I leave for 24 hours and my sweet, quiet community breaks to all hell... 1. Leave Lone alone. He was posting because people came to him asking for help. He may run around killing everyone on the server, but he has done so while still gaining respect. He cares about the community and the server and is acting in its best interest. 2. OK, maybe there should have been a vote on who should be the law enforcers, but hell, we all probably would have voted these four anyway, the top fighters are really the only ones with the ability to do it, and (and this one I guarantee) there would be 200 people voting. Hmm... 3. Law enforcers are necessary. The fact that these four people (and I'm including bkc even if he doesn't want the position because I completely agree with Lone) have no special banning powers, IP checks, ability to send anyone anywhere is good. Which leads to point 4. 4. The only way these four people can have any power at all (other than running around beating people up which isn't sufficient IMO) is for the rest of the community to support them and agree to the punishment. This is not an oligarchy. This is a community with a small council advising and enforcing a few select laws that benefit the community (not the person). Let's not blow this out of proportion. The only power these four have is the power the community grants them out of a desire to benefit the community. Those who disagree with the choices are still free to act against the community but understand the risk involved unless they have a sufficient number of people supporting them. 5. This is our community and this is our section of the forum. If you aren't an active player on the PK server, quit flaming our threads. Non-EL players making comments about how EL sucks would have all of their posts deleted. Please have enough sense to realize that unless you belong, you don't belong. If you want to have a voice on our forum, first have an active character. I'm not directing this to anyone in particular, but I'm sick and tired of people who have a personal grudge against this server for whatever reason jumping in to comment about WHY they don't play this server. Some of the posts on the PK server forum amount to "Blah blah blah Runescape is better" posts. Can we please get back on topic now? Sounds right to me. I've found that if you want him to pick up the sword, you have to make sure he isn't overloaded, picks it up, and then attack him. This sometimes means killing him a couple times to make him drop those damn sticks (seriously, what's with the sticks?), trade him the armor and sword, then attack. They will usually equip everything then. Of course, when he dies he might drop it, so you have to trade again. Anyway, we probably shouldn't be equipping them with swords yet anyway since they are training. We need to them to get more experience. On a side note, I'm thinking Thor needs to change our guild description to something like: "Our top two players are getting bored and have decided to become entomologist as we wait for the rest of you to level. You can find us at the DP ant's nest. Professors Handyman and Lonewolfe will be holding classes on armor equipping and leather helm making."

I think the issue with ads isn't so much that we feel restricted, as it is that there isn't really anyone (bot, that is) to do it regularly. Personally, I haven't been to the main server since the update, so I haven't advertised there. Does anyone have a bot that can say something along the following once every couple of hours on channel 4?: "What if EL had no cooldown, was easier to level, and allowed multiple character play? What if you could find a free spawn on Sun Tzu? What if you could PK your enemy anywhere you wanted? I made it! I spend 100% of my EL life lately on the PK server, but I've been missing so many invasions. Finally, I get to play for an hour between work and other obligations and it just happens to be penguins in Sedicolis: one of my favorite creatures on one of my favorite maps. Mr.Hide is my favorite person of the month. \o/

I frequently have to do polls at work (Ok, school. It's not like it's a secret I'm a teacher), and I always ask kids to explain their reasons. Generally when I ask kids for a survey, I find I miss some perspective, and since the purpose is to gain perspective, written explanations fill in the blanks. In the end, what my kids write in the comments section generally weighs more heavily on me than just the strict stats.

How right you are. I remember this thread being one of the first I read when I started playing about a year ago.

Certainly a busy storage like Valley of the Dwarves needs restrictions on the main server, but could we get rid of it on the PK server? It is the primary spot for trading and chatting on both servers, but on this one, it would actually serve the community better if we can work while socializing. Thank you for considering this!

I'm confused too. I did complete reinstall (including maps) with the latest client. I even wiped my application support files except for my counters and spells, which means I should be using only the latest maps. Did I miss something? How aren't you falling through the ground?

Nice job, Atlantis, but I have one small concern. You seem to have the same issue that I have in that we both have a black sky. I'm wondering if we should wait on this until the sky test comes out for mac? I was going to make a video myself, but I'm waiting to get through this emo phase of the game . Maybe I'm being too picky.

I've had it with DC and the metro area. It's time to get out of here. I've told work that after June, I'm gone. Then I'm packing everything into storage, jumping in the Miata and leaving. Only here's the issue: I have no idea where I should move TO. Last summer I drove around the US for two months, and I have a feeling I'll probably end up doing that again just to get a feel of various cities/towns. Hopefully I'll land somewhere I fall in love with and decide to stay there. Really what I need from you all is this: Do you know of a vibrant, fun city or town with a strong art/music community that you would recommend? Places that I'm NOT considering for various reasons (already lived there, been there and hated, etc...) The South DC and Baltimore (obviously) New York L.A. Chicago Seattle Las Vegas Anywhere that gets below 20F Denver Some places I'm considering but would like to hear more about from people who've lived there: Boston Portland, OR San Francisco New Mexico Austin, TX Please post! I'd love to hear any recommendations.

I voted to keep BroDs out. However, I would hope even more that we don't get to the point that anyone would even need it since we're all walking around in our newb gear. I love that most people here still have to walk around in chain mail an augmented leathers. I really hope it stays like this for as long as possible. High-end armor/weapons kills PK because it's just too powerful. If I ever find those binding stones and EFEs that everyone wants, I might just have to hoard them.

Spending the first hour of a new game picking vegetables doesn't sound that thrilling to me. I prefer Piper's suggestion of getting bread, or perhaps lower the veggie level so it doesn't take so long for a new player. Some of us found the encyclopedia almost immediately upon playing. Personally, I remember the fire essence walk through as the most useful and most interesting (other than smacking rabbits/beavers of course). The walk through in the skills section was very easy to follow and felt very gratifying, especially when I found that lots of people standing in VoTD storage would buy them. Wanted or not, here's how I would redesign the walkthrough. Part #1: Kill 10 rabbits and 10 beavers, and return to NPC to trade the furs for a sword Part #2: Put bones and meat in storage Part #3: Pick 10 roses, 10 red red snaps, and 10 sulfur Part #4: Make 10 FEs Part #5: Harvest a couple logs, make a fire, cook some meat Personally I think this is more interesting since it walks a new player through almost all of the basics, including a few maps. At the end, the Tutorial NPC could encourage them to make more FEs and sell them and the bones in local chat near a storage. Most people will buy them and it encourages new players to interact with others. Since the community is one of the aspects of this game that is most appealing, I think it should be encouraged above selling flowers to an NPC, which is more of a grind IMO. Of course, as Ent said, there are those who have issues reading. Any way around it, I don't think those people are going to finish too many of these quests anyway. At least this way those people get their sword, which is really all they want anyway. For those of us who can read, this teaches us most of the basics right away without too much sitting around, which is really the point of the quest

So much fun! I can't believe how late I went to bed last night. Half an hour later while trying to go to sleep I kept thinking about logging back on to see how you all were doing. Part of me wants to say DON'T COME BACK to all of those who have left only because I'm entirely too selfish and love that during the main part of the invasions there are only a handful of people against that many mobs. The later (expensive) part of the invasion was fantastic. Without the three of you I wouldn't have those fluffies and cyclopes on my counter. So much fun. All in all, yesterday was a great day for my counters. Thank you Mr.Hide! (and bkc, spyridonas, and spirited!)

I would love to live in England. The only problem is that I'm an English teacher, and there isn't too high of a demand for yank teachers over there. I might infect your youth with horrors like "color" and definite articles in front of words like hospital. Oh well. I do plan to visit though!
