  1. New Comp, although no results on EL

Might try the omega drivers. There's a post pinned to this forum. Also you can edit your el.ini to kill all the eye candy. It could be a particle problem or something. Hard to say offhand but if the machine runs well, it could have to do with GL and how ATI deals with it. The omega drivers and killing all the eye candy may help. There's help in various posts in this forum regarding that.
  2. A Tale of Vermor Castle

Okay, I've read this all through and it does sound like a promising work. I'm familiar with Eddings' work and can see bits and pieces of the influence of some of the modern fantasy classics. As a general idea it works quite well. It will require some editing for detail and consistency fixes. And I have some concerns about the later plot points. Atm I'm at a loss for explaining the coming together of Jarrett and Adrian. This does not seem to be in the character makeup of Jarrett. I think such a large character arc would be beyond the scope of a very short story. Also I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to consistently match the writing style. If that becomes the case that would require a full re-write versus editing. In either case it will take quite a bit of mulling and planning. If you have any thoughts or suggestions on this I'd certainly welcome them. As of now I'm not yet committed to working on this but it does provide a good basis for a story.
  3. Invisible spots in WSC

If you would be so kind as to post coordinates it would be of help
  4. Er, some guy's scamming?

It's possible the guy is trying to create a character with a hair color that isn't working. A fix will be implemented when it is ready. If that is the problem, changing the character appearance will fix the Invalid Character error.
  5. PRE RC bugs

nor does it happen at raven also: glacmor cave map: it happens in the glacmor school and the areas with the flower shop and general store. it does NOT happen in the glacmor mining cave or in the little hidden orc place
  6. PkG recruiting

Is there something about Derin's post that you did not understand, Atlantis? If so, I'll attempt to make it clear that your off topic posts are unnecessary and unwanted. Further, the flame-y nature of this particular post is uncalled for. This is the second warning in just this thread.
  7. Problems.

The above statement is the one that counts. If you would like to do this then by all means feel free to do so and follow the game rules. Please don't continue the thread once the decision has been made. It wastes your time and it wastes our time. If you wish to start a new character and play as a rule abiding citizen, I look forward to seeing you in game.
  8. Dream Quest Bug

As far as I know the quest is working properly. I've heard no substantiated and confirmed reports of the quest not working. If I'm correct, the quest itself has not been changed for quite some time (over 6 months.) Be sure that you're using the 'pointy finger icon' and that you really do have the right flower.
  9. More MMORPG please

We have rings, you can walk, and there's the occasional teleportal shortcut. Anything else becomes too easy. Why... ahhmmm WAYPOINT System.. This is only a way to manage Waypoints. Not to get Faster from one place to another one. I have posted an Image to make clear what i have in mind. levon, My question to you is this: Why do you think we need to be able to program waypoints from point A to B to C to D etc.? Generally speaking we travel from point A to point B. We're going someplace and it's very simple to click on the destination as opposed to having to click 5 different areas. If you would like this for exploring, or for hunting, I would suggest that those are intended to require some work. If you have a novel and compelling reason that waypoints should be in the game, I'm sure that the developers will consider the idea. However, simply saying that you want them is not a compelling reason. And please keep in mind the points that others such as DustPuppy made. I also suspect that we're dealing with a language issue. Waypoints are commonly referred to as spots along a planned route of travel. In order to get to spot F, you plan a route through spots B, C, D, and E. And spots B, C, D, and E are your waypoints (with F also often being called a waypoint.) If you're suggesting that we have a way to mark a destination and easily travel back to that destination, map markers have been in game for some time. You can create a map mark by right clicking on the map and entering a description. A green X with the name will appear on your map and you can left click on that spot to walk there again. (You can also use #mark name) This system is very intuitive for the end user as it only requires the user to click exactly where he or she wants to go. Having a list on the side of the map would be handly for sorting names but it would be very difficult to easily see the spot each 'waypoint' marks. There are also design and programming issues involved in such a feature. If this is the case, I'd suggest you try out the map markers. (you can get more information in the newbie channel #jc 1 and then @message to talk) They really do allow for a straightforward marking of map spots.
  10. Click and Hold movement

I'm not referring to WoW, I've never played it nor own it. The point was actually more that the concept has been discussed and actually has been discussed VERY recently. You'll notice that the suggestions forum rules state in red that you should Read before posting! This is not to say that there is something horrible about your idea or other ideas that have been suggested many times. This IS to say that suggesting something a dozen times does not mean that it will be implemented. The developers are busy people who work as volunteers. The more time they spend weeding through repetitive suggestions the less time they have to actually make the game that we all play. Also, the rules, both in forum and in game were written with a purpose. Please ensure that you take time to read them. Thanks for the interest in making a suggestion, just try to work within the system so that you don't end up wasting your time and the time of others.
  11. Rules window scrolling

    Thanks
  12. El Lottery

I'll go to Roanof and pray for luck
  13. Bot SPAM

It is a valid concern that newbies without good knowledge end up on irilion. Every couple weeks I hear about one related to bots. I think though that such a circumstance points more directly to our failure as a community to educate the budding populace. I've not followed the encyclopedia updates, but that's one place for such information. Also ch 1 et al where that warning is given out regularly by players. Regarding irilion bots posting only in 24, we should keep in mind that 24 is not an official channel and that excluding the bots from ch 3 would limit their exposure and put them at a competitive disadvantage. I think though, that some sort of disclaimer in the returns for "loc" might help with that issue.
  14. Problems

As a further note and caution: If you are trying to blow out a fan, be sure that you set a finger on the fan and keep it from spinning. The high velocity of compressed air can actually damage some fans.
  15. Rules window scrolling

On a related note, we have a similar issue with the 'other' rule screen, the one that requires a player read the rules and click on agree. This screen i believe is used when creating a character, when launching the client for the first time, and when a warning is sent by a moderator. I do not know if it is based on the same code that the F5 rule window is. The text size used in this window is larger than in the F5 window and accordingly even more of the rule is chopped off. (aislinn nb) Either way, if somebody could look at that one as well, it would be very much appreciated.
  16. Alch, Pot, Manu Shop :D

This is the marketplace forum. This is not a flame forum. edit: erased a sentence
  17. Bot SPAM

@ darelik - I have been considering this issue for a while myself and I'm very glad to see that I was right that bot owners take a sense of ownership over the responsibilities and powers that they have. Thank you for injecting what I consider to be a thoughtful, respectful, and proactive tone to the discussion. @ all - I have held off posting here for several reasons, not the least of which is that I am a mod and did not want to colour the talks even if it was through unofficial statements. As the talks have taken a dramatic turn towards the productive, I'll weigh in just a small bit - unofficially. And wholly without a well thought out structure. I think that the main issue at hand is the 'appearance of spam.' There have been several possible solutions proposed. I feel that a solution in which every side has ownership is the best of all worlds. I feel very strongly that bots should be able to post items for sale and prices. The reasons were stated clearly already by others. I also feel, though less strongly, that bots should be allowed to have 'some' extraneous content in their ads. As a player, the last thing I want to do is be confronted by unfeeling and cold bots. I don't think there's much wrong with lively advertising. I do, however, admit that some of the ads are deafeningly repetitive and somewhat creepy. I think that perhaps ads that are slightly more dynamic would alter that perception for me and for others. I feel that bot posts based on a rand upon startup and a rand after the game minute are a positive step to ensure that multiple bots do not post on top of each other on any given game minute. I feel that a bot owner subforum here could be a good thing. You're all already members here and there's little need to set up a dedicated new forum. Also, I feel that if you were to create a dedicated forum elsewhere that it may create negative perceptions in the player community. The net age is, after all, the age of the conspiracy theory. Most of all, I feel very happy that the de facto representatives from the two sides have intelligently come together to make some headway in addressing the issue. Kudos. I think that there are lessons to be learned from the discussion that extend beyond merely the issues at hand and I hope that we'll all take ownership of those lessons.
  18. Can't connect to server. [CLOSED]

I don't recall offhand if this is in Windows XP Home but try start menu > run > msinfo32 most newer machines will have all that info there. There are lots of other ways but that's a simple way of grabbing that information. Regarding the "Can't resolve server address." message, that means that your client is unable to even tell where it has to send messages to. There could be a few reasons for this but I need some sleep so: you can try editing your el.ini file to point directly to the server address. Change #server_address = game.eternal-lands.com to #server_address = 62.93.225.47 It may or may not help depending upon what the specific issue is. If it does not help, change the address back to game.eternal-lands.com so you don't end up with a non-standard configuration while trying to troubleshoot.
  19. Modified clients

The Raven/WS storage dot has been in the right place for quite a long time now.
  20. Need some help on the test server

I can understand how Ent's statement might come across as blunt to some. Please do try to understand though that he just finished spending hours upon hours working, toiling, and travailing to program and implement a feature for US. He's extremely busy and what he needs right now are people who can show up and immediately start testing. It's a bit unfair to ask Entropy to have to now spend time trying to get people onto the test server; to spend time explaining the differences to each player; to then try to get all those people back onto the main server. He's already done quite a lot and all that time, effort and energy takes away from him being able to test efficiently and effectively. It also would significantly slow down the development process which means that we get less updates. I humbly ask you to consider taking this as an opportunity to learn about the test server from players you know and from the forums here. Take some time to go over there and come back so that when you have the opportunity to help test something you can be one of the players who can hop onto the test server and help test. Help the testing go smoothly and everybody will benefit and be thankful
  21. Max Health Not Achived

That's a mighty big screenie, next time you can chop off the right side what does the stats screen say ie ctrl-a and does it only happen at votd storage? as in, if you leave the area of storage does it fix itself? If you enter a building or change map does it fix itself? Is it right before you enter the votd map? is it right before you get near molgor? is it right before you talk to molgor?
  22. Preparing for the server change

Your connection to the server has no bearing on your FPS. You can be disconnected from the server and render the game just fine. I would look towards a local issue on your computer with regards to FPS variability. The internet is not a perfect creation. It is in a sense a living thing and it changes over time and from moment to moment. At the same time, there can be chronic issues. For example, when I experience extreme lag and packet loss (lost data) with the EL server, the most common culprit is routers run by above.net and not the EL server. The problem may not lie with your actual connection to your ISP. However, the problem also does not lie with the Eternal Lands server and its connection to the internet. 'The truth lies somewhere in between,' in the path the traffic takes between you and the server.
  23. multiple players/comps on same isp

Please post no more replies to this thread. It will be addressed by a moderator or administrator. Thank you.
  24. Animals

As a note, some players don't read the hints and do not realize that to speak in a chat channel they need to use the @ symbol before their message. Simply typing in your statement and hitting enter sends only to local chat which for help questions is often not productive depending upon where you are. So, you can use the command #jc 1 to ensure that you are in the newbie help channel and then use @ before your message to speak in channel - like @hi
