  1. https://plus.google.com/104912707432334684242/posts/1gnbmo63xVa That link goes to a Google+ Linux community post. It shows what you need to do to get Linux to run Netflix. You install the google Chrome Beta browser (version 37 something), download a user agent switcher, set a custom user agent and switch to that one before going to the netflix page. I tried this myself and it seems to work just fine. I got no requests for ActiveX or SilverLight. I did not get a message saying my browser did not fit the bill or needed an update. It does NOT work with Chrome version 36. Warning: Beta software can eat your cat and leave you vulnerable to hackers and memory leaks. Use them at your own risk.
  2. Bad news about Forgiven

Forgiven was on my facebook friends list, so I found this bit of bad news tonight. It seems he was in a motorcycle accident and died last night (Saturday). Here is his facebook page with consent from his sister. https://www.facebook.com/BakerNathan He was in PEN a ways ago before he became a member of CEL. This may be an article about it: http://lancasteronline.com/news/local/montgomery-county-man-killed-in-caernarvon-twp-cycle-crash/article_463186ec-f4c2-11e3-a1c9-001a4bcf6878.html This is something on a more cheerful note about him. He was a guitar member in a band. Here is his Youtube page. https://www.youtube.com/user/NathanBakerMusic
  3. Get rid of rule #5?

Soul, being able to run multiple clients well on your computer does not mean you can actually focus on all of those clients very well. I have ran 3 clients at one time in a non-multi-play fashion and I tell you that you get really inefficient doing so. Your efficiency turns into about 1.5 characters' output tops. I have mentioned this before, but I would much prefer a non-moderator based punishment for multi-play if radu feels it is necessary to punish folk for multi-play. Ideally, this would be some pickpocket that shows up and steal a random easy to snatch item sometime in the next game day if are detected as trading with someone from your IP address. There would be a 10% chance of the dude showing up. He would probably show up when you seem afk. He might avoid storage and temples. It would be alot less stress than having the mods have to track stuff and families and friends being punished for having families and friends without telling mods. Who really wants to track all those real life relations anyway? I agree that it is more damaging to have characters sold than it is to have multi-play. About the thief idea, lets say you have one character mixing and another mining. Each trade being a 10% chance of a theft. after 10 trades/bag-accesses, you have probably been robbed 1 time and as much as 10 times after the end of 6 hours. Another way to work it is that you get +10% chance of theft for each same IP trade/bag-trade and every hour it goes down 10%. That meaning that over a 10 hour period after 10 flagged trades in one hour, you have a 100%,90%,80%,70%,60%,50%,40%,30%,20%,10% chance of being robbed of some easy to steal item or multiple of that item. By easy to steal, I mean things that are not equipped or they are in a bag. The total weight would be under 500 emu.
  4. When you were a nub

This only applies for under lvl 20 iirc. With dailies, that is passed too quickly for you to really learn everything you need to be safe. I agree with Grort... There are some new players in my guild that were only in the game for 3 days before they were lvl 20... I think it might be nice to up the lvl to the lowest starting invance lvl... Witch I think is 40 I can get a character to level 20 in under 3 hours. On another note, once libSDL 2.0 is stable, we can start working on having EL on android devices and iphones and then adware some income for the game along with mentioning the desktop client. We can even start on using libSDL 2.0 before it is stable. If we can shop from the EL shop using google account payments (may require using the google account password or something) we can boost the game sales. Of course, EL shop prices are way over the prices of a number of the "feed my character progression with $" sort of free android games.
  5. SDL 2.0

I looked on the SDL site today and noticed there was an unnofficial snapshot yesterday. I figure someone could play around with an SDL 2.0 version of the client and then we would hopefully be ready for when SDL 2.0 is out so that we can first make a desktop version (Windows/Linux/OSX/etc) and then go for the androids and iphones. http://www.libsdl.org/hg.php Make note that the code is unnofficial so far and potentially unstable. There is some stuff they are currently ironing out via the libSDL mailing lists.
  6. Daggers: The Forgotten Weapon.

Note the unbalanced ingredients lists in EL. Steel shield is 8 steel bars and 2 iron bars. Titanium short swords are 6 steel bars and 6 iron bars. This means that a short sword uses slightly more metal than a steel shield assuming equal bar sizes. Your recipies should probably take less bars than a shield and less bars than a titanium short sword. I would think that steel shields would require more bars though. Maybe I am screwy there.
  7. New AI for invasion monsters

Ambush = A monster or two sit at one location and when they sense someone coming, they call others to them. The others may circle around as to not be seen until it is too late to escape. Alternatively, a monster may run to try to lure people into the ambush. At any rate, monsters running when there are not enough other monsters nearby to help them or running to help other monsters when they see them attack would allow for all sorts of strategy. For a scouting party, they could try to stay X steps away from eachother while they wander and that would allow them a better chance to search. They would also try to not go backwards. Once they decide which general direction they are going, they only have 3 directions they may go (forward, forward+left, forward+right from their chosen direction). Some monsters may follow other monsters. Imagine little blue dragons following a big blue dragon. Dragon pups following their momma, anyone? Maybe the armed male goblin has a female goblin stalking him? Maybe a fox or wolf is some ogre's pet?
  8. N.S.

By the way, NS also stands for netscape, Negeri Sembilan, "Nice Shot", "Non-Smoker", "Not Sure", "No S**t", network simulator, non-symmetric, not significant.
  9. N.S.

I agree. Now on the topic of nazis, the swastika was actually a holy symbol and is really quite ancient. Don't take it to always be a bad thing just because a hateful madman used it. You also should not always consider bitch as being a bad word, since the Proper use of it is to describe a female dog. It is a shame and an insult to female dogs that people started to use the word bitch to refer to female humans that the speaker does not like.
  10. SDL 2.0

They are now building the official release for SDL 2.0. Expect it to be available for download soon.
  11. Attribute choice for lvling with high ping spikes.

Good point. This is the server update during which the steel helm became no-drop. http://www.eternal-lands.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=58228 Note that as far as I know, the titanium chainmail which I suggested does drop. I just think it is that much better for armor than steel chain. Low emu too.
  12. Attribute choice for lvling with high ping spikes.

I used unicorn medallions for a long long time. Right through cyclops. I may recommend swapping to ti chain for a mere 5k from Aluwen's priestess. It will keep your death bag's gc value down, if that is what you really want. Augmented leather pants give much better protection than leather pants, but break quick, so that breakage is a risk factor that would be bad for you during a bad ping attack. Dare I say that you don't have to train alone? Having a guildmate/buddy/ally nearby that can grab your death bag when you die can be a lifesaver. The more trusted, the better. It is important to really be able to trust the person, but sometimes ally guilds or even your own guild may be fooled and recruit a thief. It happens. Meanwhile, if the training buddy sees you really low on life, they might be able to remote heal you or harm the critter or slice the critter up for you if it is a multicombat map.
  13. Attribute choice for lvling with high ping spikes.

For summoning and magic, you will probably need some will and/or vitality. High will with low damage from your strikes will only get you to around the 40's because you need the toughness to go with the will. Many people give will a bad rap, but I like it and have found some good fighters that like it. You have a nice a/d gap, so I am thinking you probably have the defense god which is something that I think would be good in the situation. MoL and CoL and SoP is a good combo for someone that does not want to do too much damage, but needs as much help with damage soaking as possible. Evanescence helps the combo too. So does mirror skin. Avoiding mobs that you know will hit you hard when they hit you may be a good idea. Some mobs like cyclops have bad crit hits. Egratia Point could be quite dangerous for you consider they will try to gang up on you and do nasty critical hits. The shield spell may help you some. You may want to try both a unicorn medallion and a moon medallion to see which one really works better for you. The extra defense levels from a unicorn medallion may help more than the armor if it helps you dodge enough blows. Defense potions or other buff potions may help. Sometimes the internet issue is just in receiving packets and not really in sending them. You may be able to cast a restore spell and have it accepted by the server, but this is only a slight chance. It seems the effects of coordination are affected alot more by astrology and random monster attributes than the effects of physique. I am not totally sure of that though. I am not a pro character builder like some folk, but I hope my advice helps some. I used my equipment combo and my 30/48 p/c in the 100-120 invance and 120/130 capped invasions quite a bit. I have the evanescence perk. I do not suggest the invance and invasions till you are mid range for them due to the a/d gap (it is hard to hit things).
  14. When you were a nub

http://www.linuxformat.com/archives?issue=76 may have been how I found the game. That or LinuxJournal. It seems there were a number of magazines back in 2005 with articles about Eternal Lands. I notice Radu posted on a Raspberry Pi site about wanting to get the game there. I think that is a good move. SDL 2.0 comes out next month, so making EL SDL 2.0 based will let us get onto such systems easier. Raspberry Pi is a popular geek toy right now too.
  15. When you were a nub

Poor happypenguin.org and the game tome are gone. :'(
  16. Eternal Lands Android client (new version)

Good luck. It is a little tricky. At least you don't have to program trading for a Bot though. Ugh. Bot trading code is hard. 3G in general sucks. It is worse on some carriers. AT&T 3G seems to really suck for me. Consider 3G to be dialup with static on the line. Packets may be dropped or corrupted going in either direction. Some phones may have worse 3G or may not support some cellphone towers. My phone is a little old. I have no clue how good your phone is.
  17. Android client

SDL 2.0 might have its official release in May.
  18. SDL 2.0

It sounds like the official release of SDL 2.0 will be in May. This is something I heard from their development forum.
  19. Invance Initiator

If 5 people are enough for an invance, will there be enough people left over to go with the rest of the people from the bracket after they decide to start with a measly 5 people? In my opinion, it takes some very exceptional fighters/summoners to allow a 5 person team to finish an invance. I am in favor of an 8 person group being required to start the invance if we have it done by npc. Of course, I would not doubt it if mob hogs decide to start hiring "enters" to get to go sooner. Sometimes, people ask for invance without being sure of having a team because they are willing to bet that enough people will show up after the announcement. As for tracking when an invance was done, I am sure the mods have some special mods only section of the forum to track/plan/discuss mod stuff in. If they did not have one for the last 7+ years, that would have to be marked up as one of the biggest oversights ever. Scaling invasion mob count based on the abilities and number of people entering? Well, I think that would make alot of sense and dungeon masters of other games have done that since about the birth of roleplaying games. Numerous posts have suggesting implemented waves which may be triggered based on killing X mobs or a certain mob too.
  20. New Buffer Spells

I feel the need to speak up for the newbs here. If you are going to have buff spells, why not let the newbs use them too. Sure the spells might not be as powerful in their hands, but a newb going to 40-60 invance with a mage build could try to help the fighters out this way. Maybe the spells could have much lower level requirements with the usual chance of failure till X (I forget the number) levels above the required level and then become more useful as the mage raises rationality and magic level. For instance, a 40-60 mage might be able to heal everyone in the area +1 life at a time for 60 times in 2 minutes. That would certainly not be very useful for the higher level fighters unless they are resting at the moment, but it would be a big boon to those lower level fighters. I think all of the buff spells should be an area of effect similar to the heal summons spell, but perhaps expanding with magic level and life/mana that is restored would be by X per tick for X total ticks. It may be too difficult to program tracking how many points were restored by any particular point in time.
  21. PKarrows recipe: is it worth it?

I was just thinking about having my guild's main engineer (Jeff) mix up some pk arrows for me if he is willing. Anyone know if it is worth it to make those? 1 Fire Essence 1 Iron Bar 1 Water Essence Arrow/bolt head mold (tool) 2 Arrow/bolt head made per set of ingredients 1 Air Essence 1 Arrow/bolt head 1 Hawk Feather 1 Yew Carving Knife (tool) 1 Pking arrows made per set of ingredients I could have swarn he was paying me over 20gc per feather, so I am thinking that perhaps the recipe may be a bit off for the arrows themselves. Maybe it would make sense if the arrow recipe made 2 each like the arrow/bolt head does.
  22. Thelinor PvP Betting Tavern

Congrats to all of you who said this should be no xp and strictly for pk. You have asked to hear "I have not gotten any better at combat in the last year because I spent all of my time in a no xp arena".
  23. Android client

You need to split the code into 2 parts. One part being a "server" thread that runs on the phone. The other part is the user interface. The two parts would communicate via messages of some sort. The server thread would keep your connection going, continue walking if you are walking and handle all data. It would just not display them or play sounds. The user interface would play the sounds, handle user input, display graphics and talk with the server thread. This is a common approach to android game programming, from what I have read.
  24. PKarrows recipe: is it worth it?

Isn't it only tools used by harvesting? Don't think it works like you wrote... And if it does, then it is a bug which exploiting you have just exposed ... lol It is hard to tell what is a bug and what is a feature in a game that makes so little sense, to be honest.
  25. List of Suggestions

I would not mind this either. Most games have wearable rings. They have enhanced unicorn medallion and enhanced sun medallions now, but those require action points to get the added benefit. I would not be in favor of this. My belief is that any summoner that starts summoning early can summon combat partners for whatever he is fighting on a multi-combat map. Starting summoning late makes all your summons worthless for helping. A simple click of the pointy finger icon on a mob to open up the bag that the mob dropped would be nice. Of course, it would take extra work to pull up other bags, so searching for those would require clicking on a dead critter bringing up a list of bags or maybe a #bags command to bring up dialogue box to select a bag from which would make you walk onto it. I agree with this idea. It would however mean that Radu would have to make the server update files that he does not want to update or to have the stuff in a database table that can be backed up on the start of an hour. Note that the character data is loaded from a file and into a database upon login (at least this is my best understanding of it). An interesting idea. It would of course change combat, harvesting and alot of the rest of the game a bit. Going into map mode and having a dropdown box saying "current map" and then the list of all C1 and C2 maps (Current contintent listed first) would be a nice thing. I believe someone noted that on the bugs listing last week. That might be useful. If your invisibility runs out while trying to get through a dangerous map, you may be screwed. I think I saw at least some of this already. Check the right few tabs in the configs since they might not be on by default. Will and reasoning pots while combined help some. More rationality (which those add to) helps. Poor study habbits is a result of many strictly fighter builds. zoom the camera in. Maybe Radu was wanting to prevent bag spamming. Not sure though. I think this is an option that can be turned on in one of the first 3 tabs of the config window. I know that is vague, but I am not at my own computer right now. LOL By replying in two posts, I managed to break the render of the post. I seem to have exceeded some quote limit.
