  1. Advanced Broker-Bot

I predict a large number of bot owners eventually instructing thier bots to IGNORE this type of bot when it request prices. I've also considered some may send incorrect data to the bot, an INV from that bot would return EVERY item in the game available at WAY below market prices. Just to get the players who use that service to go to thier bot.
  2. Disclosure of the rate changes

LOL, I had a chat with Trollson, so here goes: chance = (item.MAX_ITEM_COUNT - item.CURRENT_ITEM_COUNT)/item.MAX_ITEM_COUNT if(chance > 0) chance = chance * rand() Example: chance = (10000 - 9050)/10000 (chance is 0.95, i.e. very high) is chance > 0? chance = 0.95 * 1.435362 chance is 0.13635939 (i.e. very low) Probably too basic, but it gives a general idea. I don't agree that there should be a ceiling number of the amount of rare items in the game. lowering the chance based on a scaled forumula would be better, like: Start with the premise that if there are 0 in the game, the chance to make one is 5%, this base chance influences the rest of the formula, and could be adjusted based on how many of an item ent wants in the game. (1/20) = 0.05 for each efe in the game, reduce the chance by dividing 0.05 by the number in game 0.05 / (total efe in game) - total efe in game would need to be counted form the flat files, which should only be performed on a limited basis (perhaps every el day??) so if there was 5000 efe's in the game, 0.05 / 5000 = 0.00001 = 0.001% chance of making an efe and hence, you'd get an average of 1 efe per 1000 fe's made. then if lots of efe's flooded in over the course of the day and now you had 10,000 efe's in game the next day would look like this: 0.05 / 10000 = 0.000005 = 0.0005% chance of making an efe, which is one out of 2000 fe's If i got the # of efe per fe's right (this was a quickie post), thats alot of efe's per fe, but you can see how the drop rate really scales based on how many there are, without a cap, but using a base chance that allows ent a good level of control. This way also creates another market dilema, if people hold onto them, they get more rare. if people use them, there are more drops. So folks who make fe's and sell the efe's are better served by selling to someone who will USE the efe's rather then hanging onto them.
  3. Disclosure of the rate changes

Awesome, thanks for the tip! Wait... perhaps it's mis-guidance!~ Speculative trading is fun! Their accounts should be pruned after a certain amount of time. Also, storage shouldn't be so guaranteed. Item theft, rotting and perhaps even taxation (yeah i'm British - sue me) should weigh in on Storages, to act as a sink for items. If you have to pay, it means you have to play, which means those who leave would lose their items too... I read a post in the past from ent that pruning is not done because many people come back after a while.
  4. Disclosure of the rate changes

I Voted yes. On many points I agree with the folks who voted no, and if it was a choice between having very few rate changes and knowing about it and having many (daily? weekly?) rate changes and NOT knowing I would prefer not to know and have the rate change all of the time. I think it's great to know the drop rates of items, and I think that those who hoard them will do so anyways because it helps prop up prices of thier manufactured goods. And I really like the speculative buying and selling that goes on with announced changes (I remember buying 80-90 efe's at 3k each and selling for lots more (5k+) after an announcement) because it rewards those who save the gc to buy up the market and rewards the risk for those who guess correctly and pay attention to the market in the game.
  5. Ingame Name: Crosis I'm buying 2 reasoning stones and 4 vitality stones. Please PM me ingame, or /gossip tell crosis using gossip will send an email to my blackberry, which gets the fastest response. I'm generally aware of current market prices, but to get maximum response I will leave the price open at this time. thanks.
  6. Mods, please close this topic.
  7. Charn's owner

Yes, we are aware of the issue. A fix will be issued in the next few weeks. (I'm currently working on 5-6 other projects, so time is scarce) If someone does another trade, then charn re-syncs properly so the item re-appears in his inventory list.
  8. I Eat Ogre Toes!

Perhaps you could create more balance in this idea if there were a random chance at some type of repercussions. pay 3pp and 10k for ieot perk make ogres toes increase ether points by 3, not 10 make eating ogres toes have a 6% chance of kicking off one of the following random effects: cooldown a random cooldown item in inventory OR 25 radiation dmg OR lose 10 ether points IMO this would balance it out and still make it useful. People would use SRS and augment with ogres toes for those extra few ether points to cast a spell.
  9. OMG, the PK is dead!

Here's an idea, Make it so that a/d levels mean less in the formula that determines hit/miss damage/defense and criticals. Right now, someone who is 20/20 has no chance at all of killing someone who's 30/30 with similar gear, BUT! if the formula were more radical, with a larger amount of CHANCE, you could make it so that you had a 50% of killing someone at the same level, 40% at 5 levels less, 30 % at 10 levels less, 20% at 15 levels less, 10% at 20 levels less, 5% at 25 levels less and 1% at any level difference greater then 25. (Those numbers are not what i'm suggesting, i don't know anything about the current formulas, it's just to illustrate a point) If a 20/20 had a 1% chance of killing a 100/100, it would be funny to see that happen, but if a 20/20 had a real chance of killing a 40/40, you may see alot more people taking chances, especially if the 20/20 busts out a nicer weapon then the 40/40 had in armor protection. I'm thinking that making PK much less predicatable might cause it to become more interesting for lower level folks and hence, cause them to take a chance and fight a tougher player.
  10. What is your opinion about multiplaying?

I know a mod is going to pipe up and say there is more to it than this, but this is how my wife, daughter, and I have handled this. Shortly after we first started we had a LAN party at hour house. Several friends started playing EL and we had a lot of same IP trading. Once the mods questioned us we explained the situation and that we had these parties from time to time. We've since relocated but still have my daughter, my wife, and I playing from the same IP address with numerous trades among ourselves without question or complaint from the mods that I've seen. In short, be honest with the mods. Tell them up front if you can. The problem with everyone doing this is that mods are now going to have to discern whos lying about having multiple family members play, don't you think so? I'm hoping that multi will be allowed, along with other changes to balance it. There has been some great suggestions, and i'm sure the mods had a few ideas in mind before asking us our opinions. I think it could be a cool thing that would reduce the workload of mods who watch for multi players.
  11. What is your opinion about multiplaying?

This is a great idea! reminds me of guildwars or WOW
  12. What is your opinion about multiplaying?

    Thanks for visiting this idea.
  13. Infinate Slots in Storage?

I agree with TT on many of his points. I have alot of respect for the fact that the game was constucted from scratch using the fewest off the shelf libraries and with the most thoughfulness put into the architecture. Frankly, most people who build games tend to use RDBMS for storing data, but the simplicity of the flat file system lends itsself to other benefits. I don't think it's right to knock it in the name of asking for more storage slots. I think 200 is alot considering that if you added up the total number of slots that you would need to hold at least 1 of each of the items in the game (minus books) that you could hold the vast majority of the items before running out of slots.
  14. "Sue me first Microsoft"

MS should put up or shut up, I happen to use MS stuff, but this is wrong. It effects the stock value and therefore the ability to generate operating funds for some of the big contributors to open source. It's clearly a tactic aimed at the pocketbooks of the redhats and oracles of thw world, IANAL but are there any laws against falsely accusing someone of infringement? If there were, someone like the eff could sue for discovery of the "offending code".
  15. France and America

North Korea - Bomb them, the power centers are well seperated form the oppressed civilians. the others, arm the opposition and send the CIA to coordinate and provide satalite and aerial data, in Iran it would be easy to remove the islamists, they are a minority. It's pretty clear which sides want to dominate by war and which sides had been able to live in peace. If Islamists in Sudan did not start a jihad to force everyone there to submit to islam, the people of other religions would have gone about thier business raising thier cattle.
  16. France and America

Does that mean that we should 'spread freedom and democracy around the world', and make the whole world love us even more than they already do? I think it's less about promoting the "Freedom and Democracy" that has propped up the Saudi Kings and Saddam Hussein, and more about spreading an ideology where you can't hang someone because they warship GOD the wrong way. I recognize the faults in our foreign relations, but we don't base our foreign policy on what our competitors compain about (China, Russia, France). I've watched as our policies have evolved from what's good for america to what's good for business (which has propped up the largest communist nation in the history of the world, a vision our forefathers would balk at). I think that policy migration has shown America to be more about money, and if you look at America thru the goggles of MTV, it appears as though that's what America has become. If our foreign policy was determined by us who don't have a business interest in it, but instead we solved conflicts based on what's reasonable (and in some cases, like sudan or afghanistan, military action WOULD be reasonable) then we would be displaying a fairer side of America. Right now people who CLAIM to be doing good for the world are actually causing us the most harm, like the Bill Gates Foundation who rather then giving the money away, is actaully INVESTING the money in overseas corporations that run Oil wells in Africa. In this peticular case, that oil well burns off the natural gas that comes from the well rather then bottling it because it's cheaper! These wells now create fires hundreds of feet high, and the villagers nearby call it the city of lights. This incredible burning wastes an amazing amount of natural resources, pollutes heavily, contributes to CO2 and has now caused all of the villagers to get respitory diseases and cancers for many many miles around it. If America knew what was good for us, we would FORCE them to cap those wells immediately, but since it's business as usuall it doesn't even make the news, and it's funded by a giant duche who claims to be helping people. You would think the African American community in america would be screaming about this, but Jesse Jackson's Rainbow Racism Crusade is funded by Bill Gates too. *Edit* Oh yeah, almost for got this one: it's looking like people who value life are going to boycott the chineese olympics, becase that government is a large investor of the oil companies that provide the sudaneese government the money to arm the malitias that are killing unarmed villagers based on race and religion. So while our government continues to subsidize all of these socialist public spending programs with chineese money, and businesses continue to bend to the will of that communist government, there are people who won't stand for it, and will speak out against them.
  17. France and America

I thought Ron Paul was OK in the first debate, I prefer strict constructionists but since the world has evolved and global politics can now hit you harder then local politics can (ask anyone who USED to work in textiles), it's important to have someone who is willing to grasp the world by the reins instead of letting them go. a flat fee & deductable plan provides no incentive to get healthy and stay healthy much like the current system, and is the driver behind the consistant rise in health care costs. People who work hard and stay healthy get absolutely no reward for doing so under teh current system or a flat rate system. And the high deductable and high premiums make it more afforable to not be a part of it at all. I agree with penalty for hospitals, and would increase the scope to private practices small single doctor clinics.
  18. France and America

33% is way too much IMO, and what sucks most about universal health care is that 5% of the patients use up 50% of the money. In New England a group of Insurance companies and Biotech companies came together to see how we could fix healthcare in our states. The numbers that were presented by Insurance companies were just staggering. I'm supporting Mitt Romney for prez, but i HATE his heath care plan in Taxachusetts (where i live). It's Mandatory participation (which is actually a TAX, even though it's privatized) and there is no drug coverage and a 1000$ deductable, so until YOU spend 1k on your health, they dont pay for a thing! also, it costs a fortune. It doesn't effect me (I have the same health plan that fat ted kennedy gets) from my employer but its not right to burden people with this when it's actually cheaper for them to just pay their own bills and NOT pay into this health care plan. It pretty much takes from those who work hard but don't work for a big corporation, and gives it to people who don't work, illegal aliens, and those 5% I mentioned earlier. I would much rather have it seperated this way: a tiered system where those who take care of themselves and have a history of health pay the least, the longer you stay healthy and are part of the plan, the more your costs in the plan go down. anyone who eats at mcDonalds and whose doctor says is at risk because of smoking, obesity or drug abuse in a seperate teir who pay the most, those who continue to live like this have thier premiums and deductables increased. those who are terminally ill, combat veterans, require rare orphan drugs to live, are in near-fetal accidents that require life support and other non-intentional severe problems are payed for by the public if they have no current coverage on the previous 2 teirs (conservative culture of life should have NO issue with this) There should be 3 private providers to choose from who have various programs to choose from. Noone may be on the boards or own direct stock in more then 1 (but mutual funds may). Every 2 years, 1 slot opens for bidding to replace one of the 3 private providers by other private companies. (6 year terms in essence). Anyone may switch providers if they choose, but no provider may force someone out of the plan, the provider agreed to provide care to EVERYONE based on a formula when they bid on the slot, and they must abide by it. The pricing for each person is the same across all plans. No special treatment for larger companies. the Formulas are to be filed publicly at the time of bidding and changes may only be made with congressional approval and signed by the president (to prevent collapse of a provider, or multiple providers). The 3 providers may negotiate what they will pay for services with hospitals, but must do so collectively (no more 50$ tongue dispensers) Doctors decide what tests should be run and will be payed for based on good medical practices, not providers, but the patient has an interest in keeping prices down and should make sure they want the cost to go against thier future premiums. Patients may dispute the costs payed by thier provider (if you see the doctors charged your health plan 500$ to sit in the waiting room for an hour, then saw you for 3 minutes and performed no actual work) because the patient has an interest in keeping thier costs down, so thier own premiums don't go up. This is not the case now, and it's quite disgusting what hospitals charge my insurance for things that they did not do, or overcharged for things they did do. This is the Crosis health care plan. feel free to implement it in your own state (or country)! *EDIT* Almost forgot, NO Electives are covered. No sex changes, no growth hormones (which are covered in the US for people who want to be 4-5 inches taller, at a cost of 250k per inch!), no plastic surgery that is not to recover from a tragic injury, like face reconstruction or prostetics.
  19. Bag 'Stealing' Rules?

Try using the search button, honestly I think I see one post per week asking the bagjumping rules... Outlaws has perhaps into the thousands of posts on how people feel about it.
  20. Harvesting

Making it any more beneficial to have really high harvesting skills may flood the market with even more, reducing value further.
  21. Bag 'Stealing' Rules?

No kidding! Although I wouldn't say that Mod's don't intervene. I had 3 accounts banned because i had 3 laptops, all playing at the same time, all on different maps doing different things, never trading with eachother (learned that lesson when i first started playing) and I mapwalked onto someones bag in SRM Mines, a mod banned all of my accounts for "Macroing" and i had to post and PM back and forth with 2 mods just to get one account back. apparenty walking onto the same place each time (the place you marked on the map) means you're macroing, and if you land on someones bag doing it, you run a bagjumping macro. I'll never mapwalk then leave the room to make a snack again! To this day noone can tell me what i was macroing, since after mapwalking I returned to find my self banned, meaning I never opened the bag, and i never started mining, because i was AFK. I mapwalked, landed on the bag, then banned.
  22. Rent-A-Ant

These sound cool. I have read all 3 pages of this thread so far, and was wondering (from learner) what the answers are to the following 3 questions: 1. is it legal to have ants sit on a bag? 2. what is the Trade command for? and how do you prevent muling if trade is enabled? 3. if #1 is legal, is there a command to make an ant drop a specified # of an item to refresh a bag? I think #1 and #3 are illegal, as is muling, it's really equivilent to cheating, but i found the list of commands available, and the questions associated with these uses quite interesting.
  23. Total War

I Find this post interesting. It made me wonder if more randomness was added to the damage done in an attack would make people more likely to PK eachother. If someone with 50/50 a/d had a chance to kill someone who was 60/60, even if it was a small chance, because the dice may roll in his favor enough, it may make people feel as the playing field was level enough to chance it. at this point, i would not try to take on anyone who had more a/d then me, or signifiganty more p/c then me, because its always suicide. But if you made the increase in a/d and p/c mean less, and left more of the damage to chance, it may piss some people off, but it would make fighting more dangerous for everyone and would reflect more of a david and goliath effect, 9 out of ten times the little guy would lose, but even someone with signifigantly lower levels would still have a chance to knock your head off. I would only make these changes with PK, not against monsters or animals, or even summons.
  24. I've finally been able to reproduce a fix for running EL on my Lenovo T60P laptop. I Run vista on it, and it has an ATI FIREGL 5200 Card with 256MB of ram on board and 3Gigs or ram on the mainboard with a core duo processor. I previously had aero running, but to improve the speed of some poser rendering i was doing, i turned all of the effects off and set it to windows standard theme. I Tried running EL in compatibility mode, and no dice, wouldnt run in anything other then 640x480 full screen with no effects, and horrible speed. I then downloaded ATI's new catalyst drivers (free download) which do not appear to be targeted at any one ati card, but DO install thier latest ICD Driver that makes openGL compatible with the new vista screen composting. After installing the catalyst driver (and a reboot) EL runs like never before, even faster and smoother then when i ran it on Windows XP with the same hardware. Alot of the documentation around catalyst names the Radeon cards by name, but nowhere does it say it supports FIREGL cards. If you are confident in experimenting with your video drivers and have a vista box running ATI hardware, give this a shot, it may work for you. NVidia is supposed to have a similar package like this as well, although i don't have the name handy. If this or other workarounds get vista running for you, please make a reply. thanks crosis

It's still profitable if you get the bones yourself, or you could sell the bones instead =)
