$ to cancel your advantage completely. It might tage 25, 50 or 100 people to each spend 5$ to cancel your advantage (and everyone else's advantage). Thus if you pay to gain an advantage either you can expect to have the advantage for a while unless someone with a lot of money decides to cancel your advantage. In my experience people are willing to pay to gain an advantage. With the gold membership everyone pays 5$/month to gain an advantage and many of their competitors do the same and the advantages cancel out and people dont spend more. With this idea I hope that some people with deep pockets will spend a substantial amount of money and thus put a smile back on Radu's face.
