  1. I didn't encounter the darkness today in Idaloran but it was still present in Iscalrith storage, though the area in which I could see was wider. Before, in parts of Idaloran I had about 180 degrees of camera rotation in which I could see and in Iscalrith storage I had about 5 degrees; now, I have about 100 degrees in Iscalrith storage. Thank you everyone who is looking into this, I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

It isn't night time on test server yet. I only noticed the blackness in Idaloran during night. I'll check in a few hours when it's night there.

  2. Ok, please let me know about the blackness, as soon as you find out. if it's just a drivers issue, that's good, no more work for us.

    It's still black :D

And for some reason, I can't play on more than 1 client at a time anymore. The second lags out continuously. Thanks for the great driver update Intel :(

EDIT: Rebooting again seems to have fixed my second client lag problem...hopefully.

  3. [18:16:38] Video card: Intel 915G

    [18:16:38] Vendor ID: Intel

    [18:16:38] OpenGL Version: 1.4.0 - Build 4.14.10.3971

    [23:54:46] Video card: Intel 915GM

    [23:54:46] Vendor ID: Intel

    [23:54:46] OpenGL Version: 1.4.0 - Build 7.14.10.4764

    I see a pattern :(

Especially since my card is older, but has higher OpenGL version:

    [13:57:49] Video card: GeForce4 4200 Go/AGP/SSE2

    [13:57:49] Vendor ID: NVIDIA Corporation

    [13:57:49] OpenGL Version: 1.5.8 NVIDIA 96.31

I also don't have framebuffers, by the way and not experiencing the blackouts.

My intel chipset is 82801DB/L/M, which has ICH4 audio and the 915 has ICH6 HDA, so defenitely older.

So do I, however, it isn't specific to the 915 chipsets exclusively. Icy mentioned in the last thread that hers is an Intel 845GM, OpenGL Version: 1.3.0, Build 4.14.10.3889.(btw, the build numbers aren't exactly correct that the client is showing. Mine should show as 6.14.10.4764, and not 7.14.10.4764. The first number is for the OS it's for, 6 being XP and 7 being Vista. Probably doesn't matter anyways though.) But yeah, maybe the Intel onboard chipsets are causing the problem in some way.

Anyways, I just updated my driver to the same build as Kazoo has and I get the message now that I meet the minimum requirement. It isn't night, so I can't check again for the blackout, but I suspect it is still there since Kazoo and I have almost identical video.

EDIT: I just checked my knowledge list and I do show as having read the 3 engineering books that I previously had read. So I'm not seeing an issue like temospena did about the books.

  4. [18:15:42] Your graphic card/driver don't support the minimumrequirements for the next el release. Please upgrade your driver. If this don't help, you need a better graphic card.

    [18:16:38] Video card: Intel 915G

    [18:16:38] Vendor ID: Intel

    [18:16:38] OpenGL Version: 1.4.0 - Build 4.14.10.3971

I'll see if a newer driver is available. I've never upgraded a driver before so I'll cross my fingers I don't break something ;)

I still have blackouts in Idaloran. Didn't test anything else yet.

  5. Let's see.

    * Happens only at night

    * Happens only in certain places

    * Scene is being rendered, but not lit

    * Shadow settings are irrelevant (not that they should be used at all at night)

    * Setting is outside *or* inside (so it doesn't have to do with is_dungeon).

    * We're not even getting ambient light; we're getting *no* light. Only effects (both old style and new style), emissive surfaces, dimmed reflections, and screen decorations draw.

Hmm. Actually, wait a minute. Has there been a new release since my crash fix went in? There hasn't, has there? That right there could be the cause of this. If you had shadows on back when it was daytime, that problematic glEnableClientState(GL_COLOR_ARRAY) call would have been made. render_rain will disable that state, but if it hadn't rained since then, it still would be enabled.

With the state GL_COLOR_ARRAY enabled, but no glColorPointer set, it may be trying to read color data from an arbitrary point in memory and getting all black. As for why it only happens in certain places and at certain angles -- buffer overflows can be unpredictable and all.

Even if it's not that, I still suspect it's an issue with an array client state.

I did not have shadows selected.

  6. Update: I can't reproduce the blackout problem. Can any of you with the blackout compile from CVS? I could probably come up with some debugging statements

No, I can't compile CVS. And just to make sure, you did check those areas in Idaloran when it was night, correct? Everything is normal during the day for me, it only does that during the night time, like 4-5 (possibly a bit before and after that as well)

  7. Just went back to test server and yup, I get a blackout in Idaloran when mapwalking from 193,72 all the way to 269, 148. Another screenie for your viewing pleasure.

    RC 2 blackout Idaloran

I had tried previously to change some of my settings and nothing helped other than changing the direction my view was facing. I just now tried turning poor man off and turning back on some of the shadows etc. That didn't help either.

  8. I just checked Idaloran 269, 149. When rotating to certain angles (one being similar to yours facing the whole water) I get a brighter screen with more light rather than darker. But this is at 3:37, so maybe it gets lighter on night and darker on day?

But I have had this effect on other places to where it can go from dark to light in an instant so are you sure this is coord dependant? Tried to find any other spot with similar effect?

As I said, "Now, with that said, it was night time when I had the issue of the screen mostly going black."

When I checked this with the previous RC I walked around Idaloran and large portions of it had this blackout effect depending on the direction you were facing. Near all the tele portals and some exits. It wasn't on just one specific coord, but huge areas that i could wander around in in the dark. I asked Sundulana to come to a spot I was sitting at to make sure it wasn't just my pc or w/e. She remarked that it was very dark before she even got to the location I asked her to come to. So it wasn't just a couple specific sets of coordinates, but large areas.

As for trying to find any other spots...As Icy stated, Iscalrith storage was black as well, basically all of it(I had seen and mentioned about that on my post for the previous RC as well). Sundulana had told me that the spot reported previously in VOTD sort of near Molgor was also black and that a portion of KF near the entrance to VOTD as well.

  9. I saw CelticLady posted about the black screens for Idaloran and Iscalrith storage. I have the same problem all through Iscalrith storage. I had problems with EVTR and Willowvine before the new client but not anymore. I still have a problem with the IotF igloo to Iscalrith as well. I have screenies but they are exactly the same as CelticLady's. I did notice that we both use Intel Onboard Video. Tirun has an actual video card and does not have this problem. I am posting a screenie for the Onboard Video though by way of comparison. No seems to have responded to CelticLady's post on the other thread and this is happening with the new client so I thought it needed a bump.

I just went and checked two of the locations in Idaloran that I was seeing black at and at the moment neither are showing black. I tried both the last RC and this one (RC 2). Now, with that said, it was night time when I had the issue of the screen mostly going black. So I will check again in a couple hours and see if it still happens.

As for playing around with the settings. I have the following settings on, everything else is off.

Details: Poor Man, Toggle Special Effects

Advanced Video: Compiled Vertex Array, Vertex Buffer Objects

Eye Candy: Enable Eye Candy, Use Fancy Smoke

    Max eye candy framerate: 45

    Min eye candy framerate: 20

    Light columns: 15

Entropy, when I noticed these blackout spots, it only happens when you are facing certain directions. Once you rotate your view far enough the screen goes normal again. Here are two screen shots that I had posted on the last thread, look at the direction my view is facing. I am standing on the same spot.

    Direction 1

    Direction 2

Sundulana came to one of the spots I was on and verified that her screen went black too. I'm not sure if she has integrated Intel GPU as well or not.

Icy, when Tirun checked the locations to see if it was black, was it night or day?

Anyways, I will check again after it is night on test server and edit this with my findings.

  10. I crashed last night while walking in Lothalith Fortress (AA). I had just turned eye candy off because the room I was in had several fires and lots of colors etc. lowering my FPS. It was the room with the red carpet runner all the way through it. I stopped walking, turned off eye candy, closed the options window and clicked to walk. My char took about 2 steps and the client crashed. Could not reproduce after restarting the client.

  11. Yes, it is imperative that you use NEW_E3D_FORMAT, we are switching to the new format now.

CelticLady, and others who have severe FPS drops due to the special effects: Can you try to play with the min/max fps settings for the particles, in the ingame configuration menu? Try to find some compromise between quality and speed, then post the results.

I played around with the min and max eye candy fps and it didn't seem to help at all. To me, it doesn't look like it's making the effects any less detailed. I took a screenie and hopefully you/someone can tell me if that is how it looks at full or minimum detail. It looks full to me, but as I'm not used to seeing it, I'm not sure. Anyways, this is the fire in North Redmoon closest to where you enter from the portals room.

    Clicky

I know it was already mentioned on another thread that there was a spot in VOTD near Molgor where the screen would go black. Well, it's still like that and apparently there is a section of KF from the entrance at VOTD that is the same, Sundulana checked there and told me about those spots. She helped me check a part of Idaloran to make sure it wasn't just my client showing it black. Unfortunately, huge portions of Idaloran are like that. If you are facing certain directions then it's all black, but if you rotate your view enough then it clears up. I also ran into a spot in Iscalrith storage when I entered and had to click blindly until I could get my char to move and rotate my view enough so I could see where to go. Here are a few screenies to show some of the locations this is happening at.

    Idaloran 1

    Idaloran 2

    Idaloran 3

    Idaloran 4

    Iscalrith Storage

Didn't get to fighting yet other than a few of the new smaller creature. Maybe tomorrow after work I can try the cycs again.

EDIT: Wanted to add that in the screenshots above, coords are on them.

System specs for low FPS issue.

Windows XP Media Center Edition SP2

    Intel Pentium 4 HT 3.0Ghz

2 Gig Dual Channel DDR 400 RAM

    Integrated Intel 915G 128mb video

  12. By default 'Toggle special effects' is off. Turn it on and it should work.

    ctrl-o => tab 'Details'

    Are you sure?

That worked for celticlady. I see in el.ini that came with the exe, that the default is on. Same spells she had problems with, though. :D

Not exactly correct....I couldn't see any spell effects at all. Deadhead had been casting remote heal on me and I couldn't see that either. I don't know if Toggle special effects was on or off when I first logged in. I immediately went into the options and started changing things to match how I normally run the client to give a better comparison and I may have accidentally turned it off when quickly clicking through the tabs. But making sure that was selected on made me able to see all spells that we tested. Remote heal, restore, shield, mana drain and harm.

I still have some major FPS drops from remote heal. Deadhead had worse results than me with that particular spell. I do have slightly better performance than with the last client test release. This may be due to the fact that my motherboard is back in dual channel and I now have 2gigs of RAM. ie. remote heal used to drop me from 35 down to 3 FPS, now I get 7 FPS. Deadhead was down to 3 FPS for remote heal. Probably just a problem with our video cards being older or something(they are different cards). RallosZek didn't have a drop like that.

The fountain in WSC gave me much better FPS than before, I'm upto 20 now. Whether that is due to me adding more RAM and getting it back in dual channel I'm not sure. Maybe something was changed recently in that area? The smoke in the PL manu school is much better. Doesn't fill the room and my FPS only goes down to 29 now, thanks :)

I'll test more later and probably try some fighting as I was crashing previously when fighting.

  13. I used to have Norton Internet Security 2005 and followed the instructions in the initial post to get it to stop giving me the false positive and getting disconnected. Well, when switching to my new PC I had to get the 2007 version. And even if you add the IP to the firewall and make a rule to always allow communication with the game server I still get the false positive and get disconnected. I can immediately reconnect, but I am hoping someone knows how to get it to stop giving the false positive and disconnecting all together.

Thier tech support people are about as dumb as rocks, so yes, I've already talked to them 3 times with no progress. I'm about to uninstall this mess and get something else, but since I already paid for it if I can get it to work I would appreciate any help anyone can give me.

    Thanks

    ~CL

EDIT: The person I talked to this time told me to turn off the detection for this signature entirely to resolve the issue...If anyone else has found a way to resolve it without having to do that please let me know.

  14. Re, old client vs. new: Did you follow my proscribed framerate testing procedure? Sitting in one place, test with the new client, logout, test with the old client, logout, test with the new client again? If not, please do so, even if it means reinstallation. Data not gathered in controlled circumstances isn't very valuable.

I can't. I don't have a copy of the old test version. I am going based off of the notes I had taken while checking locations. I copied the new test version over the old one and don't have a copy of the old .zip. I know I am in roughly the same location as I was with the old version. I'll just wait for the next test version and for my additional RAM strip to get here and go from there.

  15.

eck...you are absolutely correct. The 1gig strip I added was single channel and the 512mb I already had (still have installed) is dual. bleh....sooo is that my problem then?

Ok, performance problem is a partial operators error :) I removed the single 1 gig strip I added a few days ago and ran this test version again. I checked the same spots I was having lower than previous test version FPS and they are still the same. ie. previous test version yielded higher FPS in those locations. However, I found one spell that I have a better FPS when I removed the addition RAM, Remote Heal. With the strip in I get 3 FPS for that spell, with it removed I am at 9. For Teleport to Range, Poison and when someone teleports to portal or grues my FPS goto 9 either with or without the additional RAM.

So, that does at least play some kind of a factor in my performance issue, just not for the bulk of it. I will order another 1 gig strip to get my m/b back to dual channel. It'll take a few days for me to get it though.

I did a very limited test on fighting cycs and did not have any crashes as I did on the previous test version. I'll try to test that further later today.

  16.

CelticLady: Ok, so you changed some hardware. Yes, changing ram can slow you down if not done properly; for example, you could have gone from dual channel to single. Let's start with a preliminary test. Go to a place that tends to slow you down a lot. Sit down, watch your framerate for a while, and get a good average. Then log out, switch to the other client, log in, and do the same. Then go back to the first, and do the same once more. Let me know what you find.

Hmm, I can't exactly do that. I copied the new test version over the old one so I'm just going by the numbers I had noted before compared to what they are now.

eck...you are absolutely correct. The 1gig strip I added was single channel and the 512mb I already had (still have installed) is dual. bleh....sooo is that my problem then?

  17. CelticLady: I just compared today's CVS with one from four days ago, from the exact same positions with the exact same options, sitting in the C2 portals room. I get the exact same performance either way. Theories as to why?

I have no clue why it might be different. As I stated, the only difference in my system is that I added a gig of RAM. Everything else on my system is running great (other than my Norton Internet Security but that's a whole other thing and not relevant). I am not a programer in any way shape or form and thus have no idea what may be causing this. Just trying to help test :)

Perhaps I'll try and download this version again and try it fresh to see if the problem persists. Other than that I don't know how to help isolate what the problem is. If there is something else I can do or some other information that a mostly computer illiterate person can give you then just let me know what I can do.

  18. Didn't get to cycs yet to test if I crash again on them, but did get a chance to check over some things that I had checked with the previous test version. For some reason any and all effects lower my FPS more with this test version then with the last one. Comparison results are as follows:

C2 portals room 9-17 FPS 9 was near the fountain with the 4 portals visible. (was 16-22. 16 near the fountain)

    C1 portals room 7-18 FPS (was 14-17)

WSC fountain near Mira 12 FPS (was 14)

Mother Nature getting pissed at me 16 FPS (was about 29)

teleport to range spell 9-13 FPS (was ~29)

If I turn off Eye Candy my FPS goes back to 30-35 for all of the above effects. Also note, there is no visual effect for the restore spell with Eye Candy turned on.

Nothing has changed in my game settings and the only thing different on my pc is that I added a gig of RAM. My game settings are as follows:

    Poorman on

    FPS limited to 35

    Eye Candy on

    Max Eye Candy Framerate 25

    Min Eye Candy Framerate 16

    3D Alpha Blending on

    Compiled Vertex Aray on

    Vertex Buffer Objects on

    Video Mode 1152x864x32

    Running on:

Windows XP SP2 Media Center Edition

    Intel Pentium 4 HT 3.0Ghz

    Intel 915G (Integrated) 128mb

    1.49GB DDR RAM

  19. No crashes for me yet on this one, but a major FPS drop in the PL manu school. Huge amounts of smoke in there. Without eye candy on I have 35 FPS (that's what I have it limited to) with it on, I have 6 FPS. Here is a screenie of how the smoke looks to me.

    Click 'n stuff

I might try some cycs later. I was crashing on them before so if it happens again I'll edit this.

  20. Now I've just had some problems with crashes while fighting cyclops. Both times in Egratia near the dock. Both times i was double teamed by them. I was not casting any spells and did not see any effects on screen when it happened. I just got the "this program has encountered a problem and needs to shut down" message. I'm back on the regular client and I'll go back and try again on this one to compair. I'll edit this and let ya know if I crash or not.

Oh, I was running the eye candy client all day today while harvesting/mixing with no crashes 8hrs+ These two crashes happened within 10 minutes of eachother.

EDIT: Just got done fighting some cycs with the regular client. Was double teamed a couple times. Didn't crash at all.

EDIT 2: Had a crash today in DP Crystal Caverns. Just got to the silver ore and clicked the button to sit down. Got the same message "This program has encountered a problem and needs to shut down". One other person already sitting at the ore. No effects.

  21. First of all, I love these effects :lipssealed: I did notice two spots so far where I had significantly lower FPS though. In WSC where the fountain is near Mira my fps went from around 35 down to 14 when I was near the fountain. Vakana was also visible and holding a glowie. There were no other effects visible on my screen when my FPS dropped and I checked by doing a full 360 around my char with the camera angle. With the regular client my FPS was 34.

In the C2 portals room my FPS ranged from 16-22 depending on where I was. Near the little fountain with 4 portals in view was when I had 16. With the regular client I range 31-33.

Another thing I noticed was that while summoning if I did multiple summons in a row, or if a few of my summons died in succession (or a mixture) then my FPS would drop as low as 14. Regular client has 30-33.

When any single effect happens (ie. restore, teleport nexus, radon pouch etc) my FPS will go from 36 to 29 and will go lower if another spell/event happens soon after.

I have on the poorman setting and limit my FPS to 35. In the eyecandy client my FPS will goto 36 though.

    Running the client on:

Windows XP SP2 Media Center Edition

    Intel Pentium 4 HT 3Ghz

    Intel 915G 128mb (integrated)

    512mb DDR 3200

**EDIT: C1 portals room FPS of 14-17

  22. Speakign of it, anyone has an account with them? Any problmes?

It seems that they are pretty legit, but reading soem reviews, there are mixed oppinions. Some say they use it for years without problems, others complain about their strict verification procedures.

    Do you know better alternatives?

I used to use them for my online auctions. Not many International buyers chose to use that as a payment option, but a few did. I didn't find it hard to sign up for an account. It's been a couple years since I have used them, but I'd say give it a try. More payment options does bring in more buyers, at least in the auction venue.

  23. I tried to buy some of those EFE's too, but was too slow in my PM :D

Anyways, I think it would be a bad idea to limit the amount of specific items we could have in sto for reasons mentioned by others and because some days are busy days and I can easily use up 20-30 EFE's. Chances are I am not the only one that has good days where you mix alot. I keep a stock of around 40+ EFE's for such days. Not everyone that has large amounts of something is just hoarding them. True, there are sometimes weeks where I won't use more than 10 EFE's, but I am not just stockpiling them so they can sit there and look pretty in storage. Even if I were then that is my choice to hold them and decide what to do with them later, in my opinion.

imho when ea. EFE will be less in game ppl are only be able to lvl manu skill with things like leather helms wich is totally nuts as it has nothing to do with getting a better skill only with making useless items a lot.

I must qualify for every nut house there is then. I certainly don't level manu with items needing EFE's to produce.

    Back on topic:

I would prefer not to be listed on a 'Top Richest Players' list. I get enough beggars being on the Top Manu list, and I don't need anymore. Any other lists I probably wouldn't care being on since I enjoy competition.
