I've had this happen to me as a human male. I found that if I used a staff, and then unequipped it and put on a shield, I would still fight like I was using a staff and the shield would do what ska described.

Don't make it take too long, I'd like a chance to get back to my death bag.

Thats right, thats your personal opinion (and mine too), but a lot of people couldn't be bothered with anything other than killing. Welcome to humanity. I agree that armor and weapons shouldn't be dropped often if at all. But books, capes, and serp stones are how a fighter earns a living. One thing is for sure, you're not gonna get far on the gold any of the monsters drop, BRs don't grow on trees.

Great idea, that way people who just wanna fight can't make any money.

Try Wizardry 8, the battles are lengthy and play out like chess, using a lot of strategy.

How about a spell that allows you to take damage to your ethereal points instead of material. For the duration of the spell all damage goes against your EP until either the spell ends or you run out of EP. I think it would add another tactical dimension to fighting.

First off, the spell would have a time limit, maybe 10-15 seconds. Secondly, maybe you should have experience fighting before posting a reply relating to it. There are several benefits and drawbacks to a spell such as this. Right now it is impossible to be an effective summoner or spellcaster (more EP than MP) versus other players. With this spell you would burn a lot more mind rests, but you might actually last 10 seconds against a normal fighter and do a little damage as opposed to 2 seconds and no damage. And as far as not killing anyone by damaging their mana goes, No mana = no restoration, so if you run them out of mind rests, their screwed. Like I said, another tactical dimension. Having additional options is always good.
