  1. Big Bang and Black Holes

Either the one or the other...unless you think ID is a scientific theory; well it isnt, there are no experiments to even suggest it. On the other hand there are zillions of simulations showing the arising of complex "being" from simple parts. Dont be fooled, ID is a subtle way to put god back in science, but since you cant name it anymore, just call it "intelligent designer"... A scientist can be defeated by the refusal of his theory, but even if he can be really sad and depressed about, he will never defend his theory with other weapons than logic and facts. Oh, and the refusal must be done with the same weapons or else it is not a refusal, just nonsense. First: origin of life and evolution are two different fields. If you accept micro evolution you have to accept macro evolution, they are aspects of the same process from a differently sized point of view. Second: random chance or not? let's put aside for a moment the random chance (which is indeed not only the reason of why life exists, but also of why it is still existing) and consider the "not". Why you have to introduce an ID? It is needed (to non scientists) to explain how it is possible for organic molecules to form a system that can reproduce itself (and this need is not logical at all). Well, studying such molecules (instead of stop thinking about them thanks to the ID), you find that their structure is perfectly shaped for such performances and that they can be created step by step from inorganic molecules. To be clearer, DNA is as such not for the magic hand of an ID willing to spread life on earth, but *simply* because that structure is able to resist and exploit the random events (chance, noise, variation as you wish) that inevitably happen.

  3. New Break Rate

that was since the update, before i didnt break almost nothing. However, i'm not complaining at all, just pointing out that the first solution proposed by Ent is quite good. Moreover, after the second greaves breakage (happened in 2 days of training) i started to use leather boots (ah, wisdom by trial and error...).
  4. New Break Rate

I trained 6 hours a day or more in the last 10 days, going through the 90's on fluffies and feroses and continued the trend after the update. After some time testing I tend to agree with Korrode. A reduction on the break rate of some high end items could be the best solution. Indeed low gear training forces a reduction of the time you can stay at a spawn and prevents people from moving to stronger mobs too soon. I broke since the update: 1 steal greaves, repaired, broke again and finally broke by HB 1 CoL, sold and rebought new 4 steel shields 12 aug pants 3 leather boots 1 steel chainmail oh, and i did a manu lvl EDIT: obviously NMT and skeptic
  5. Method to reduce crowdage at Storages

nah, a storage pet would be better
  6. New Break Rate

Sorry, maybe it is the unordinate amount of feroses i'm killing all the day, but i dont get why this would be bad. I posted the suggestion because, if before the breakage was virtually impossible now it seems a little too much. Well, then if you go fight a dragon, then you'll always break the armor, since the dragon does a LOT of damage. Ok. But chance doesnt need to be directly proportional to damage. I think an asymptotic function (as the one used in #pki i suppose) could do the job. here is an example of an arctan more or less centered around 5. Using this (only an example!) you have normal break rate for damage=5, no break rate for damage=0, max of 2.5x break rate for higher damages (by damage i mean the y of my previous post, damage filtered through toughness). You can play with the function using parameters (i.e. center, steepness, max break rate modifier) to adapt it to different armors. This way pvp isnt so safe anymore and also fast leveling with pro armor will be reduced, while the break rate for a "reasonable" use of the armor will still be acceptable. EDIT: mmm...criticals bypass armor, so no damage to gear? else criticals will break a lot too...
  7. New Break Rate

Sorry, maybe it is the unordinate amount of feroses i'm killing all the day, but i dont get why this would be bad. I posted the suggestion because, if before the breakage was virtually impossible now it seems a little too much. I meant this: - calculate the feros chance to hit me, if it cant i dodge and get my def xp - if hit scored, it will deal a blow for a potential damage of x (given by its might or whatever) - subtract from x a percentage of my toughness (since it helps the armor in stopping the damage) ---> y - y is damage to be absorbed by the armor and the one used to determine breakage. A yeti/cockatrice/dragon will break more than a feros and less than an ogre which is something wanted i guess (pointed out before by Korrode too) - subtract armor absorbed damage from y. If less than 0 I get def xp, else damage. This said, i wait for your statistics (obviously keep training )
  8. New Break Rate

and the chance of breakage is proportional to the damage (inflicted or absorbed) i suppose, right? if so it could be fairer to have the amount of damage used in the breakage calculation, reduced by toughness first or by a percentage of it. The energy of a hit is indeed dissipated in part by the armor and in part by the body.
  9. Sky Client Test #1

Oh yes, first person camera is a *little* low... here is my head position... ...and here is my gaze
  10. 1.6.0 Map Bugs

around 130,65 outside (by the south west bridge) as you can see i'm sitting over a "hole" between the river and the terrain, from which you can see underground.
  11. Big Bang and Black Holes

Who said they are mutually exclusive? Point is science doesnt require believing in it, you are free to believe something else tough. The "Holes" in science you speak about are all related to our condition of human beings, intelligent living systems trying to assign a cause and a finalism to every phenomenon they observe, expecially themselves. But those are not scientific questions, there are no experiments able to tell you why we are here and how are we supposed to behave. Not true. Everything reacts, even if extremely slow. Agree...until you use that BANG in a scientific reasoning. An pls note that the BANG saves you from answering a difficult (or impossible) question, but adds nothing to your knowledge of the world, since you dont have an experiment to show to others, just your beliefs. I could agree, but that "there has to be" is again an expression of the urge to answer a hard question, and has no force as an argument. Keep on learning, you will find lots of fields where the hand of a very ironic (or cruel) God can be spotted (thinking of chaotic systems, evolution...). Is a common mistake to think science has all proven...it is the contrary. As I said it is a collection of experiments from which you infere general laws...as you add a new experiment your global result is subject to change and rethinking, which i find one of the most beautiful and "honest" things about science. Last remark is, all the examples you cited were proved false in the very moment the church weakened, letting people be able discuss and negate Aristostele dogmas

    CALCULATOR too?
  13. Skybox discussion

Couple of issues again: pixelated sky: i get this from time to time, even at night. It lasts a couple of minutes and then goes back to normal. free camera: free camera can go underground. To reproduce this you have to place the camera almost at ground level and then move it with a fast mouse stroke. It also seems impossible to bring it back over the surface...i switch to first person and back. EDIT: ehm sorry, editing images EDIT2: k, done
  14. Big Bang and Black Holes

False. Science doesnt require believing. It's a collection of reproducible and controlled experiments from which you can infere general behaviours of systems, wrongly called laws. It answers the How, not the Why (which actually is not needed)...and to get an answer, always partial and temporary, requires lot of dedication and work. And this is the opposite of believing. And for the universe, why you need a "cause" or a "start" for it? Those are attributes peculiar of living beings, you are able to recognize them because they are useful; this doesnt imply the whole univers must have them. Actually there are consistent (with observations) physical theories without the need of time or causes as absolute entities. Enough babblings
  15. Skybox discussion

I''ve been testing the latest cvs for a while, here are some issues: - extended camera: ext camera and free camera have been merged. I find this a little weird to use because when you have to move the camera fast (pking, hunting...) you often end up moving it too much, it goes to the ground and, since it cant go under, it slides towards the char full zooming on it...can be quite annoying. Can we revert to an optional free camera and have a 90 degress lock otherwise? - right click camera moving: i understand the need of this option, but can it be optional too? right click is also used to change the cursor, and again it is annoying to have the camera turning when you try to attack something. Also it seems you turn yourself while rotating the camera this way...no need for alt+g grab mode shortcut then? - free camera: why it slides when hitting the ground? shouldnt it simply stop? - floating xp: it seems that floating xp is now fully 3d...feature or bug? it looks a bit weird to have a xp messages lookable from different angles keep on the awesome job! EDIT: ehm...just checked the cvs, and the auto zoom isnt there anymore
  16. The Kusamura Arena Showdown 1

oh, nice...i'll be there to defend the title
  17. Pets implementation

3 points: - about pet leveling, i'm all for mp idea. Remove pet exp stone (for fighter pet at least) and let them lvl by fighting in pk maps, reduce xp gained with food. - Can they summon for you given the ingrs? (clearly based on the owner summon lvl...) - Resummon and resurrection stones will be makable under summoning skill?
  18. #online command

I uploaded on Berlios a patch for a #online command. "#online xxx" gives you the list of players starting with xxx case insensitive "#online *xxx" gives you the list of players containing xxx case insensitive it works by downloading the player list (txt format) from the website. It can be set (reuse_time_online) to download it after n secs from last download. Commands issued in the meanwhile check old list. It contains the skeleton for an #about command (info on players from view_user.php), but i dont think we want so many access to the website and player db...
  19. - C2 portal The teleporting quartz are an awesome addition, but can we simply "use" them instead of stepping over? Indeed you cant click on them (or you start to harvest) and you can step on them by mistake when mapwalking. - Black Dragon Soon the Ice Dragon will roam the lands...can we frustrated summoners be able to summon the Black one?
  20. Couple of suggestions

ehm, sure. But regular teleports are at the edges of the map, difficult to mapwalk over them by accident (unless you use single click mapwalking and you expect it to work ), while quartz are just in the way to ida/anitora/egratia/hurquin.
  21. Storage Sale

catch you in game for tilongs.
  22. Search online players

Nice job. Inspired by it I checked the client code and discovered we already have functions to get files through http...any interest in a "#online xxx" command to be added directly into the client? If so i can start code it right now...
  23. Storage clean-up

    i'll take bears for 1500.
  24. Macintosh OS X client 1.6.0 bugs thread

Back to EL from a busy RL, did a fresh checkout and compiled with the flags shipped with the xcode project. i get this: camera clipping 1 camera clipping 2 It seems some wrong clipping happens (perspective 0.4, near plane 6.0, far plane 92.0) with both sky enabled or disabled. Clipping get worse with camera zoom: full zoom out is ok, full zoom in is black screen (actually with stars).
  25. New limited PK level maps/areas

ehm...i check kus arena every time i can (want to fight? pm me ). It's always empty, surely not because it's far from evtr/pv sto. I'm all for capped arenas, at least you have a place where you can test your skills and prepare for wars in KF/Theli
