What is WRONG with you people? Look at yourselves. What does any of this blather have to do with the thread?! Get a grip. If you want to have a silly little flame war you can pm each other.
  2. vampireLOREN is a bagjumper

Oh how i love being dragged into these things. It is the apex of the pinnacle of my existence. Firstly, I was sitting in the no longer pk north cave in nordcarn harving iron. Some silly newbie is harving in there with LESS than 21 defense. Either that or he misclicked on an armed gob. So the poor newbie dies. 99.999% of the time I get up and get that bag and spend 10 minutes returning stuff. Well to be honest with you I couldn't be bothered this one time. Out of habit I harv OUT of console in the nc cave. I saw one person come by and that was vampireloren. He walked in grabbed the bag and left. He did NOT run for the bag, this was a significant amount of time after the death. I hardly think loren was even IN the cave when lutyo died. It took quite a while for lutyo to pm me, long enough that I sat and looked at the bag while harving and long enough for loren to have left the cave. Furthermore, I certainly could have missed somebody else who might have been in the cave and who may have looted the bag. So what If i'm a mod? I mean seriously. Does that mean that I have uber super vision and can watch 3 channels, gm, help requests, abuse reports, moderator chats, pm's, mix, harv, AND look out for deathbags with unerring accuracy and unwavering attention? man i'm lucky if i can remember what i ate for breakfast. Could somebody else have taken the cape? sure. Could loren have asked me who died? sure. Could I have picked up the bag? sure. Do I regret not doing so given the dramatics that have arisen because of it? no. vampireloren was NOT running for lutyo's db. I did NOT tell lutyo so that lutyo could call loren a bagjumper. I did NOT pick up the db myself because I spend HUGE amounts of time, energy and resources helping newbies and non-newbies and well pardon my icy heart but I like to actually play occasionally without having to stop every 2 minutes to spend 5 minutes helping somebody out. Yes I did see somebody take the bag. So what? I saw myself take lots of bags. And I wasn't able to return all of them despite the efforts I made. The singular observation that loren took the bag is not in any way, shape, or form any sort of judgement on the player. That loren took the bag which may or may not have contained an exc cape and left could mean many things. When I told lutyo that loren took the bag and left I did immediately regret saying that because invariably in a situation like that somebody posts my private conversation in the forums and then I have to read through 30 posts and lay out my version of events. Whatever lutyo had to say or do after that is his own business. If he's going to open up a conversation with accusations and threats that's his business. Why dont WE ALL take a lesson away from this and have some consideration for how our words and actions come across. With regards to the chat log. Yes it is fishy. Yes lutyo approached loren in just a horrible manner. Next time let the person know what you're talking about. Be polite. If somebody pm'd me like that -let me leave no doubt in your mind- they would not behave in that manner again anytime soon, at least not to me. Whatever. I lost over 20 million to bob in pl. i lost 30k fe to a bagjumper at molgor. stuff happens. take a lesson and try not to make the same mistakes that led to such unfortunate events. As for me, I'm staying out of this forum and Aluwen help anybody who drags me here again. *NOTHING I wrote here is in any way shape or form any sort of official position of EL, its developers or moderators.*

  4. Help [SOLVED]

The blue bar indicates your etherial points or mana. The HUD or Heads Up Display is described by the Tutorial NPC as well as on the Eternal Lands website. Based upon your stats and the armor I see you wearing I would say that you are not ready for deer yet. I generally recommend to players that they follow a progression of creatures. WHen one creature becomes easy to beat in armor and with NO weapon then move on to the next. WHen trying a new creature try with a weapon and lots of healing. It is also advisable to bring a friend along if you can so they can save your bag if you die. rabbit < rat < beaver < deer < green snake/fox < brown snake/boar < wolf < goblin < small gargoyle etc etc. I leave out red snakes as they are poisonous and skeletons as they are generally poor training. Good luck and we look forward to seeing you in these Eternal Lands.

This is getting out of hand. I posted originally with the intent to try and keep newbies from getting scammed. That's one of the reasons why this forum is here. Let me be clear that I did not take the time to verify conclusively the information I received. I did NOT post here so that people could harass rely because they think she's a scammer. IF and I do mean IF she scammed then it probably won't happen again. So, that said, let it drop and don't harass rely. As for me, I didn't previously understand the impact a posting here could have on a player. If I've posted here at all before it was because I was certain of a scammer. So any undue trauma I caused you rely, I apologize. And to the rest of you, don't be petty about it. Just go play. and apparently it wasnt "nuff said" >.>
  6. relyt1slayer -scammer-

I don't post in the forums as a mod. Nor do I ever really intend to. I'm not an official entity in the forums, I just open my mouth as I see fit. So if Rely isn't a scammer the mistake is mine for believing what transpired below. No I didn't get source chat logs from the accuser. No I didn't attempt to get chat logs from rely who was not on at the time. This is the outlaws forum not a court of law and not involving in game punishment. I tend to think of it more as a sort of civil court with a much lower burden of proof. That said, yes, accusations do impact players so if I was wrong then I apologize to rely. Based on what I know, I don't 'think' the player who named rely was intentionally trying to scam by selling f9 fire in channel 3. As the player is fairly new i've deleted the name from the following log. If I was lied to then it's my fault for passing on the information without verification and not the player's fault for lying to me. Here's the most relevant stuff from my log - minus gm's mod chats, help requests, locals, 3 channels, and pm's with 3 others giving help. [ @ 3]: i can give u a spell 2 make fire at the touch of a button pm me 2 buy or 2 find out more [PM to : what's this spell?] [PM from : press f9 but i was told i needed it activated] [PM to : somebody sold you this? who] [PM from : this guy was on the other night nd he sold it to me his name was relyt1slayer] [PM to : for how much?] [PM to : f9 is just a particle test it doesn't do anything] [PM from : o ] edit: silly typo edit2: added 1 paragraph

Most likely this is due to a known issue with windows. I don't recall all the details. However, try alt-tabbing to change window focus and you should not have that problem.
  9. The Cooldown Bitch Thread

I have to admit that sometimes I find it to be a wholly frustrating excercise to read through the forums. I'm quite sure that there are players out there who have reasonable and considered opinions on cooldown that should be heard. The problem is that such players don't necessarily feel as if they have the freedom to post because 'negative posting' has been wholly ruined by people whose only aim is to bitch. I've a few things to add and I'll state right now that I'm not interested in straw men, ad hom attacks and the like. Regarding 'negative posting': There are ways and then there are ways. If your boss implements a policy you don't like are you going to put a post on the bulleten board in the break room about how the boss has ruined everything? I should hope not, and not just because you could get disciplined. You see, it goes far beyond the punishment. Do you not see something inherently wrong about such a methodology? The title of this thread states it all. This thread wasn't created for some lofty ideal about finding ways to adjust to cooldown. It wasn't created to help other players learn how to deal with it. It wasn't even created to highlight potiential problems and pitfalls of the cooldown implementation. No, it was created to bitch; to complain; to vent with no productive or constructive outcome. Think about your life and how you've dealt with problems. Think of all the times you bitched to your parents, to your grandparents, to you teachers, to your bosses, to your friends. Conflict resolution, forensics, and rational thought seem to have gone out the window. Now that you've thought about it, how many times has bitching really, truly resulted in a win-win situation? How many times has bitching helped the situation? I'd wager that's a low percentage; lower than the success at recommended level. Bitching is not the way to solve a problem. And in my book taking off and running away doesn't solve the problem either. The Eric Cartman philosophy of, "Screw you guys. I'm going home," isn't the stuff of championship trophies and noteworthy accomplishments. So, Mr. Chance, all I see is you bitching about people bitching. You hypocrite, you. Well, not really. There is an alternative to non-constructive bitching and to running away from the problem. Instead of being reactionary; instead of contributing to the problem; instead of doing nothing, why not look at the bigger picture; why not make constructive suggestions; why not take positive action? Huh? We are by nature resistant to change. That's just how it is. When food was implemented, there was a riot. When items started taking more than 1 second to make, there was a riot. When harvest events were implemented, there was a riot. When cooldown was implemented there was a riot. There is a bigger picture to this, though, and that is balanced gameplay. My understanding is that cooldown is part of a larger plan to help balance gameplay. How many of you people who've been complaining have complained about how fighters are too unbalanced. There are tons of fighters with 100+ a/d. I know of one person with 100+ harv. There are probably people with 100+ alch. But if anybody is even close to 100 in manu, crafting or summoning, then I'll be supremely surprised. Doesn't that strike you as an inherent imbalance in gameplay? 30+ levels between the highest fighters and the next highest skill? It strikes me as a bit of an imbalance. Cooldown is part of a larger attempt to address that imbalance. Let's not be reactionary. We don't necessarily have to embrace change, but let's give it a chance. Change comes whether we like it or not; in game and in life. You stop adapting; you stop changing and you get left behind. So change happens. Wtf can we do about it? I mean if we say something negative then we r teh bant, right? Not really. There are ways and then there are ways. If you want to bitch, then bitch. But live by the consequences. There is an inherent moral wrongness in bitching for bitching's sake and as you sow so shall you reap. If you'd like to actually make a difference, why not do something constructive? Sit down and chart out the time differential for making essences, bars, potions. Document the affect cooldown has on fighting, on pking, on summoning. Share your information with others. Put it down and concretly, substantively make the case that all cooldown does is inconvenience players and make everything harder. Can't be bothered? Fine, I understand, but just think of how cool it would be if you could tell that university you're applying to that you conducted an economic survey and study of a multi-layered economy that demonstrated emprically how economic regulations and restrictions negatively impacted the economy and the social structure of the community? Not only that, your presentation to the regulatory board influenced their decision to adjust the regulations and restrictions in favor of your position. Yea, yea, it's far fetched but there ARE two sides to every coin. Sometimes more. The world is as we perceive it and the world is as we make it. If you're going to be crabby and bitchy, it's beyond me why you would take offense when the world is crabby and bitchy back at you. Make some constuctive suggestions. Maybe, just maybe, making your case without the negative attitude might elicit a more positive response. Okay, I've read your inconceivably long post, Chance. How much longer is this crap gonna last? When something happens we react to it. From the alarm going off in the morning, to the light turning green, to a problem at work or school, to somebody saying hello, to somebody messing with our fun, we react to it all. The question is how? There, my friend, the onus is upon you. The responsibility and the action itself is all up to you. You can press the snooze button, you can ignore the green light... You can react all along a range from negative to positive, but the choice is yours. With cooldown in effect, people have reacted in many different ways. The newbies haven't seen much of a difference, all they know is cooldown. Some people have been upset and have expressed their discontent. Some people have simply not done much because of the cooldown. And some have chosen to find new methods and techniques for approaching the game. I don't know about you, but part of the reason I play Eternal Lands is because of the challenge it presents. While I no longer have the time nor the inclination to have 6-8 skills in the top 20, I still do occasionally actually play. EL is not and has never been a purely physical, purely adrenaline based game. If you're looking for a shoot-em-up, you'll only find a gnome at the bottom of this barrel. Part of the beauty of the game is the nuance, the mental aspect that it presents. I've played some of the other mmorpg's out there. To be frank, I quickly tired of the mindless killing they presented me with. Find some people to work with. Find new ways to do old tasks. Explore new skills. Stockpile goods and materials. But do something. If you do enjoy the game, use your time productively - use your time positively. Why not contribute to the game instead of taking knocks at the people who labored before and after their 'real jobs' to bring you a game that is unique in many ways. Do you honestly think that anybody wants to listen to bitching after a 15 hour day? The devs are the same people who endured bitching when they tried to stop cheaters with harvest events. They're the same people who endured bitching when they tried to adjust an economy run amok and th.. well the list goes on... Be positive. Be nice. Be constructive. Be productive. So, go ahead and put up that negative posting about your draconian boss and how s/he's screwed everything up with his/her new policy. But if that boss pats you on the back I'd suggest looking for a "kick me" sign because rude behavior doesn't usually elicit a positive response. That said, it IS the players who make up the Eternal community. The players heal at beam. The players dispense knowledge and answer price checks. The players brought us all many events and even game features. I'm a player too. I'm not writing this as a mod. I don't play this game to be a mod, I don't mod to mod. A while back, there were serious problems in channels and in local with behavior. There were people who were joining the game and had nobody to help them learn the ropes. Why? Because there weren't enough helpful people on at the time of day when I played most often. wtf should you care about that? Well, instead of bitching, I did something. I took it upon myself to do something constructive and positive. I chastised the troublemakers and documented the problems. I helped out and encouraged others to do so. And after a time, there were other players who stepped in and did likewise. Make no mistake about it, as tenous as our connections may be, we are a community. We are more than just an aggregate of people pecking away at our keyboards and mice. If we can't hold it together here and make things work in a world where race and torture and terrorism and poverty don't matter and largely don't exist, how can we make things work in the real world?
  10. A game of Chance

I'm starting a series of 'different' contests. They will be held occasionally and will be well... different. I noticed I have a distinct lack of a forum avatar. Contest: I feel all like left out n such. Therefore, make me happy and whip up a nifty avatar for me. Prize: Minimum prize for a submission that I choose to use will be a full plate set. If there are no submissions that I deem most excellent enough to use then sorry, I'll spread out some lesser prizes to those with nice submissions. Guidelines: Don't violate any copyrights or in game/forum rules. Otherwise it's more or less a free-for-all. Submissions: As I will be largely absent for a minimum of 1 week, please hold your submissions. Please send me a SHORT forum pm stating that you are entering. I will get back to you as time permits.
  11. A game of Chance

Hey folks, sorry about the huge delay. I was offline longer than expected and then I binged on playing instead of taking care of this. So without further ado Mori Ranmaru gets some stuff Kendai gets full plate for hisHER scrolly, spinny avatar Chronic gets some sort of customized prize for his submissions Cedox may yet get full plate if his avatar loops the animation a bit better. PM me in game or in forum and we'll arrange delivery and/or specifics. Thanks guys and gals. oh and... Shivar gets this
  12. demin_1 is banned for ever

Demin, I believe Placid asked you to stop spamming the forums and to be patient. If you are having difficulty doing that, I'm not entirely sure you'll be able to mind all the rules of the game. You've demonstrated the ability to copy/paste the rules, but as Vanyel asked, do you know specifically which of those you've broken? Speak directly to what it is got you banned. Tell why you've broken them. Tell what you will do to address this problem. What will you do to obey the rules from now on? It is not enough to merely state 'i will be a good boy'.
  13. Pre update tests

Entrance to 'secret beach' isn't working. I get the door icon but I clicking does nothing and 'using' does nothing. edit: The door isnt working either. I have to beam out

  19. time

Game time is not equal to real time. The hours are off slightly so you will occasionally get them synched up but that will be only for a very short while.
  20. 1.0.2 chat logging

I'm pleading complete ignorance due to my well... ignorance but a few questions: Are the mult-chat channels all logged to a single chat log or multiple logs? If they are logged to a single file, are the different channels differentiated in any way so that one could read the log coherently? This is mostly out of curiousity as I figure somebody's considered the sticky morass that would come of local, ch1 and ch3 chats all jumbled together. Just in case though, I thought I'd bring it up and ask.
  21. When casting remote heal: When 'using' the target, if the target is out of range, I'm getting Spell Failed! instead of Target out of range.
  22. o.O

Just something neat I thought I'd post:
  23. recyncing client

I didn't have time for proper testing but I believe the issue to be the athlon64. I recently built a athlon64 3.4 with a gf5600 1gig ram. It performed relatively poorly on every operating system I tried. It works superbly with other things even when running GL.
  24. Bugs On Maps

Nordcarn 128, 81 walkable hole under barrel
  25. mods online

As I mentioned to you at the time, nobody was around and I had been at the computer for a very short time when you PM'd me regarding your contest. We do try to take care of requests, but there are simply going to be times when nobody is around. We are attempting to address that as best we can and can only ask for your understanding if requests are not immediately answered.
