  1. Help crash the test server

Correct - the drought dialog from Latis was definitely not there when I tried the wine quest for the second time (after server crash). The thermonuclear dialog may have been there - I was saying it didn't stand out in my memory. I wasn't specifically looking for it the way I was looking for the drought option (the second time I undertook the wine quest). I still think I would have remembered seeing that option if it were there, but I could be wrong. When you asked specifically about the thermonuclear dialog, I went back to try the wine quest a third time and got neither drought dialog from Latis nor thermonuclear dialog from Bais. In trying the quest again today, I think I can see why the drought dialog isn't coming up from Latis - the debt dialog that prompts it from Bais isn't coming up at all. I get the original quest prompt from Latis, I get the prompt from Nyeald, then get no prompt from Bais.
  2. Help crash the test server

In all honesty, I don't remember seeing it the other day, and I think something like that would have stood out in my memory (especially since I would have expected it from Morumi). I went to double-check on this today and got no prompt either at Bais', PL library, or from Morumi.
  3. Help crash the test server

I'm not able to complete the wine quest this time - I'm not getting the prompt from Latis about the drought. The non-disappearance of the 'Portland' dialog that I reported last night is still happening (I wasn't sure from your earlier post whether this was one of the things that was addressed or not). Other than that, I haven't noticed anything odd. Let me know when you want me to have another go at it
  4. The Golden Ratio

The Golden Rectangle is a rectangle made from the Golden Ratio
  5. Help crash the test server

I finished the wine quest with no crash - even took little detours to get the required items for the quest. One peculiarity I noticed was when running through the dialog from Bais, the 'Portland' topic wouldn't disappear after clicking on it, like all the others did. I tried this a couple of times and the behavior was consistent. I didn't have the same problem getting into Portland storage that I had the other night. I went and beat up on the Wraith for a little while, tried some stuff I didn't try the other day, no results. Is there anything else you might recommend for me to try?
  6. The Golden Ratio

1.6180339887498948482 is quite approximate, considering the decimal values for this number go on forever Too cool! I'd never heard of Uncyclopedia before - Mr. T and the Golden Ratio, roflmao
  7. The Golden Ratio

What I find most interesting about the Golden Ratio is its prevalence in Nature. The Wikipedia article you linked to discusses how this number figures in a local sense with Nature ... you might also find it interesting to know that this number pops up even at the cosmological level, in the thermodynamics of Kerr black holes for example, making it a rather singular number, indeed If you're interested in a little further reading, I recommend giving this a shot, paying particular attention to pages 26 - 28. It's the 2003 annual report from the Space Telescope Science Institute, in .pdf format. Mugwump: I never knew the name of Drake's ship was the Golden Hind
  8. Help crash the test server

I created a new character (Gormpf) on the test server and went through the memory and Wraith quests with no problems. I also tried everything I could with the Wraith, even resorting to trying to make him respond to me out of range, again with no result. Later tonight I'll log back in with the character I used last night on the wine quest and see what happens. I don't know if it will be of any consequence, but just before the server kicked me out last night, I was in Portland, on my way from the mayor to PL storage, and was having trouble entering the building. When I tried clicking on the roof (because of where the camera was turned), it didn't respond. I was in the process of panning back around to click on the door when I got kicked.
  9. If EL were RL.....

If EL were RL, then the danger and excitement of picking flowers for your sweetheart would show true affection
  10. The Golden Ratio

Just to clarify - are you talking about the Golden Mean (in your title), or the Golden Ratio (what you linked to)? Mind-blowing, indeed, which ever one Thanks for the link and the food for thought
  11. Active Hyperbag "Treasure Hunts"

Very cool, Tordek - I never actually knew the history behind this volatile topic (or the origin of storage, for that matter) until this morning - thanks for the illumination
  12. Active Hyperbag "Treasure Hunts"

I see going after someone's mining bag somewhat more closely related to bag jumping than raiding hyperbags, since again it's taking advantage of someone else's misfortune. However, when I set a bag down for mining or harvesting cotton or whatnot, I do so with the understanding that I might lose what goes into that bag - if I do, I don't raise hell about it. I usually don't put anything into a bag that I can't harvest or make again. It doesn't mean I'm happy about losing stuff, and it doesn't mean I feel like it's okay to go snatch other peoples' bags - it just means I understand that this is a risky part of how the game works. Your question about choosing what goes into a deathbag is an interesting one. Ultimately, I guess we do choose what goes into db's - this is part of the reason why I don't run around with stuff I can't regain with relative ease. At the same time, though, this level of choice is still much less direct than actually putting stuff in a hyperbag or mining bag, and doesn't negate the difference I pointed out about the taking advantage of someone's rotten luck.
  13. Active Hyperbag "Treasure Hunts"

LOL - if you read an attempt at justification either in my posts in this thread, or in the lines I quoted from Learner, then you should really go back and re-read a bit.
  14. Active Hyperbag "Treasure Hunts"

I've also read (quoted below) that once you put something in a bag, it's no longer 'yours' - stealing isn't just taking something that doesn't belong to you, it's taking something that belongs to someone else. If the bag doesn't technically (by the rules, not by community values or common sense) belong to anyone, then it's harder to claim theft. One reason why I see a difference between hyperbags and deathbags is because with hyperbags, you choose what you put in them - you choose to take a risk, and choose what you risk. *edited to fix quote
  15. Active Hyperbag "Treasure Hunts"

I voted 'no'. To me, bag jumping is not merely taking a bag that doesn't belong to you, otherwise anyone cleaning up bones on IP would be a bag jumper. The way I see it, bag jumping involves taking advantage of someone else's misfortune and I just don't see this being the case with bags that people deliberately leave as a matter of convenience. This doesn't mean I see raiding around for these bags as 'right', it just means I don't see it in the same light as bag jumping. It's like stealing a bicycle that's simply been hidden from public view, versus waiting around for someone to get hit by a bus so you can snatch whatever might fall off. Neither appeals to me, but I can say that I do find one to be worse than the other.
