Hi everyone! I have an extremely exciting announcement for all of you today. For those of you who know me, hi again, hope this message finds you well. For those of you who don't, I'm Lumino, and today I'm writing as a citizen of EL who wants to make some changes--for the better. Some of you know me from the Eternal Lands Gala which was held last July; the event was a great success with over 200 guests. Others of you attended the EL Christmas Events 2007. Either way, you should know that my close friends and I are devoted to creating things for the community of the game we so love. Now, I announce that we are launching a formal organization, called the Community Endeavors Society. Here's how it works... CES will be a large organization (NOT a guild) devoted to promoting major community projects, like the annual gala and the Christmas Events, but also smaller things, like the occasional contest or tournament. We hope to entertain hundreds of members--membership is free--and bring them exciting new developments and ways to enjoy Eternal Lands. If you enjoyed the gala or Christmas events, then this is a society you'll definitely want to join. Benefits of membership: * Periodic emails abut what CES is up to * Plenty of fun events to attend hosted by CES * A chance to volunteer and help make the gears inside CES spin * Your input considered with extra weight * Lots of opportunities to win prizes and cash * And, of course, it's free to join! Now, this isn't just a "ask me to join and you're on" sort of thing. You should start out by becoming a CES member, volunteering at events, getting on committees, etc. to prove to us that you are dedicated, good at what you do, and that you feel a sense of civic duty. Enly, a current board member, is an excellent example. I had never heard her name before when she PMed me to explain that she was interested in helping me organize the gala. Thereafter, she helped a ton, and we became friends; now she is extremely dedicated and offers to help with just about every project I take on. This is what you must do; you've got to prove yourself. After the gala, we had several requests for it to be every 6 months rather than annually. This didn't seem right to me, so instead the Board has decided to launch separate annual event every February, so that there are still two a year. This event is the Eternal Lands Birthday Bash. EL's official Birthday is February 14th, but that's a Thursday, so the party will be held on the weekend just thereafter. Please join us in celebrating Eternal Lands' 5th birthday party! This event will be a lot like the gala, but much larger, with more fantastic fireworks and a custom invasion planned. Great I've seen you around on the forums before and at events All donations are deeply appreciated. Btw, I noticed a small problem...for the most part everyone is doing it right, but some people are putting their real life name in the Name spot when you join the list. We need your ingame name, otherwise we have no clue who you are! Also, a number of you forgot to confirm your subscription with the email you received. I was just curious about gender in EL...it's possible that this has been done before, I searched and couldn't find anything. Even if it's been done before, this will serve as a more "up to date" version. So....are you male/female IRL, and are you male/female in-game? Well, ok, it's true that maybe it should be done Learner's way, where all the other spells are changed to match restoration. But, either way, it IS an inconsistency, whether you like my opinion or anyone else's.

Well whether restoration is broken or all the other spells are is an opinion question. Either way, it is an inconsistency and either restoration or all the others should be changed. Personally, I would prefer if restoration was changed, for reasons I outlined above. Also, if you get EXP, doesn't it follow that the animation should show? I can try to rely on poison, but as I said it's annoying, and could be very costly wasting esses/potions in heavy testing.

Yeah, it wouldnt be hard to implement. I see where you're coming from Aislinn, as I too have had to try to refer newbies to the encyclopedia--having them press F3 would improve things greatly. And yes Piper what you said is exactly as I envision it. Simply adding a new argument to the dictionary (or map or whatever they're called in C dictionary in python..lol) would solve it. It could be shift-left click, or the question mark icon I suggested, not sure which I'd prefer, really... Still this is something that should seriously be considered. It would be immensely helpful.

Yeah--but it has that little parchment behind it, which may look a little--blockish. I prefer the one in Roja's avatar. Still, I can use the one in the folder, if I can convert it from .ico to .jpg or something. Shouldnt be too hard.

Better except it's got holes in it and is a little choppy. Still might help to actually put Eternal Lands somewhere there Yeah, I stole it from your avatar and used GIMP to change the background from the forum tan to a white, in the process it got a little messed up. Perhaps you can supply an unmolested EL logo on a white background?

What would be nice, is if eventually, an extra icon on the bottom of the screen could be added, a question mark. You could click it on any item in sto, inv, bag, or even on the map you're on to see an appropriate encyclopedia article, if there is one. Perhaps later more uses for the help tidbit could be implemented. Like, clicking it on the clock on the side shows encyc article about time or something. A lot of questions newbies ask on @@1 could easily be answered by a simple click this way, clearing the channel up for more complex questions like "How do I get into alchemy?" or "Can I fight this" etc. While on the topic, it would be nice if there was a way to type a "link" to an encyclopedia article, like "encyc://alchemy/fire_essence.xml". Just the way F2 goes to last http link seen, pressing F3 could now open encyclopedia to the last encyc link seen. Which makes it WAY easier to help newbies. Just some ideas, I know there are tons more priorities for the devs right now, but I do think these things are in the long term good of the game. Lum

That's actually brilliant. I will consider it. Whether it will cause a significant enough decrease in health, I'm not sure--but it is absolutely worth a shot. In the meantime though, I would infinitely prefer not having to track health to make things easier...if there is any way to fix this, please alert me. Thanks Lum

That's something I considered initially, but one of those things I never got around to Still, it's definetely add-able, could take a bit as it takes me a while to set up my forms But yes, I think I will do this. Sorry to resurface an old topic... I PMed Radu ingame but he was a bit busy so I thought I would post here so at least there is a record of my request. In order to better perform the fireworks at the upcoming party in February, I would like to submit a strong request that the animation play for restoration even when the person has full health. Otherwise it is really not possible for me to use restoration in the show (and it is a very cool effect), it is too much trouble to deal with poisoning oneself and then restoring the correct number of times. I am hoping this can be fixed on the server-end and not client-end so it can be done in time for February. Lum

Aislinn, I fully understand what you mean--and, I see how this can be frustrating for moderators. I only asked 2 mods to announce it (and only because after getting Roja's OK the first one had logged off), 'multiple' is a bit of a stretch But the point is, yes, I know there is an events team. And yes, the eventual plan was to "prove" ourselves to the mods by showing them what we can do events-wise, and then perhaps approach Kheres about helping with his events. Either way, I never mean to cause this much trouble, I hope you know! Still, I'd just like to address a couple points so there is no misconception. I would never ask you to favor my group over any other. I completely agree. Not quite It's for promotion, awareness, etc.--but yes, we are hoping to get people to join. I do not ask to be "officially supported". I only want to keep running the same events I always have, just this time, being able to send info about them to the mailing list of people who joined, and giving a "front" to the group of people that has helped me every time and go unnoticed. I don't do my events alone, but since I always post about them, people start calling it "Lumino's party", "Lumino's event", which is WRONG. Usually I have a panel of supporters, and they are all now on the board for CES. CES is not mine alone. It's not even solely the property of those who join. It is now, and will always be, an attempt to help the community in any way possible. You can take it's early mistakes as a sign of it's incompetence if you want. You can decide that it is exclusive, arrogant, or whatever. You can turn away from it with distaste if you like. Or we can patch the rift and make friends--what CES is all about. I would have sworn I saw I REALLY don't want this thread to turn into an argument/discussion of this, it is rather one to promote the group--however I do feel slightly misrepresented in this post, and I am sorry you feel this way. If you wish to discuss it further, I will forum PM you. In light of comments posted on this thread, and after some consideration, I do see the error in my original thought--I apologize for it, I had not entirely considered it before I posted, and I will make sure to do in the future. I really hope this doesn't dampen the spirit of what we are trying to do. If you know me, you know that I would never want to hurt anyone or cause any problems. I am doing this for everyone in EL, and I would hate to think that by trying to help I somehow caused an issue. So, please accept apologies and understand that anyone will be welcome to win any events we host. I hadn't even though of this--you're right, of course. OK, so there won't be prizes for signing up. BUT: you cannot win any event by CES and claim the prize unless you are a member from now on. Perhaps a more indirect way to offer incentive. How wold you suggest doing this? An EL logo? Right, and for this reason CES is already planning a small event to kick things off.
