  1. ELF4P*4 ?

Well, this thread is ready to take over.Just missing a "SOLVED"poster. Thanks to buap and, all the people who share here her knowledge. A few conclusions, in order to simplify : 1) People with 586 (or older) cpus could not run the el.x86.linux.bin binary (because "-march=686" flag) 2) This people need to compile elc from CVS 3) The glext.h provided inside the proprietary NVidia legacy driver (an many others old drivers, surely) prevents compilation. 4) Such people need (at his own risk) to replace (at least for the compilation time) this file for the last glext.h (download it from http://www.opengl.org/registry/api/glext.h )
  2. ELF4P*4 ?

I apologize for the delay in responding, and for my poor English too .. You were quite right again bluap ! the -march=686 flag was the problem. I needed a lot of libraries (.dev packages), and was also necessary to make a dangerous "trap" (change the glext.h of may proprietary driver for one new) but I have now my running and, 10mb flat (not yet striped), el.x86.linux bin !! I am truly grateful for his always excellent recommendations >>>Have you run EL on this machine before using Linux? No yet (now yes). This is a amdK6-2 500mhz cpu w/384mb ram and TNT2 PCI w/32mb. In the 1.4x times I run EL over Win$98, because my Mandrake 9.1 , fully functional for another works, and your listdc++5x. Now Elc 150 refuse run over both OS .EL was not the only problem but the last (for ex., I was running Blender 2.45 over win$ and 2.25 over Mandrake...) First I failed upgrade to Mandriva 2008 (I think because ram requirements) and then I installed Ubuntu .I have now a lot of problems (legacy driver seems not work fine..) but, with your help I can play EL
  3. ELF4P*4 ?

    The first thing I thought was about permision, owners an groups, but I think there are not problems .Nevertheless there are the outputs required : 1.eleuterio@eleuteria:~$ uname -a Linux eleuteria 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Tue Dec 18 08:02:57 UTC 2007 i586 GNU/Linux 2.eleuterio@eleuteria:~$ id uid=1000(eleuterio) gid=1000(eleuterio) grupos=4(adm),20(dialout),24(cdrom),25(floppy),27(sudo),29(audio),30(dip),44(video),46(plugdev),104(scanner),108(lpadmin),109(admin),115(netdev),118(powerdev),1000(eleuterio) 3.eleuterio@eleuteria:~$ id eleuterio uid=1000(eleuterio) gid=1000(eleuterio) grupos=1000(eleuterio),4(adm),20(dialout),24(cdrom),25(floppy),27(sudo),29(audio),30(dip),44(video),46(plugdev),104(scanner),108(lpadmin),109(admin),115(netdev),118(powerdev) 4.eleuterio@eleuteria:~$ ls -ld /home/eleuterio/.elc/ drwxr-xr-x 2 eleuterio eleuterio 4096 2007-12-26 14:53 /home/eleuterio/.elc/ 5.eleuterio@eleuteria:~$ ls -ld /home/eleuterio/elc-150/ drwxr-xr-x 16 eleuterio eleuterio 4096 2007-11-25 19:09 /home/eleuterio/elc-150/ I allways run ./el.x86.linux.bin from /elc-150 folder See you any problem here ? TIA

Thanks bluap (and sorry)you're right! But now, when I do ./el.x86.linux.bin, the only output is : "Instrucción ilegal ( core dumped)" and no log in ./elc/error_log.txt The gdb output is : ............................................... This GDB was configured as "i486-linux-gnu" Using host libthread_db library "/lib/libthread_db.so.1". (gdb) run Starting program: /home/eleuterio/elc-150/el.x86.linux.bin [Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled] [New Thread -1221081376 (LWP 6455)] Program received signal SIGILL, Illegal instruction. [switching to Thread -1221081376 (LWP 6455)] 0x080860f2 in open_log () (gdb) continue Continuing. Program terminated with signal SIGILL, Illegal instruction. The program no longer exists. 7. Win9x users kicked out ?

[i apologize inconveniences, it's a automatic translation with little human work, because my poor English] My first post was also a provocation. This is the reason for this long delay. I wait to read many post that confirm the big number of 9x users. I think it is time to try an answer. THE PIPER put two posts here :in the first, in his arrogant ignorance (of rich child?), he said : "you posted your solution already:..". A true nonsense !!! I do not answer this. When another people clarifies the situation, in his second post, arbitrarily defined his interlocutors at convenience, and write a lot of lines who answer.....nothing.. Entropy, the official word from EL (i think) ,give me this solution: ...probe edubuntu . Good, i can not play (properly play) the game over x11 with 128mb ram and 500mhz micro ..i do many probes... i do not open any Window manager, only a simple x window with only a console (xinit)...I open another text virtual terminal, run top and kill a lot of processes , but... There are not for me another solution than win$9x (perhaps because my ignorance?)...i sorry... i love linux and free software too.... The second Entropy post is specifically, strict:..."we do not have the resources to make another Win98 branch to support Win98 users..." and sugest we do the work But...RESOURCES ??? ...I'm not a developer, i have not a cross compiler system installed; I have, not enought knowlledge for do this work, but I think this is simple for the developer team....but if you want, you can read the solution give at the same problem for the LyX team(..to at least fire up under Win98), about two years ago: http://www.mail-archive.com/lyx-devel@list...g/msg81176.html There is another valid possibility. In this hypothesis you thik: I want to kick off all this sptupid people who have't enought money for new hardware!...I hate poor and 3world's men!...This is our company (capitalist) policy!!... You can justific: ...free means free for freedom, not free for money...blah, blah, blah...(is good for this forget the original "free highways..." RHS reference example...) Well...Is this your thought?...you have rights... but be honest whit us please!! TIA
  8. Update issues

(i apologize my poor English ) I played the 1.4.0 version Win Client, with no problem, over a win 98 old machine. Now i can't start the 1.5.0 client. because the shell32.dll:SHGetFolderPathA call error. I think the solution is not a big trouble for the game developers (a win 9x patch) Since i had not rights for post here, my guild master put my post in this link http://www.eternal-lands.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=38829 TIA
