  1. A mystery

You can kibbitz from your kibutz! (did I spell that right?) The game sounds like great fun! I'll be in and out so can't sign up, but I wish you well with it!
  2. What are you gonna do with your life?

I'm 50 years old and I still have no idea..... Maybe go to school some more? That's always fun.
  3. logic test

Piffle! Such is logic, not! OTTFFSSEN... Since when am I supposed to know every Norwegian name in the phone book?? Your favorite Swede, Mugs
  4. 2008 Presidential Candidates

Interesting to look at the poll results and compare them to the field of candidates seven months later! So it appears to be O'Bama vs McCain... two Irishmen. Wait... I didn't say that.... I won't speculate other than to state my usual tirade at this time on election years: "Too much filthy lucre has been wasted on meaningless nonesense throughout this campaign that should have been used for assisting the needy!" I also must still bitch about the fact that there are more than two political parties in the US. I am registered Green. If I had ever thought that being a New York State resident and there was any question that my vote might keep the Republicans away from the control panel, I would have voted for Hillary. I was at one time confident that that would never happen. Not yet knowing who the Greens endorse, I don't know what to do. Obama does not have the international chops for the job. He talks bullshit better than most folks, but they don't use poop for credit at the bank. I want Jesse back! I want MLK back!! I even want Sharpton back!!! C. Virginia Fields!!!! Damn! There are real human beings out there!! Crap! So I guess it's me and my old pal Ralphie again... dreamin' and schemin' and wishin' on stars......
  5. Where has this world turned to?

All true. everything that's been said. It is important to know how to act in these emergencies, and not because of George Bush and his favorite terrorists... unless you want to wrap the poor guy up in duct tape and leave him in the street while you quickly go shopping for big ticket items... *ahem, sorry* According to the video and news report there is no proof that nobody called the police (911) right away, it's possible someone did and the responders were on the way. The fact that cars passing by did not stop and turn on their emergency flashers at least, not to mention pulling over and directing traffic around the man, is pretty cold. Someone seeing the "accident" could have gone to the man and checked for the simple things like breath, pulse, awareness. Even just holding a hand and talking. Most people in American cities and populated neighborhoods like this one don't react that way. Blee describes that very well, and it's perfectly normal. I think the media has a lot to do with it. We see and hear the sensational incidents all around us and get used to them happening every evening at 6:00. Could be when the emergency occurs right in front of us, we are so freaked out that it's not 6:00 we don't know what to do... That's the shock that comes from seeing this kind of thing without a screen in between. It really is a kind of trauma. There is also the "excitement from seeing someone else being pwned" syndrome, I'll admit to watching those web videos of poor fools on skateboards, office chairs, homemade helicopters get squished bigtime due to their own bravado. Hell, cross that street? No way, man! Another point is the idea that someone else will know what to do gives us an out. Here is where the news stories of the miracle paramedic appears on the scene come into mind. If I try to help and screw up while people are watching me, I'll be so embarassed. I might do the wrong thing. Of course in most daytime situations people have things to do and places to be that they legitimately are more concerned about. Sure being fired from your job for being late because you took the time to save a life is a movie plot, but people actually worry about it and I'll bet it has actually happened more than once. Sooo.... those are some excuses from healing the man and catching the street racers on the spot like Superduperman, I have to remind us that doing anything about it is doing good. I've saved a few lives but only due to happenstance and I need to remind myself to pay attention to everyone around me more often and at least help the little old ladies who drop stuff in the market. I do remember a similar incident to this one where an old man collapsed and hit his head in front of one of the doors to the store I worked at. This was a cool slob job at a real swanky classic car dealership so the whole front was glass but of the four employees inside none of us saw the guy fall down. I was cleaning the 'throom, the girls were typing and the boss was concentrating on his cigar. Some rich wag had trouble getting through the door and was cursing at something. He yelled at the boss about letting drunks sleep on the sidewalk, so I went to see. It was an old man with a spot of blood on the sidewalk and a few people discussing his situation. I shouted inside that he was hurt and call the police, but the street parking ticket cop had walked up. The guy was okay, he sat up after a while. Meanwhile the boss shouts to get rid of him, get him away from my store. Point being nobody thought the man was hurt, they just assumed he was a sleeping wino. I didn't have any effect on the situation at all, but it did prove to me that it really is worth it to pay attention. Here is something that really kicked my head when I was a kid about this kind of apathy, not to mention my luvvin Pop who will at 85 still say "Observe your surroundings, pay attention! If you break your leg, don't come running to me!" This link is the lyrics to a popular folk/protest song from the 1960's by Phil Ochs called 'Small Circle of Friends'. Phil Ochs ~ Outside of a Small Circle of Friends Hearing the tune is better, but you have to buy the LP! (or deal with the lousy YooToob covers) Most important, read the paragraph after the lyrics. It explains the origin of the song being a news story about Kitty Genovese who was brutally raped and murdered in the courtyard of her apartment building in New York City. All her neighbors heard her screams, nobody called the police.
  6. EL Affects my screens gamma?

Same thing with my old Dell WinXP Home. One workaround I've found is to adjust the monitor itself (old CRT with buttons) and to readjust for other programs. Actually I've been doing this for graphics programs and glare problems over the years anyway so it's no bother. Never did find a way through the client to cure that.
  7. EL 170 Pre RC

It works!! Noting my below specs I can't play with these goodies on at all, but if I go find a small and quiet map I can turn on all the features and experience everything my system handles. There's no way to test it further than that with this machine but it doesn't crash or display strange images. My real big thank you is for the switchability of all these features! If it was built into the client permanently, I would have to give EL up. Sooo glad you can still provide support for lower-end machines that way! Thanks to all you devs, Radu, and Roja for all the hard work!
  8. In forums, signature size problems

I have tried to keep my signature as thin as possible yet there always seems to be a large blank space beneath it. Looking at other signatures, some have the same properties and others have no space or only one blank line below. Is there any way I can affect this while creating the sig? I tried many different combinations of text and graphics with the same resuts.
  9. In forums, signature size problems

I have left my avatar off and no sig at all for the time being and my first post still has a 5-6 line gap. Tried going to the source and registered with IP Board Forums to check the support area but got punk't! Cannot access forum unless you are a customer I would like to download the demo to try it myself (I use php board,) but don't have the time today. Meanwhile I just won't worry about it. Checked 'My last 10 posts' and found one with no space that has an image at the bottom. Another with an image has the space, so found no pattern..... OK, I'll stop obsessing about it! Thanks, Aislinn! If I discover anything I'll post.
  10. In forums, signature size problems

Now this is strange! I removed everything from the sig. box using 'select all' and 'delete'. Going back to my above post, the space still exists! For the sake of not much, I deleted my avatar as well to no effect. (edit) Still a space with a fresh post, nothing after the last period... Maybe it's me, I'm one of those people who puts a watch on a wrist and before 24 hours is up the watch has stopped never to run again... (2nd edit) Oookay... the below edit notice removes the space...
  11. Artwork Updates

    Incredible, Roja. You are amazing!
  12. Whats your Favourite song at the Moment?

Didn't think I could find this one, too bad it's just audio... woke up last night with The Bobs going through my head and never got back to sleep. Still it made me realize why I like to play EL in the first place. So I can wear My Helmet!
  13. Could it be possible to make the rain graphic effects switchable via the console? My antique computer goes way down in FPS when it's raining. The same thing occurs with Particle percentage so I keep that down around 10%. (I know, I've been needing a new machine since '04 )
  14. Guess the movie

Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer, Go-o-o-o!! A favorite cartoon when I was a kid. I'll bet the movie is terrible! Take it away Fantastika!
  15. where am i !

Bingo, Garnoo! That's Asterix and Obelix rock!
  16. Ants on pk server

Sounds great! I'll give them things to use too. They were a great surprise last night, Learner. Thanks for bringing them online!
  17. Guess the movie

Looks like it's time for a kick start....
  18. where am i !

I guess this thread needs a boost, the pic is a clicky...
  19. Switchable rain?

I'm just referring to the rain graphics that appear in the client, can it be switchable just like the fog effect. It can still be 'raining'. With all the sprinkles coming down my FPS can go as low as 1 or 2.
  20. Omg, this car sucks, it's red

    Only in the U$A ...
  21. Ants on pk server

And like I usually say, being a slow leveler, have the ants work their way up like the rest of us. That will give us weenies someone to attack!
  22. Am I using the wrong client?

I trimmed down my EL's to only one client (PK) and got my el.ini correct but still have the map problems. Can't think of any other things to try, server side, I guess?
  23. The Pro's of the game

Mugwort, of course! Actually my list is long... wish I had more time to enjoy EL!
  24. Leonard - Victim #1

So, are the rumors true? Does Leonard the Leopard wear a Leotard??
  25. Search online players
