  1. Christmas Event

Awesome--see you there I love having you at my events! Hope you can make it!! I still need at least 2 more people or these events can't happen Donations welcome as well. I really only need one more person who can work the Sunday event. You can still do the Yankee Swap, you will just need to also help out with an event. I should be able to manage the Friday event on my own, and someone volunteered for Saturday already (identity will be secret until after the event in this case ) We seem to be all set on prizes. Unless you have something really cool you want to donate I think we will be all good on that front. Happy Holidays, Lumino -Lum
  2. Christmas Event

Yep, you've got it all right. I've played the game in real life at an annual holiday party, it's a blast. One person every year brings this dud gift, this statuette of a woman playing in tennis, and whoever gets stuck with it brings it the next year. Its hilarious And yes, we will limit registration to 20. Maybe 25. The game shouldn't take longer than a half hour, if even. The pace will be quite brisk. So drawing #1 is a drawback because you're stuck with what you got (unless someone trades with you). Hopefully the game will be as fun in EL as it is in RL -Lum
  3. Christmas Event

When you "open" a gift I won't actually give it to you for exactly that reason. It is just understood that you have it. If at anytime people start to forget what others have you can just ask them, they oughta remember -Lum
  4. Eternal Buzz

Well, I have been planning a new podcast all about EL called Eternal Buzz. For those of you don't know, a podcast is like a radio show over the internet; you can listen to the episodes online at any time. Basically, I recorded the first episode and then I stopped and decided I needed to ask all of you what your opinions are. Since I'm doing this for the community, I need to hear your thoughts on what you want this to be! So please post here with any thoughts/ideas/desires so that I can learn how to better serve the community with this podcast. I know that this isn't really an event per se; but it sort of is in that there is a new thing coming along in the community, so I figured it counts Thanks all, Lumino
  5. Eternal Buzz

POSTPONEMENT NOTICE I am sorry for the long wait, and especially for such bad news as this...frankly, I don't have time to orchestrate this right now. I need to focus my EL time on running my guild and getting some more contests/events in-game. I regret to inform you all that for now, the podcast is on hold. Perhaps next year or during the summer I'll pick up the ball again. Lumino
  6. Win9x users kicked out ?

I thought you can't modify the client without special permission? Or does this count as special permission? Lum
  7. Guild Leaders

As this thread is out of date but I still like the idea, I am considering picking up the project myself. I will try to work on a website or forum for the league and see if I can get it up--If so I'll make a new post. Lum
  8. Sound FX bug reports

Same for me, the map works well except for water sounds on the storage docks, and when I walk on the stone walls of the "arena" or whatever it is I still get sand/dirt walking sounds, should probably be stone. Lum
  9. Sound FX bug reports

EDIT: Everything works fine, I hadn't installed the sounds properly Lum
  10. ALOA: A new family :)

I've always wanted to be a GM and finally my dream has come true: the Azure League of Artisans is no longer a dream but a reality. Our guild is young and small, so if you are to join, you have to understand that the first few months will be a bit sparse. But joining early means that when we do grow to a considerable size, you will become an important high-ranking member. If you want that, and don't mind paying the small price that time presents us, then maybe you should consider our guild. So what are we all about? Our mission is threefold: 1. To become the best possible players we can in EL (skills, abilities, knowledge, etc.); 2. To promote, protect, and contribute to the fantastic community of our game; 3. To have as much fun as possible in the process and make a guild that will leave a lasting legacy! We are a professional guild, and we have a website with forums, available here: http://aloa.110mb.com If you are interested in joining a guild in which you will have real friends, and a family that cares about you, PM Lumino, Curia, or Baloney, or post on our forums. I can't wait to meet you all! -Lumino
  11. ALOA: A new family :)

Thanks Ciss I might just take you up on your offer Anyway, we are now 8 members strong, so come join the party all you newbies out there! We are seeking fun-loving, friendly, ambitious players to join our family! PM Lumino, Cuia, or Baloney in game, or check out our website (post on the "joining" part of the forum) http://aloa.110mb.com -Lumino
  12. Debating Contest 1#

In a game that caters to so many types of people--those who want to make as much money as possible, those who want to make as many friends as possible, those who want to fill their inventories with rare items--it is always necessary to create new alleys by which a player may advance his goals, be they monetary, reputation, or skill-related goals. When you really think about it, everything in EL--or any mmo for that matter--comes down to hubs. Players meet at a fluffy spawn and duke it out for access to the critters that lurk there. Players hang around an iron ore and chat about their lives and their characters. Players meet while exploring secret areas and share other secrets advancing their own game knowledge. The number of player-to-player interactions in mmo's is staggering--I couldn't name half of them--and this is the whole purpose of an online game. But the common factor in all of these interactions are the hubs, the centers, if you will: the fluffies, the iron, the secret areas. But also the skills, the items, the guilds, the stores, the NPCs...all of them serve as hubs, as points of overlap in the sphere of influences of all the players in the game. It isn't too difficult to determine that the addition of a skill will create more such hubs; why, the skill itself acts as a hub! Engineering creates a number of more player-to-player interactions for exactly this reason. So what it really comes down to is this: are player-to-player interactions desirable...or not? Clearly, we all log into these Eternal Lands day after day to share the joy of the game with our fellow players, our fellow alchers, fighters, mages--and our fellow engineers--for one simple reason: to appreciate, to assist, to enjoy, to converse, to trade, to fight against, and by a scarce stretch, to interact. If it is the ultimate goal of every player to interact with other players in our cherished game, and we have agreed that hubs increase interactions, then any action the developers can take which will increase the number of hubs without compromising game quality by diluting the game with poorly thought out skills or useless items is not only desirable, but it is a necessity. Thusly, unarguably, undeniably, sonorously, the addition of the Engineering skill was clever, wise, and a fantastic decision by the game developers.
  13. Guild Leaders

Sounds great! ALoA is in Lum
  14. ALOA: A new family :)

Thanks If you see anyone seeking a guild, point them in my direction
  15. The EL Theater

As I mentioned to you via PM, I am interested in acting (its also one of my RL interests...) but only once I have some more free time. Right now the podcast and a few other things are my main concerns, but I will eventually get on board. And I do think that a play is entirely possible; text won't be too boring, if it was, why would people read books? If the text itself is interesting (and this means that the play must be catered specially to EL; no adapting currently written plays to the EL stage will be too successful IMHO) then this is not only possible, but it will be very enjoyable. I would also love to write a script or two, another thing I enjoy doing (though I usually write for film ). Can't wait! Lum
  16. Search for the Pirate Booty

    Sounds like fun
  17. The EL Theater

Of course you're right; a 5-10 minute play in EL wouldn't be at all boring. The problem is, is it worth all the effort you will have to go to for such a short show...but that's a decision you have to make, it will be a lot of work but if there were to be say a five minute show every month, I'd attend every one. Lum
  18. The EL Theater

Hi Xen Basically what I have to say is similar to what's been said already, so I'll keep it brief. This is a fantastic idea in theory, as Enly articulated, but she is also right in that it's quite difficult to realize. If you've ever been involed in real life theatre (which I assume you have) you know that anyone can memorize lines and actions; what distinguishes a "good" play from a truly engaging theatrical experience are the smallest details...faces actors make, the way they play off each other, and the tones of their voices, all things beyond the capabilities of Eternal Lands. But never fear, because the way I see it, if there are people excited about something there is always a way to realize a dream, and you are clearly excited about this. My suggestion would be not to give up! While a play may not be totally interesting, why not go wild? If anyone is familiar with the work of the Neo-Futurists, an eminent and respected modern theater group in Chicago, you'll know what I'm talking about. In their most famous work, "Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind", they have 30 short 2-minute scenes, all unrelated, and spin a roulette wheel to determine the order. This can be done in EL and with good results! What about a show that's made up as it goes, perhaps with the audience contributing ideas throughout? Such twists add excitement and drama and make theater possible in EL. It will take hard work to implement, but if you're dedicated enough, I say bust in there and make it happen! Lumino
  19. Eternal Buzz

Yeah, definetely Well my new computer has arrived, so give me a few days to get my bearings and I'm back on the job! That means that the podcast will go live in a few weeks in all likelihood. Luminio
  20. Eternal Buzz

Hi Draegox, just thought I'd answer your questions, not just for you but for everyone since I bet people are wondering... The shows length is not standardized; episodes will be at least 10 minutes, and in all likelihood no longer than 30. These are estimates, though, it really depends, but from my experience, even when you think something will come out short, it ends up way longer than you expected. Each episode will have a "main" story, like an interview or poll result or whatever. However, there will be certain "bonus sections" like quote of the week, crime watch, and all sorts of stuff, depending on what people want. (Your suggestions have been added to the list ) Anyway, this is a community-geared project, so what you says really really matters. Also, I am thinking of making this more of a "news website", rather than limiting it to a podcast. There will most likely also be a blog, although the podcast is the main effort, but running a blog takes much less time so I can throw that in with my free time on weekends Thanks for support, hope to have more details soon, and I am very sorry for the delays. Lumino
  21. Eternal Buzz

That sounds really great, Xenkoriu, can't wait Just shoot me a forum PM when youve got something. Lum
  22. Eternal Buzz

Hello all. Thank you Enly for addressing everyone on my behalf, you captured my sentiments exactly Since my computer isn't working, I am using another one, which makes it impossible to play EL (although I can from time to time get on a different comp to play). So for now I need to work on whatever I can from this computer. Unfortunately, the podcast really can't go forward until I have my laptop back to develop the site, get the technical stuff up, etc. So, the grand opening will be delayed a month or so, maybe just a few weeks; I cannot be certain. In the meantime, I can use help in another area--content! All of you who offered to help, here is what I need. Get together some information for an episode and forum PM me with it. Examples are: 1. find a guest for the show 2. research an in-game event/happening and write up some info on it 3. take a poll somewhere in EL and send me the results 4. get quotes from important people 5. write opinion pieces/gather data that is interesting for listeners 6. and anything else you can think of! Basically, there's a lot of content I could gather if I was ingame (talking to people, asking questions, etc.) but right now I cant really play EL, so all of you are my eyes and ears! I will take raw data you submit to me and convert it into scripts. Thanks very very much for all your help. Btw, when gathering info and questioning people, you can cite that you "work for" the Eternal Buzz podcast, if people have complaints/questions, please direct them to me. Thank you all SO much for the enthusiasm, I know this can be a success. Lumino
  23. Python Binding

I am an experienced Python programmer, and it is my personal opinion that Python is an excellent language for writing an EL bot in. The only part I am struggling with is the binding. I'm good at learning new rules and working in bindings, but I haven't a clue as far as creating them. Is there anyone with a good experience in C and Python who knows how to create a decent binding between them for EL bots that includes trade functionality? Lum
  24. Eternal Buzz

Everything is going well, we have a plan for the first three episodes, including some VERY interesting special guests. First episode coming soon I hope, I will make a new thread when its ready
  25. Python Binding

Well, the server must send messages back at you (through the socket if were talking about python) about things like PMs and basically all other information about the world around you...so how do you interpret these messages? Thanks jamincollins, already have your code, looking at it has helped a bit
